I have a rooted mytouch 4g slide phone that seems to work fine but when I try to use certain apps that require root (for example "extended power menu") it doesn't work. here is a quick video : [URL]

It would be NICE to be able to put them in folders, but I haven't found a good app that does that yet. I saw a couple of other threads on this topic, but some of the apps that were listed there are no longer available on the app market.

I was just wondering how many people would consider rooting a requirement when selecting which Android phone to purchase. I am not saying the G2 may never be able to obtain permanent root btw, just got me wondering.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to take screenshots on my android phone. I'm an app developer and have a pretty good understanding of the regular API, and I know this steps out of the "regular" thing quite a bit. I would have root access. I've seen a few apps that do this. I'm just wondering how one goes about doing it. Anybody know the general direction I should be looking in?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie to the android phones. I got the samsung vibrant for tmobile last month. I downloaded an app from the market which is one click lag fix(RyanZA's) and accidentally tapped a button which says: root your phone it took few seconds and said that my phone is rooted. Is there anything that I can do to know if my phone is really booted or not?
I downloaded the titanium back as what was said in there and upon opening it an Error message comes up: "sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will not work! please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes busybox and try again". Does that mean my phone is not rooted?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat's the reason that a phone needs to be rooted in order to take screenshots? I'm almost in disbelief that something as simple as a screenshot app isn't available (or built-in!) for an unrooted phone. It just seems like such a normal thing to do.Is it possible that in the future an unrooted phone can have an app to do this, or is there something about Android itself that doesn't allow it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm about to receive a replacement DInc in the next day or two and wondered the best way to back it up. I'd use Titanium Backup in an instant due to it's great reviews but it required root and I don't want to root the phone that I'm sending back. Ideally, I'd like an app that can be used with a OEM or rooted phone. What are your favorites? Suggestions?
PS I already have AppBrain to help with that part.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I rooted both mine and my wife's phone to Ivan's 1.0 (2.1 with OC). Her Market works totally fine. It's fast and loads everything and all tabs are there. Mine was sort of working at first, now it's completely come to a halt. The "top paid" tab is missing (when does finally load), most of the time it just gets stuck on "loading". I've tried clearing cache, doing a factory reset, reflashing the ROM, using the market fix (that puts the "top paid" tab back, but doesn't fix the slowless). It's just seriously broken.
Again, I've flashed the exact same ROM on mine and my wife's Eris, and hers works totally fine. I've searched for this issue on google and it seems this is a common problem, but no one has found a solution that works for me. I've tried them all, and none of them work. If I would have known rooting was going to break something so basic I possibly wouldn't have done it.
For those of you that want to take screen shots and are not rooted, not as simple as that but can be done if you want to try it. FYI thanks goes to Chewedpup for researching and finding this info:

