Jun 1, 2010I was just wondering whether Apps auto update once a new version is released?

View 5 RepliesSo one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have alot (and I mean ALOT) of apps on my Xperia, so I get around 5 app updates a day, which is now starting to agitate me because most of them are the same apps everyday needing updates.
Today I heard about an update for the market that includes an auto update feature for installed apps. But I, like many others, do not see this option on the market.
Does anyone have any idea how to get it? or if I can't get it, when can I?
Does it actually work? I still have to manually update the apps I put on auto update.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install a new rom, and make it a nice clean fresh install. I wipe the cache, I flash the rom. As soon as I log in with my gmail account during setup, the phone downloads all the apps I had and the wall paper and a bunch of other stuff.
I do not want it to do this. I really really want to restore what I want when I want. Thats why I bought Titanium Backup. Does anyone have any ideas on:
1. Why this happens,
2. How to make it stop?
I have a 2013 Nexus 7 with 4.3 installed but my apps won't update automatically. I have sync on as well. Do they update at certain times of the day or are they supposed to update as new updates become available?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy current custom ROM includes Youtube v4.0.5. Market shows "installed" and latest avaliabvle is v4.1.23. An update isn't offered. Next I convert it into user app in TiBu. I go to the Youtube entry in market again, re-install and presto I have the shiny new Youtube. I assume the reason an update wasnt offered initially was because the app was a system app. So this makes me wonder if there's any automated solution that scans through systems apps and checks if an updated version is avaliable? I'm aware of the risks involved and I keep backups.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it was possible to update an app that was not installed from the market through the market.I've downloaded free apps from the market, unzipped them and swapped out some image files, signed and reinstalled, but these apps no longer show up in the play store--when I try, it says that the app was not signed correctly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can not auto update my apps. It tells me is "started downloading" and that is it. It will not actually download the update and just stays like that forever and inturn will suck the battery. If i stop the update and just manually update the app it will download and install just fine. It is kinda weird that it will not download automatically. It even tells me it found updates. I have bb froyo.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to configure the Google Play Store or a third party App which will automatically update ALL of my apps without having to apply the updates manually on the Google Play app? I'm on the DROID RAZR MAXX with Jellybean 4.1.2. My phone is REALLY slow when updating and I keep having to touch the screen or it halts (I think) the updates.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been loving my Droid and am continuing to learn more about it that I like. There is a ton to be found. That being said, with nearly every app I add, I am adding more time needed to update the phone. If I let it go for a few days it takes a lot of time having to click 2-3 times per app to update. Is there anything out that will allow me to update all apps that have newer versions with a single or at least fewer number of keypresses? I looked through past threads and saw some older ones but nothing recent on this issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can see there is some old threads about auto updates, but I cant find any answers.
I wonder if there is a way to auto update all my applications. I take too much time go to marked, downloads and manually update 1 by 1..
I want to add an auto update function to an app. This app can download a new version of itself, i.e., a new apk file. After finishing downloading this apk file, how to let the app update?
I'm going to try this by using PackageManager.installPackage(), but failed. The system said no one has the permission to install a package, even I had added "<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INSTALL_PACKAGES" />" to the manifest.xml.
How does the "Allow automatic updating" works? I notice that my apps have "A manual update is required." when I try to enable it. Is it anything I need to do in my codes to enable this to work? Or is it depending on the permissions required by the apps?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an application installed on phones sitting in locked boxes in different states. It runs 24/7 and has little to no user interaction.
I know how to push updates to the marketplace...can I have a thread running in my application that sees an app update, installs the apk, and opens the new apk, replacing the currently running version with it?
Yesterday my Verizon Motorola droid was automatically updated from Android 2.1 to 2.2. I was informed that it had been done via text message. I was not consulted or warned, only informed after the fact. It does not cause any problem in my app. I used the getSDcardPath (syntax approx) rather than hard-coding /sdcard/data..... and I have not found any other conflicts.
How are Android updates handled on devices? Always done automatically, this instance of auto update was unusual, or what?
If it is always done automatically then we MUST incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible just to keep our apps running on machines that they were designed to run on. (it is difficult to anticipate all future changes!)
Previous to this automatic update, I was thinking that we should incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible so the app would run on future Android versions. (this option does not require knowledge of the future.)
I have an application that I'd like to add auto-update functionality (its not in the marketplace). I have all the code in place that would check to see if there is an update available and then i call something like this: Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW ,Uri.parse(Configuration.APK_URL)); c.startActivity(intent); which starts downloading the file, although is there a way that I can programatically tell it to "open" the file to begin the installation process without the user having to go to the downloads and clicking on it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter you give an app permission to auto-update, does anyone know how often it checks for a new version of itself? Does the app check daily and if an update is found (and provided it does not alter the permissions) apply it? Is it possible to alter the frequency that it checks?
I ask because I just opened up the Android Market and right as I did so it suddenly started updating half a dozen apps. Now that was fine, since they all had been given permission to auto-update, but I want to know if they only check for an update when the market is opened, or if it was just a coincidence.
With GPS, location, etc. activated, the app doesn't update itself as I move around. My friend's iphone's GPS was able to detect him every time he turned onto an intersection. Mine stayed where it was when I first opened the app.

View 28 Replies View RelatedI'm seriously considering buying either an iphone or droid soon, and I was wondering as to the availability of a certain feature of the android os.What I am wondering is if android can recognize a phone number listed on the screen, and automatically offer to dial that number when you tap on it. (Similar to what the iphone does with its "data detectors" feature.)Also, ideally, I'd like to be able to open a spreadsheet, (which would be sort of like an editable contact list) and then be able to tap on any of the phone #s in the app and have the phone dial that number.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i downloaded advanced task killer and its great. does exactly what i need because the battery on my lg gw620 is pretty poor, but what i want to know is there an app that can turn off the auto booting of apps.
for example when i kill all the apps on my phone, if i do nothing for an hour, and i load it up again in an hour or so there are about 10 apps running (not widgets) so obviously there is a form of auto boot function that loads apps without me asking.
is there an app that can kill the auto booting?
I need a program that will auto-connect to WiFi WHILE My g1 is in my pocket and I walk around the town past different HotSpots. They say they will work but none so far I have tried will do this and yes I hit the No Sleep button...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated about 10 apps manually that I already had on my G1, since I saw them relisted in the market (again) but higher up on the "by date" tab. This system is horrid. If a user has an app and a new release comes online it should not only notify the user it should offer to auto update and the first screen that pops up should be a release notes screen so we know why it was updated and what to look for.Another more minor annoyance is that devs seems to lose track of download counts and comments in new vers. This is much more minor, but useful to both the community and the device. If anyone from Android peeks in here, hopefully this makes a list of suggested improvements.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyone get the Market auto-update function to work? It worked before the firmware update. Done a couple of factory resets. And yes, I know that the applications need to be updated because it says update in the Downloads section of the market and it's not an Update-Manual Only.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the update and when it was finished it didnt auto install, i dont want to download it again because of the bricking issue but how do i find the download and install it myself?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis morning I installed update 2.17.61.2 and since then I've noticed a fault with the auto-rotation feature. For things such as internet, SMS inbox, email inbox etc. the screen view is stuck on landscape and will not auto-rotate back to portrait when I tilt the phone
Also I tried playing Teeter and the ball doesn't move no matter how much I tilt the phone. I've tried resetting the G-Sensor Calibration but it doesn't resolve the fault.
Has anybody managed to get the news widget to auto-update? Twitter is fine just the news widget.
