Android : Need App For News / Text Notification

I was wondering if there are any, and if so, which would be the "best" app for the following tasks: One that gives you any notification/indication when you receive a text message (the reason I don't like the built in notification is that it shows the text message you received and I don't like that (picky, I know) and as far as I'm aware, I can't just turn that off while leaving the notification) I doubt there is one for this but anyway.. the news, except you can downloads/sync it with your phone when you have internet access and still be able to read whatever you have downloaded when you don't have a connection.

When i first fired up the wildfire it had the news widget on the homescreen ready to go on BBC news. I liked the fact it automatically refreshed the news every so often. Now it has stopped working via the widget. I have tried removing and reinstalling the news widget but the widget just hangs on the message 'loading news'. I can still refresh the news headlines by going into the app but it seems an unnecessary hassle when it used to do this automatically. Why and how to fix this? The phone settings all lok okay.

Has anybody figured out how to "delete all" news articles in the sense 2.2 news widget? The articles just keep piling up and the only way I can find to delete them is one at a time, which is very time consuming.

Sometimes when I receive messages it makes the notification sound and will show message in notification bar but the text of the message will not appear in the text thread. Used to happen every once in a while, now doing it multiple times a day. I use Handcent but I doubt that is the problem because the messages dont show up in the regular messaging either. Just want to see if i am alone with this problem.

I recently purchased an LG Eve running on 1.5 and have loved it so far. yesterday though, i received a text message just like any other time but when i tried to delete it, it would not remove the notification from the status bar. no matter what i do it is still there, even when i go to my messaging app and it says it is not there. it is really starting to bug me, since it is just always saying i have a new text message now. any ideas as to how i can get rid of it?

Since performing the upgrade to 2.1, my sent text messages are now giving me an alert tone. When I go into message settings, I can scroll down and see the option to uncheck "Pay Notification Sound" under Sent Messages, but it's grayed out.

So I'm using my Samsung Vibrant and I downloaded Handcent and every time I get an SMS and check it, I noticed that I still have a notification saying i have an unread text, even though i have clearly read the text. Is anyone else getting the same problem as well? I tested it on another Vibrant and same problem.

Is there any settings/flags to expand the summary text of a notification to two lines instead of 1? The text I am trying to put is too long and it goes over the visible area? Will try something like (text+"/n"+restOfText) tomorrow but I don't think it's going to work...

I have been trying to find a fix for problem i have. When ever i am texting someone and i do not exit out of the conversation before they text me back the phone vibrates and wake the phone up and im in the conversation. I reply and the little envelope is still in the reminder bar. It wont go away unless i bring the reminder bar down and click clear.

as an end user, can I surpress sms alerts in the notification bar on android 2.1 (alert - but not show the first line of text)? Is there a phone setting? Or an app out there that allows this choice?

So I'm running fresh evo .5.3 (Or whatever that build was, old, I know), and near the middle of the day I realized my phone was playing my notification sound (and led would blink once) and then my phone would suddenly reboot. The only changes I had made were installing a couple random apps, which I've uninstalled since then. Also, installed handcent and I get the same result. Other notifications work fun, but any text ones freeze and instantly reboot my phone. I'll probably end up doing a full (everything I need is in the cloud, don't mind reinstalling apps) wipe and flash of fresh 3.2.

I've noticed today at work then with my phone on vibrate or with the sound off, I do not get any notification of incoming text messages. Same thing with incoming email on my gmail account.. I could have sworn that the phone would vibrate when I got a text the first couple of days I had it. But now I get no vibrating notification at all.

With Text Messages (SMS) -
Is there a way to either:
a) set the native text appl so that there is no content preview in the notification bar, or
b) with Handcent still have the special puzzle piece show up on your lock screen when you have a new text message?
I really liked how that puzzle piece showed up but now it is gone and I suspect it is ever since I installed Handcent and I don't know how to get it back.
Follow up question -- if I go back to the native text app, is there a way to increase the font size of incoming and outgoing messages? I don't want to have to put my reading glasses on everytime I get a text.

I read about using fixunreadcount to fix this problem but I can't figure how to run that off of my phone. My sync only syncs in mail and such and I can't actually get into my phone's files, and I don't know how to find the program when I load it onto the SD card through mounting it.

I'm a huge txting kinda gal. And REALLY miss the little box notifying me that my friends have received, or read the text. Is there a setting for the Sense Basic txting to show that? I couldn't seem to find one? Or does anyone know a good app (BESIDES ChompSMS) that would do this?

I have a problem with my evo. At times I do not get a notification sound when I receive a text message. Not until I check my phone is when I notice this since I gotten the text 2 hours prior. Its happened a couple of times already and recently just happened. I'm wondering if any of my apps such as launcher pro or others are causing this. I have my profile sounds to normal so I'm sure it should give me a ring.