Taking screenshots on an Android-based phone by Christina Warren
Even before playing with the new Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, I knew that I would need to be able to take screenshots of the phone itself. Using a digital camera to capture screens externally just wasn't going to cut it. Because the Android platform is open (and now, open source), I really didn't expect this to be a problem. If anything, I thought there would be a way to take screenshots directly from the device like you can with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Alas, I discovered this is not the case. After scouring Google trying to find answers, I asked Engadget's Editor-in-Chief Josh Topolsky what they used for the screenshots in their review, and he was nice enough to fill me in on the details.
Warning: right now, taking screenshots from an Android device requires installing the SDK. That doesn't make it as simple as pressing a button, but it's not the end of the world. If you've got a few minutes, and a quick connection with which to download the SDK, we'll show you how to take delicious Android screenshots of your own.
Step 1: Enable USB Debugging
On your Android phone (in this case, the G1), go to Settings, then Applications, and then Development. Check the checkbox for "USB debugging."
Step 2: Download the Android SDK
Download the SDK for your platform here. Google also has some great installation documentation if you get lost. You will need to make sure you have a current copy of the JDK. To use the SDK, you also need to download an IDE like Eclipse. After installing Eclipse, you can install the Eclipse plugin to connect Android and the IDE together, or just do a lot of stuff via the command line. Go ahead and plugin your Android handset into a USB port on your computer, if it is not plugged in already.
Step 3: Run DDMS
After configuring Eclipse or whatever IDE you use to work with Android, you need to open up the DDMS application from within the "tools" folder in the Android SDK's main folder. After DDMS launches, select your handset from the menu on the left (it should be the only device listed). You might see an error message, but the debug tool should be loaded. Then, click CTRL-S on your keyboard. This will bring up the "Device Screen Capture" interface. From here, a static image is captured from what is appearing on your handset. You can save the image (nicely defaulted as PNG) and then refresh to your heart's content to grab updated or different screenshots from your phone.
That's it! There is a caveat: Because your device has to be plugged into USB to be accessed by the SDK, the SD card cannot be used for taking photographs, playing music or downloading music from the Amazon.com MP3 store. You can take pictures of some of those screens but to actually download anything, take movies, or take a photo, you cannot have your device plugged into the computer and accessed by the SDK. Again, this is hardly as simple the iPhone's screenshot interface, but it is still very doable.
I rooted my Eris and I am running KaosFroyo v37. I downloaded Wireless Tether, and its not working. Its broadcasting that it made an available wireless access point, but when I try to connect to it nothing happens. My computer wont link up to it. I know my WiFi card works because I have a working wireless access point where I live that I use every day with no issues. Its like my laptop sees the network, but wont associate with it. I tried using barnacle and it did the exact same thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI believe it's called boot looping? It originally happened after I rooted my phone (original 1.5 software) following these directions: How To: Root the Samsung Behold 2 | The Unlockr. After that, I deleted DinerDash2, Midnight Bowling, Where's Waldo, IM, Talk, Amazon MP3, MyFaves, Telenav, HotSpot, Audio Postcard, Postcard.apk. When I tried to reboot my phone, I was stuck on the Samsung screen. I finally got the screen to go away, but a message repeatedly popped up saying the TwLauncher closed unexpectedly. Then I tried using ODIN and installing BH_Man's factory v1.6
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/63612-port-behold-ii-factory-1-6-a.html.
I used the adb commands to delete the bloatware again. Restarted the phone and got the same problem. (Except I was stuck on the android screen.) I tried to install the factory v1.6 again, then immediately did a factory restore and then rebooted my screen once it loaded. Everything seemed okay. I uninstalled the stock games and rebooted again. It seemed to be working. When I uninstalled more apps (including CubeLauncher) and restarted the phone. What do I do? Did I uninstall something I am not supposed to? I think I might try installing the 1.6 No Twiz Kernel. I am sick of these "TwLauncher closed unexpectedly" messages.
How do you do the chrome to phone thing where google chrome sends stuff to your phone? I have a rooted 2.2 droid. I have chrome, and the app on my phone but idk how to do it from my computer

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted a 2.2 stock phone, using the XDA method (clockwork). Everything seems to work fine, except for two things: BIG THING: Whenever I try to use the GPS function on my phone the phone just shuts off and restarts. (this is when I use the GPS satellites function. NOT when I use the "use wireless networks" setting under the Location sub-section of settings) When I turn on GPS and try to get "my location" in google maps. It restarts. When I use Yelp it turns off.
SMALL thing: The wifi tether is decent but it often stops working (I used the google one). I.e. The computer that's connected to the wireless network either gets disconnected, or it thinks it's disconnected but the internet just doesn't work. At this point, I just simply shut the tether on and off. But it's slightly inconvenient. Is this an issue other people are having?

I am currently on rooted T-Mobile's ERE27. This morning I got OTA upgrade, however, when I tried to install it I got the "verification failed" message. After I restarted the phone, I looked at the SD card and found no Update.zip of any kind.
Several questions:
1) Should I wait for an OTA? Will an OTA update work on rooted Nexus?
2) If I have to do it manually, can someone please explain the steps I should take or link me to a guide that fits my state?
3) Will an upgrade, manual or OTA, wipe the phone?
