I have a custom ring tone for my notification sound and when i get a text message i want to be able to stop it from playing when i pick up the phone or go to the text?

I have handcent on my phone and whenever I get a text, the handcent and stock icons show up in the taskbar. How do I stop the default notification from showing up and just have the handcent one?

Also is anybody else having problems with landscape mode? When i first got the phone it would go into landscape mode without the keyboard, but now it wont. I was wondering is the next software update going to fix it and if when?
I have already done a factory reset once before because the phones ringer stopped working. The "FVE" said it was something I downloaded from the market and basically made me reset. It really is not a big deal to do a reset since all the contacts can get synced to your google account. I just don't want to have to keep doing this fix.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my HTC desire, when I'm choosing a notification sound I no longer have the choice of just having it silent while I can still have the phone ringer on. I was able to do this with my old Droid back in the US and just wondering if anyone knew a way setup their Desire this way. Just I'm at work all day and still want to be able to hear calls but don't want a ping everytime I get an email or a text msg. Really appreciate any help people can give here.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my ringer and notifications become disabled. Volume all the way up and not sounds from the ringer or email or system items. I can try and pick another sound but it never plays. Also the media is fine, music and videos all play fine. Only way I have found to get it back is to reboot the phone. Not sure if a program is causing it, but it is driving me up the wall and only happens every so often and it is not from a program I am running cause it is very random, and no one program causes it.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI'm really frustrated with this. If I adjust the ringer volume with the volume rockers on the side of the phone, it only applies to phone calls. Notification volume requires going into settings and adjusting by itself. Is there an app that forces all volumes to sync with the ringer volume?

I get way too much email to have it play a sound every time one comes in, but I do still want to be able to see at a glance when I have new messages I've figured out how to change the ringtone, but there's no option to use no ringtone at all. When I turn the ringer volume down using the side buttons on my phone it only turns the ringer down, nothing else. When I lower the volume with the volume rocker switch, it only lowers the ring volume. Is there a way to set a global volume so that changing the volume changes ALL volumes together?

Is there no way to silence a ringer set for text message notifications? I don't think trimming mp3s is a good solution, and it appears this has been a problem for a while now looking through other phone threads. This seems like a pretty big oversight in functionality.

I have noticed that when I text *3282# to check my data useage, the notification ringer gets switched to low and I have to go in to settings to change it back. Anyone else have this same issue?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to change the ringer mode of the phone to RINGER_MODE_SILENT when a call is incoming by using the following lines of code.

While the phone stops ringing it continue to vibrate although the documentation of RINGER_MODE_SILENT says it should also stop vibrating.
I'm using the SDK 1.6
UPDATE:
As I didn't find a solution yet, I tried to deactivate the vibration settings manually.
am.setVibrateSetting(AudioManager.VIBRATE_TYPE_RINGER, AudioManager.VIBRATE_SETTING_OFF );
But this also doesn't prevent the phone form vibrating when a call is incoming.
UPDATE 2:
Today I tried to solve the problem by canceling the vibration via a Vibration object.
Vibrator vib = (Vibrator) getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE);
vib.cancel();
Again, without success. Now I'm running out of ideas and asking myself if it is possible to stop the vibration at all.
UPDATE 3:
I've discovered another interesting fact when I've reread the documentation of the Vibrator class. The documentation says:
"If your process exits, any vibration
you started with will stop."
Is there anyway to change the ringer for text messages without rooting? I want to side load with my Mac. Anyone know how? I tried side load wonder machine for Linux and Mac but when I open it, it just opens a window of a bunch of text.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my old flip phone when i got a call or text message with ringer on i could just hit the volume rocker and it shuts it up when i don't wanna take the call or message. On the moment i don't have that option. I have to hit end button, then menu, and then slide the notification bar down to shut it up. This be kind of annoying, especially when I'm in a meeting and forget to silence my phone before hand. There's a lot of times when i can't answer my phone and would love to reach in my pocket and hit volume button once to shut it up. So i guess what I'm asking is if there is a setting for this that i'm missing, or a different button that does the same.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that when turning down the volume of the ringer with the volume rocker it doesn't automatically turn down the notification volume as well. Is there a way to set the volume rocker to adjust both notification and ringer volume to the same level? You can test this by going under Settings/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume...and try adjusting the volume with the rocker and it only adjust the Ringer Volume.

However, when I receive a notification while I'm doing something else, or heck even if I receive it while just looking at my phone, I want to be able to hit a button and make the noise stop! I realize I have an email, text, whatever, so now I want the .mp3/sound to stop and not continue to play the duration of the clip!
