Recently if I switch phone off I find that when I power it back up it keeps asking me which of my installed launchers to use as default.
how I can stop this? I rarely switch off phone and have ticked the make launcher default button but it still resets when rebooted.

how I can reset the default app settings. For example, using Blinkfeed on my M8, when I tap on a link, the first time I was asked which browser should be used. How can I reset Blinkfeed, or any other app to ask me again which app to use? Is it always an app setting, or can I centrally control that behavior?

First of all I have a Sprint Epic Touch 4G AKA Samsung Galaxy 2 S and not rooted,
I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.
So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks).
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.
I've been using LP for about a week (it's great BTW!) and this just started to happen so it could have something to do with the latest update. I've set LP at the default launcher and everything works great. However, if I ever long press the "home" button, go to an application, then press "home" again I get the popup asking me which launcher I want to use. I check the "set as default" box then select LP and everything is good again. It all works until I long press home the next time, then the remembered default is gone and I get the prompt again. I've tried rebooting, clearing defaults, etc.

I was wondering if anybody else was having the same or a similar issue? Just got a Galaxy Skyrocket (jumped ship from iPhone 4) and switched the launcher to Go Launcher EX. However, I noticed that I can't exit/quit some of the apps by choosing the "close" option for the running app. In Go Launcher, you can get a list of (background) running apps and if you tap the icon of an app, you get a pop-up with options "close", "lock', "goto", and "info". I would think by choosing "close', it would "exit" or "quit" the app, and clear the memory footprint. However, for some apps, like Facebook, Tweeter (actually TweetCaster), etc.--they will disappear for a while and come back again. So the "close" action does not really "kill" the app.
How can I really kill the app? I don't want Tweeter to be constantly running in the background and pulling down hundreds of tweets.
Also how can I stop some apps, e.g. Facebook, from pre-loading? I don't want these apps running in the background eating up the resources when I don't need them. There must be a way, Just haven't figure it out yet.
I just updated my launcher pro beta.. it is now version 18..according to settings applications.so now when i press home it just goes to my original launcher and doesn't even prompt me as to what i want my default to be.i have a milestone and i'm rooted! but help. i hate the stock launcher!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Galaxy S2 and i have the problem that every time y hit the home button it keeps asking for my default launcher i searched and it seems that it isn't a Galaxy S2 problem because a lot of models have it.
I clear dalvik and cache partition and fix permissions and it was fix.
But is it possible to have ADW launcher have the default app drawer or are the launcher and appdrawer tied together. eg you can only have one or the other. The device in question is the motorola xoom wifi.
Reason being is because I enjoy having ADW launcher's ability to take up the full screen on my xoom as opposed to have the columns on either side where you cant place app (wasted screen real estate if you ask me, since theirs no need for a tapping area when you can swipe to change screens). But at the same time I very much enjoy the ICS app drawer and being able to see a visual representation of my widgets and what not.
if it is possible to have both the ICS app drawer and a custom launcher? By this I mean to have the custom launcher home screen and the default appdrawer? I have googled but I haven't found an answer Thats why im asking. I don't know enough about android to figure it out on my own, So can you have both your cake and eat it too? Or is the homescreen tied to their respective launchers. Eg you cant have the default app drawer without also using the default homescreen launcher? I'm currently on APEX launcher and cm9. When i put any widgets on the home screen that auto update, they do work ok for a short while, but then stop. for instance, a clock widget will work for a 10 minutes maybe, but then stick.
I don't use any a task killer.
I have Alcatel OneTouch Idol 6030x, rooted with framaroot, and I wanted to install an other launcher. I have installed Nova Launcher, press the Home Button and it asks me which launcher to go. I select Nova launcher and set as default. But everytime I lock/unlock my phone, default settings are gone and it asks me again. It's annoying. I have tried with other launchers.

