as an end user, can I surpress sms alerts in the notification bar on android 2.1 (alert - but not show the first line of text)? Is there a phone setting? Or an app out there that allows this choice?

I do have a few questions about the phone. i was wondering if there is a way to make text messages alerts show up on my screen. i have an app that shows if i have one unread but it is pretty small. every other phone i've had had a pretty big notification for texts. also is there a way to have the screen light up when you get a text? there is a sound that plays when i get a text, but the screen does not light up. not sure if im just missing something, but is there a way to set different tones for different notification? right now the same thing plays when i plug my phone in, that plays when i get a text. none of these are huge issues, but i am just curious if there is a way to make some changes on the phone. im sure ill figure it out or just get used to it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I both have HTC Hero's (Sprint) and recently have been having problems sending and receiving pictures in our text (from each other as well as other people) If I send a picture to her, her phone will vibrate and the notification light will blink, but nothing will show up.
Now if I send a second picture the first one will show up on her phone, and if I send a third, the second one shows up and on and on. It happens the same way if she tries to send me a picture. The phones worked fine when we bought them in December. This problem has just started in the last month.
I use NotificationManager to write a Notification. I want now a multiple-line text for my notification. Is it possible?

Used to happen every once in a while, now doing it multiple times a day. I use Handcent but I doubt that is the problem because the messages dont show up in the regular messaging either. It doesn't matter what I have open it will just stop working. The system is still running, calendar alerts will pop up, and the time will still advance, but I can't do anything with the phone and have to pull the battery and force a reboot to get the screen to respond. I initially thought maybe it was an app, but this has happened with nothing running except the default apps.

What I'd like to be able to do is in each of the groups add a different type of child to the end. I have tried adding 1 to the getChildrenCount() number and then testing isLastChild in the getChildView() method, but that doesn't seem to work.
If a group has three children what I have working looks like this:

But I'd really like something like this:

The idea being that the AlternateChild could be a link to more info about the group.

I installed the Advanced Task Killer because there wasn't a logout function for the Yahoo Mail App and the alerts were going like crazy; however, I needed the alerts for my work email due to oncall. However, now I'm not getting any sound alerts or vibrate, etc for my new email messages and this is very important.
Does anyone know how I can enable the alerts and get them working again. I have uninstalled the Advanced Task Killer and powered off the phone, but the email alert notifications unfortunately are still not working.

I just got my droid. Switching over from a storm and with the storm i could set contact alerts for text messages and separate ringtones for when they call with the droid i have found there is only one text message alert and you cannot set individual alerts for text messages.

I have been able to do this with just about every other type of phone I've had in the past; I can't understand why these more expensive, more technologically advanced phones dump them all into one category ("Set as notification tone"). Am I missing something here? Is there an app I need or a setting on the phone I'm not seeing?
Just to be clear, I care less about whether I can use customized ringtones for these alerts than just being able to distinguish between when I'm getting a text or an email. And if it helps to know, I have a Samsung Moment and my husband has a HTC Hero, and we are both having this problem.
This may be common knowledge, but whenever I get a notification alert (for a new email, text, etc.), I don't get another audible alert until I have checked the notification bar. What's up with that?
Maybe the first alert was an email that I don't care about, so I ignore the alert. But then if a text came in after that that I really wanted to know about, I wouldn't know about it until I actually checked the notification bar.
When the phone is "sleeping" and a message comes through, I hear the notification. I don't see the flashing light (even though I have that turned on for everything) and the screen does not come on.

I know it's a standing issue with the androids not receiving email notifications from the regular email app but is there an APP that will just notify me of email? Doesn't have to view it or anything just alert me as I am satisfied with the original email app. I've tried K-9 and it closes unexpectedly all the time and I find it unreliable with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S). I've also tried Maildroid which I wasn't too impressed with.

It would be awesome to hear when the battery is charged rather than have to keep checking visually at various intervals. I can't keep my hands off of the phone so I can get a little impatient during the charging process sometimes, I'd love to be able to "set it and forget it" until I hear the alert. Whenever I get a text message Handcent plays a song from my MP3's. Even though I have set it to use a simple notification. The song plays all the way through too, the only way I can silence it is to turn off my ringer volume. But then I have no ringer.

I think it's due to NAND not being unlocked? I have root access. tried creating a /media/audio/notifications folder in internal memory and I could move the file to that folder, but neither rings extended nor ringdroid will see it in that location. Is there someway that this is possible, or do we have to wait for NAND unlock? Surely this is an issue that lots of other people have had.
