View 14 RepliesI'm about to receive a replacement DInc in the next day or two and wondered the best way to back it up. I'd use Titanium Backup in an instant due to it's great reviews but it required root and I don't want to root the phone that I'm sending back. Ideally, I'd like an app that can be used with a OEM or rooted phone. What are your favorites? Suggestions?
PS I already have AppBrain to help with that part.
What is the best way to backup a non-rooted phone? I've searched for threads etc, but it seems that different products only backup certain info, some requiring root.I just want to backup my settings, apps and data to the SD card, or if at all possible an ftp / scp server.

I'm going to flash (format) my Samsung Galaxy S2 (both the external sd and internal sd) . My phone is not rooted. But there are some app's data that i want to backup before formatting. Those are some of my games' progress,Mozilla Firefox's history, bookmarks etc,Opera Mini history etc. , and the songs i tagged in Shazam. How am i supposed to do that since i know that you can't backup app data such as game progrees if your phone is not rooted ? Also i can't access those apps, whenever i open them they constantly crash, this started 1 week ago, that's why im gonna flash my device.

I've just rooted my 3UK Hero using the Goldcard method, as I want the 2.1 sense ROM installed onto my phone. I've loaded the 1.5 software. I've rooted using instant root - I know this much has worked as I've been able to install the apps which require root access.
I'm sure I've been following the guide to the letter (otherwise I'd never have got this far with it). However, when I start up the phone in recovery mode, I don't get the option of backup/restore.
I turn the phone back on, by holding the home and power key. After the Hero logo, I get a triangle with a '!' in and underneath that, is a little picture of a phone. So I press Home and Power again and the Android system recovery utility screen appears. I get the following options:-
reboot system now [Home+Back]
apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
At the bottom of the screen is the following message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Is there a way i can backup my user app info like what level i'm at in a game without being rooted, i think thats the only thing android needs to be a perfect OS... link your apps to your gmail and it wouldn't matter what phone or carrier you get/gotto your app info is there...
Any app that can do that without your phone having to be rooted, i know its a reach...

I recently rooted my Incredible and installed the leaked 2.2 update. Since then, occasionally when I go from one app and then click the home button, it flashes and then shows the HTC white screen and then it takes time to load all my home screens back up. It seems to me like HTC Sense is rebooting.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am now stuck at the startup m. I was rooted running 2.1 with titanium backup, clockwork recovery and tthe kousch botstrapper installed. The first thing I did with clockwork was to tell it to make a recovery file. Today I threw the bootstrapper apk folder on the sd card and had it install. then I put the fly-x rom on the sdcard in teh clockwork folder, opened the bootstrap app and told it to boot into recovery.
Once in recovery I had it apply the fly-x rom.zip and everything seemed to go fine. no dice, stuck at the logo. pulled battery tried again, same result. got back into the bootstrap launcher and told it to boot the recovery.zip file I created. all seemed to go fine. Reboot and get the same screen.
I have a rooted mytouch 4g slide phone that seems to work fine but when I try to use certain apps that require root (for example "extended power menu") it doesn't work. here is a quick video : [URL]

View 1 Replies View RelatedPretty much the ONLY problem that I am having with the Android operating system is bookmark sorting in the browser.I don't have my phone rooted, and all I want to be able to do at the very least is sort my bookmarks the way I want them. It would be NICE to be able to put them in folders, but I haven't found a good app that does that yet. I saw a couple of other threads on this topic, but some of the apps that were listed there are no longer available on the app market.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter following the G2 Rooting thread over at XDA would you buy a phone that could not be rooted? I was just wondering how many people would consider rooting a requirement when selecting which Android phone to purchase. I am not saying the G2 may never be able to obtain permanent root btw, just got me wondering.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to take screenshots on my android phone. I'm an app developer and have a pretty good understanding of the regular API, and I know this steps out of the "regular" thing quite a bit. I would have root access. I've seen a few apps that do this. I'm just wondering how one goes about doing it. Anybody know the general direction I should be looking in?