First off, I maintain a Sidekick 4G ROM, and it's been pretty successful so far. But, the default Launcher in system/app is launcher2.apk and it works no mistake about it. But I want to change this launcher to FTL (Faster Than Light) because it performs a lot better for the scenario I'm in. However, I remove the launcher2.apk, and include the FTL.apk, and after flashing I'm left without a launcher, even renaming the FTL.apk to launcher2.apk doesn't work. I even went into META-INF folder and changed the name lowveld to CERT (like it is in most launchers)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was in the default SMS ringtone settings as I wanted to separate SMS notification tone from the tone used for the other notifications and I accidently it to 'Facebook Pop' tone. Now I don't get the Samsung default 'whistle' tone on my Note 3 that I want and I don't know how to change it back. When I select the 'select ringtone' option just takes me to a memory folder paths and there is no sign of any of the default ringtones anywhere. I just want the factory ringtone back. Why does Google have to complicate things by taking you to the general folder paths just to select a ringtone? How to remove the Facebook Pop tone and get me back to the default whistle tone that I have selected in the system sound settings? There seems to be no way of accessing the device folders which appears in ES Explorer, there are only the external and internal memory folders available, making it impossible to access the default tone directly unless I copy it from the system folder via ES Explorer and paste it to a folder within the internal memory. Why can't Google allow direct access to default tones within the default SMS app in the ringtone selection pane? It seems like an obvious thing to do which the stupidly left out of even the latest OS. I'm running 4.3 Android.
P.S. it seems now that even in the system settings itself in the sound settings the default notification setting takes me to the same folder path rather than before where I could simply select from a small number of preinstalled notification tones. The call ringtones are unaffected and can simply select a ringtone without being taken to any stupid folder paths, but the notification setting is whacked because I dabbled with the SMS app settings. How stupid are the Google Android time, why can they do it as well as Apple?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Jellybean 4.2.1. I am also running Nova Launcher V2.1.1. Every time I re-boot the phone I get prompted to select the default "Launcher" or "Nova". Selecting "always" has no effect on subsequent re-boots. I have also tried numerous apps to set the default launcher without success and tried clearing the defaults for the "stock" launcher. Any manual way to correct this problem by manipulating the relevant files on the phone? This problem only started once I installed the 4.2.1 OTA update.

I cleaned a bunch of files with Titanium Backup and have have backups of the uninstalled apps which include my default gallery (I had another gallery app), Homescreen Launcher and some others.
By mistakenly I reset my phone to factory settings and now after resetting I cannot access any functions. Since I had deleted the launcher. I am having the files of the launcher though but since the phone has USB Debugging turned off and Google Account not set, I am not able to do anything!! Is there any update.zip kind of file to reinstall the launcher? I am using Motorola Fire XT311 which has locked bootloader so no Nandroids too !!
I have contact pictures for my contacts that I have chosen and assigned to my contacts manually and are stored as the Google contact picture, I have an issue with the facebook app when it syncs a facebook profile picture update the application forces the contacts default picture to be the facebook picture.
I don't want it to do this, it can change the facebook linked contact picture but why does it have to change the contacts default picture?? Is there some way this can be blocked or stopped from within Android contacts??
This has been prevalent since before I can remember with the facebook app and sync. Surely submitting a bug to facebook is not the solution as we SHOULD be able to control and/or lock portions of our contacts details..
I have a enable and disable button. When this button is enable, user can launch my application normally. But when the button is in disable state, I don't want to start the application, that is the launcher activity should not start, but the icon for application will be there.When we click on the icon for application to launch it should not start.

It remembers the setting until I again long-press and use the app switcher.My question: how do I get this to stick? What 'app' is used to do the app switch by default, and is there anything else I could use to do this? I would hate to be stuck with this permanently, and I'm not thinking it is LauncherPro's fault. What other apps could conflict and cause this behavior?

The only problem is that I have to force quit my default homescreen (in this case it's called "LG Homescreen")--task-killers won't work and I have to go into the application settings to force it. Fine. But every time I reboot my phone it runs along side of adw and I want only adw when the phone boots. I already set adw as my default homscreen, no change.
