Android :: How To Handle Multiple Adapters For One ListView?

Jul 6, 2009

Currently I'm trying to find an efficient way to handle the following scenario. Please comment on my current implementations and all feedback is greatly appreciated! I have about 7 adapters with data. This data comes from database and some come from xml queries over the internet which are kept static in memory. In my current implementation I re-use one ListView constantly to display this data as requested by the user. Here are the questions: 1. Is this a proper approach? or should I have a ListView for every Adapter?

Android :: Should App's With Multiple Layouts Have Multiple Activities To Handle Each

Jul 1, 2010

I'm planning to develop and app that presents the users with several different screens (of different information).
Was wondering what would be the best way to implement this?

Is it better to have separate XML layouts and an activity to display and allow the user to interact with each screen of data?

OR would handling all of these in the same activity be more efficient (and dynamically load / unload each layout)?

Android :: Scrolling Large Lists Of Cursor-based Adapters Is Faster Than Much Smaller Lists Of In-memory Adapters

Nov 3, 2010

I have an Android app that has both CursorAdapter based ListViews (backed by sqlite) as well as custom BaseAdapter based ListViews which are built on the fly from JSON pulled down from a server.

The data displayed in both is identical - an image and a couple of TextViews. My Cursor-based ListView has 3000 rows, the JSON-based ListView has about 30. However, scrolling down the list is significantly faster for the Cursor-based adapter. For the JSON-based lists, the data is all fetched before the rows are made visible. Images for both types of lists are downloaded on-demand.

I have both ListViews configured identically - both with fastScrollEnabled, scrollingCache and smoothScrollbar set to true.

I'm looking for leads on how to go about trying to figure out what's going on here and to potentially fix it so that the JSON-based ListViews as as fast as the Cursor-based ones.

How To Handle Multiple Property Files With Android

Mar 26, 2012

I would like to have multiple property files checked in to my project that each define the same properties but for different environments. For instance, a development one and an operational one that each point to a different server.

Ex. myapp.properties.dev
-> server.host=1.2.3.4
-> server.port=8080
myapp.properties.ops
-> server.host=5.6.7.8
-> server.port=8081

I would like to have some way when building my android project to an apk to specify which property file to include and rename it to just myapp. properties.

Android :: Need Twitter Client To Handle Multiple Accounts

Jan 8, 2010

So I've poked around a bit, and am mildly disappointed with what I've found so far in my search. I need a Twitter client that can actually reliably deal with two accounts, and not mix them up. I tweet for an organization as well as my own account, and cannot have it bugging up and switching accounts as I've heard that Twidroid does. FYI, I'm using the free version of Twidroid now, and have no complaints about it thus far, but I have not been wowed by it either. Does anyone have any experience with any other clients, or should I just suck it up and throw down for Twidroid? I don't mind paying for an app, as long as it functions solidly.

Android :: How To Let Parent Handle Onclick Event For ListView?

Jul 27, 2010

This should be a simple question because I couldn't get the answer from Google . I have ListView in a LinearLayout . I need to handle the click event to allow user click on the LinearLayout to trigger some function. I try to add onClickListener to the LinearLayout , and it works only when I click outside of the ListView . How do I let the click event on ListView propagate automatically to be handled by the Listener of the LinearLayout?

HTC EVO 4G :: YouTube App Can't Handle Multiple Uploads

Jul 13, 2010

this will be a fix in Froyo, supposedly due out by christmas for all us EVO owners. (unless you have rooted it already). YouTube App won't upload Multiple movies. I take several clips when documenting my friends and family. then I like to upload them all at the end of the day off the phone. This seems like a normal practice, but it is something that the YouTube app seems to have a problem with.

