Nov 3, 2010I have an Android app that has both CursorAdapter based ListViews (backed by sqlite) as well as custom BaseAdapter based ListViews which are built on the fly from JSON pulled down from a server.
The data displayed in both is identical - an image and a couple of TextViews. My Cursor-based ListView has 3000 rows, the JSON-based ListView has about 30. However, scrolling down the list is significantly faster for the Cursor-based adapter. For the JSON-based lists, the data is all fetched before the rows are made visible. Images for both types of lists are downloaded on-demand.
I have both ListViews configured identically - both with fastScrollEnabled, scrollingCache and smoothScrollbar set to true.
I'm looking for leads on how to go about trying to figure out what's going on here and to potentially fix it so that the JSON-based ListViews as as fast as the Cursor-based ones.
Android :: Insert Data In To A Single Column Of An Existed Table?
Jul 15, 2010I have two files, one called "part1.txt" and another one called "part2.txt", which look like following

lili like eating apple
lucy like playing football
Now i want to insert the contents of these two files into a single table with the schema
table_name(linefrompart1 varchar(100), linefrompart2 varchar(50))
My program reads the first file line by line and insert the data into the first column. But if it reads the second file and tries to insert the data line by line into the second column, it doesn't work the way i want. A table which i want should look like following
linefrompart1 linefrompart2
lili like eating apple
lucy like playing football
But instead i got the following table
linefrompart1 linefrompart2
lili null
lucy null
null like eating apple
null like playing football
Does somebody know how i can fix this problem?

Android :: Transition Between Data In Single Dynamic View In Android?
Jun 20, 2010Let me start out by saying that I feel like there should be a very simple way to do this, and it's entirely possible I'm missing something very simple. But all the examples I find for transition animations (push left out, push right in, etc.) deal with moving from one view to another. What about an application that only has one view, but dynamically changes the data feeding that view? The best common example of this is the base calendar app. It has identical views, but when you swipe forward or backward the date of the view transitions with a swipe animation. How do I reproduce this? Surely I don't have to inflate ViewFlippers for the same view? And if so, what is the best way to go about this?

Apr 20, 2009Just looking at options for data updating affecting items in a ListView and have hit a few issues/queries.
There seems to only be notifyDataSetChanged() and notifyDataSetInvalidated(). While I could use notifyDataSetChanged() I am most likely in my case to have the scenario where additional data has been added and it seems inefficient to say the data has changed, which can only be resolved by calling getCount() and then getView() for all displayed items where knowing the data has been appended would just require adjusting the scrollbar. Is there some way to achieve something similar to this as the market seems happy populating dynamically in a manner that seems to reflect my desired behaviour (unless it just refreshes it all that fast).
Next question is the situation where the data behind just one item has changed. For instance I may wish to download icons in a background thread, but display available information with a placeholder icon. The best idea I've had so far is to store a map of indexes and views in my adapter which I can check against then call getView directly myself to have the view recycled with the new data. I'd just need additional logic to handle removing the map when the view gets destroyed or when it's recycled in getView. Either a bi-directional map (do we have one of those?) or two maps. Is the above likely to be my best approach or is there something built-in/better to get it done.

Feb 10, 2009I'm using an autocomplete box, with suggestions provided by a SimpleQueryAdapter.Not sure if relevant, but only difference I see is that, both in the adapter constructor, as well as in runQuery(), I use a cursor returned by SQLiteDatabase#query obtained via an SQLiteOpenHelper instance.Should I be using on these cursors or not?If I don't use managed cursors, then I get "leak found" warnings ("database was created [sic] but never closed").

Replace Single Row View In Custom STATIC ListView - STATIC Data
Mar 18, 2013I have Eclipse Juno and I'm working on an app with that.
The main activity will have a scrollable menu that takes you to all the other activities.
So the general structure/outline right now:[HIGH]Relative Layout ImageView (header logo type thing) ListView (the actual scrollable menu)[/HIGH]Here's the problem though... I can't find any simple list tutorials. I can easily make a single line list work but I need to make a two line list and one that is static, not dynamic and no examples are out there for that. It's like if you want to make a 2 line list, you can only learn how to do it in the most code-heavy ridiculous way possible.
Essentially what I am looking for with the list is this: Item one: Centred, bold, non selectable title (Resources)
- Item two-??: two line list items, click-able to a new activity, title of the section on first line, description on the second line.
- Item ??: Centred, bold, non selectable title (Tools)
- Item ??-??: two line list items, click-able to a new activity, title of the section on first line, description on the second line.
Nothing dynamic that is ever going to change, no super complex wonkey calculations, just to simply have the data set in stone (preferably via XML) and to call it into the list.
I experimented with some of the other list views and no matter what I did, I could get, via editing the resources and NOT using Java, more that one item on a single line but it wouldn't format it properly according to the layout I guess because I haven't got the ID correct or whatever I don't know.
I mean, all the examples I've seen for a 2 line list are extraordinarily over-coded and just bloated. I mean I have a website I am still working on in C#/ASP.net that has far more complex things in it with half the code that I've seen for the examples of the two line lists.
I tried on my own to figure it out (I am decent with C# and vaguely familiar with Java, self taught, and programming for some other systems like Python, again all self-taught), but like ALL coding references, they're organised by the actual code you implement (that you don't know) instead of by what you want it to do (so you have to search the whole code base to find something that you don't know what it's called but know what it does). >:C

May 24, 2010I have a frame of 22 bytes. The frame is the input stream from an accelerometer via bluetooth. The acceleromter readings are a 16 bit number split over two bytes.
When i try to merge the bytes with buffer[1] + buffer[2], rather than adding the bytes, it just puts the results side by side. so 1+2 = 12.
How to combine these two bytes to obtain the original number. (btw the bytes are sent little endian)

So im looking at upgrading from a 4.3" HD2 Gingerbread with merged Status Bar + Soft Keys, to a larger 4.55" Xperia T unmerged.
