Just updated in the market.He added the popular request that pressing the home key takes you to your default home page.If you are at your home page already then it will launch the screen that shows all your pages.

How do you get the default home launcher back?. I'm presently using the 2.1 launcher and I'm not liking it. At one point when I first restored the ROM it gave me a choice and I selected the use as default button... how do I get back to home the Launcher.
View 11 Replies View RelatedOkay so here is another strange thing I noticed with the update.2 of the 3 phones that got the update now have a little home icon on the bottom of one of the touchwiz screens when you are in the edit mode. This page with the home icon can now be moved to whereever you want it in the positioning of the 1-7 screens you have and when you click on the "home" key at the very bottom it will go to that screen. Previously there was no home key and your home screen was either the middle or far left screen depending on the number of screens you had.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using LP for about a week (it's great BTW!) and this just started to happen so it could have something to do with the latest update. I've set LP at the default launcher and everything works great. However, if I ever long press the "home" button, go to an application, then press "home" again I get the popup asking me which launcher I want to use. I check the "set as default" box then select LP and everything is good again. It all works until I long press home the next time, then the remembered default is gone and I get the prompt again. I've tried rebooting, clearing defaults, etc.

I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.
So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks).
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.
Ive had open home downloaded for over a month and i only used it for a short period of time before switching back to the default homepage setting. Now, because of the new features added to Open Home i want to switch back, and every time i open 'Open Home' it only opens until i hit the home key. Then it does not ask me what i want to use as my default as it used to. I went to settings>applications>manage applications>open home to clear all defaults but it is not highlighted for me to select it. How can i set Open Home to my default again?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using Launcher Pro and just yesterday I started having the issue where if you long-press Home and switch apps, you remove your default launch choice and then need to reselect it the next time you short-press on Home. It remembers the setting until I again long-press and use the app switcher.My question: how do I get this to stick? What 'app' is used to do the app switch by default, and is there anything else I could use to do this? I would hate to be stuck with this permanently, and I'm not thinking it is LauncherPro's fault. What other apps could conflict and cause this behavior?

The only problem is that I have to force quit my default homescreen (in this case it's called "LG Homescreen")--task-killers won't work and I have to go into the application settings to force it. Fine. But every time I reboot my phone it runs along side of adw and I want only adw when the phone boots. I already set adw as my default homscreen, no change.

(I got it from bais on MoDaCo). It is an apk and it has been tested and proven to work on FroYo and �clair (not sure about Cupcake/Donut). Install through adb or a file explorer. I tried it out, not too bad. Still prefer LauncherPro but I can show this off if an iPhone fanboy talks about how great iPhone UI is. Couple of notes: -To edit bottom dock, go into menu, press edit, this allows you to move icons around between dock and menu. -To edit order of homescreens or # of homescreens, go home, press menu and then edit. Couple of flaws: -Cannot set your own icons for bottom dock (you can change which apps are there but cannot use custom icons). Cannot set a default homescreen.

It looks exactly like ADW Launcher, but allows use of icon packs and adds a few more feature which I don't use (cube transitions between home screens for example). But Live Home allows icon packs ... which is big. Anyone have an opinion about this? ADW seems very stable. And I don't want to use Live Home if he is ripping off ADW (he did say it is based on ADW thought)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a some strange issue. I would like to get the package name of the current home screen. lets say we have two home screens : 1. default android home theme 2. 3rd party home theme. Assume both are installed and current home theme is 3rd party home theme.
Now I would like to get the package package name of the current home theme (3rd party). Is there any api which can give the current home screen package name? I can get the package name in ddms. But I want it pro grammatically.
I don't have the accurate terminology and maybe that's a part of my question. In the android home screen, we have the ability to slide the screen left and right and display multiple pages. Each of these pages has a different set of icons. in the mac world these would be called "spaces". What is it called in the android world. More importantly is there a standard control that can be used to achieve this effect ?

I checked my application directory and it doesnt exist and i also tried disabling HTC Sense and it dont have the option to choose the default launcher. I do remember having it at some point so i must have accidentally uninstalled it somewhere down the line. Is there a way to get it back or download from somewhere. I know there are other Launchers out there like Launcher Pro but i just want to get back the stock launcher. I even tried a factory wipe hoping to get it back and nada. Google search hasnt helped either.

I have my screens all set up using launcher pro, I want to change a few things around or just start from scratch. Is there way to save my screens and then start from scratch? Or do I need to save it then remove all my widgets and start again that way? I want to be able to go back to it if I don't like what I come up with.

I had a look at the source code to see how it was done and found that the magic is done in the "com.android.launcher" package. I take it that it is inadvisable to use the same classes as those in that package due to them not being part of the official SDK and therefore up for change at any point? If so, is there a good way to get a similar effect from the official SDK? The Sliding Drawer would have given me what I needed if it was possible to have more than one defined, but that seems to not be supported. I rooted my EVO and flashed a ROM that has Launcher Pro installed. While I was playing with the phone I chose for the default launcher to be used. I'd like to change that now and can't find a way to make LP my default launcher.
Second, I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that most or all of the Sense widgets cannot be used while LP is being used. If that's the case, are there alternatives to the bookmarks widget and the Friend Stream widget?
And lastly, can anyone confirm that the EVO has LED colors other than red/orange and green? Those are the only two I've seen.