Here is the scenario:

I'm in Videos.
I click Share.
I choose YouTube from the Pop-up.
Then I choose my videos (plural).
Now they are all in the Que.
First video in the que uploads slowly, and then randomly stops at 40 or 50 or 60% saying "Waiting to retry"

This is the case for every single Multiple Upload I do. So I ran tests with: Gmail - no luck cause it get's stuck on "Sending" with no progress bar. Browser - upload disabled on Mobile devices over browser. What works is - Uploading 1 video at a time.

Android :: Multiple Views For For Row In ListView

Jan 17, 2010

I have a ListView that could have 4 different views for a row depending on the data for the row. I have the ListView working correctly overriding getViewTypeCount and getItemViewTYpe. I originally was trying to dynamiclly update the view type count as new views were inflated by forcing calls to getViewTypeCount because it was possible that maybe one or two views may be all that would be needed. The app never functioned correctly crashing after there was more than one view added. The problem was fixed by setting getViewTypeCount to always return 4. I noticed getViewTypeCount is automatically called on app start-up and never called again unless a force call is made. So I'm just curious if this can be changed dynamically or do you need to know the number of max views you can possibly have and override getViewTypeCount to return that max value.

Android :: Multiple Intents In A ListView Populated Via Subclass

Jun 2, 2010

I have a ListActivity which is being filled via an internal class "OrderAdapter" - while the list is being populated I set various OnClickListeners on the TextView elements which should open the same view with different parameter values per line. My problem I have is that no matter which entry in the list I click I will always get to a view with the same parameter ID (it's always the ID of the last line in the list) - even though the output of the ID varies if I output it to the TextView.

Here is the code of the internal class which populates the list in the ListActivity:

CODE:.............

Any ideas why it always opens the view with the same ID even though the TextView "tvCheatTitle" displays a different value in every line?

Android :: Optimization Proposals For ListView With Data From Multiple Tables

Aug 18, 2010

I just encountered the following situation. I have an Android app with a scenario which I guess may happen in multiple apps. It's about tagging/labeling/categorizing, call it as you want.After CommonsWare's feedback here a bit of a clarification. I'm weird about doing the second query to the DB inside the CursorAdapter, basically this would result in one query per row and I fear this will heavily impact my performance (I've still to test it on a real device with a substantial amount of data to see how much this impacts).My question therefore is on whether there are some strategies on how to avoid this given my data model or whether I have to basically "live" with that :)

Android :: Cursor Adapter - Binding Multiple Item Values In ListView

Jan 12, 2010

I have the following code to intantiate a SimpleCursorAdapter to use with a ListView. As you can see I have passed the R.layout.log_item to display the list items, and one value/control to bind to (TripDate).

SimpleCursorAdapter sca = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.log_item,c,new String[] {DBAdapter.KEY_LOG_TRIPDATE},new int[]{R.id.txtTripDate});

This works. I currently only have one widget in the layout xml, a TextView to hold the TripDate.
How do I pass multiple binding parameters for the additional widgets in the layout? So I can also display other info.

Android :: Views - ListViews And Adapters

Apr 20, 2009

Just looking at options for data updating affecting items in a ListView and have hit a few issues/queries.

There seems to only be notifyDataSetChanged() and notifyDataSetInvalidated(). While I could use notifyDataSetChanged() I am most likely in my case to have the scenario where additional data has been added and it seems inefficient to say the data has changed, which can only be resolved by calling getCount() and then getView() for all displayed items where knowing the data has been appended would just require adjusting the scrollbar. Is there some way to achieve something similar to this as the market seems happy populating dynamically in a manner that seems to reflect my desired behaviour (unless it just refreshes it all that fast).

Next question is the situation where the data behind just one item has changed. For instance I may wish to download icons in a background thread, but display available information with a placeholder icon. The best idea I've had so far is to store a map of indexes and views in my adapter which I can check against then call getView directly myself to have the view recycled with the new data. I'd just need additional logic to handle removing the map when the view gets destroyed or when it's recycled in getView. Either a bi-directional map (do we have one of those?) or two maps. Is the above likely to be my best approach or is there something built-in/better to get it done.
