I have an application installed on phones sitting in locked boxes in different states. It runs 24/7 and has little to no user interaction.
I know how to push updates to the marketplace...can I have a thread running in my application that sees an app update, installs the apk, and opens the new apk, replacing the currently running version with it?

So one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday my Verizon Motorola droid was automatically updated from Android 2.1 to 2.2. I was informed that it had been done via text message. I was not consulted or warned, only informed after the fact. It does not cause any problem in my app. I used the getSDcardPath (syntax approx) rather than hard-coding /sdcard/data..... and I have not found any other conflicts.
How are Android updates handled on devices? Always done automatically, this instance of auto update was unusual, or what?
If it is always done automatically then we MUST incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible just to keep our apps running on machines that they were designed to run on. (it is difficult to anticipate all future changes!)

Can we update to 2.2 via update.zip in recovery, install rom manager, and then install MY backup on his phone? I'm currently uploading them to file hosting, and wondering if this would work.
If so, will he be fully rooted, deodexed, and themed(I'm rocking the xtreme 2.2 theme)?
Anyone get the Market auto-update function to work? It worked before the firmware update. Done a couple of factory resets. And yes, I know that the applications need to be updated because it says update in the Downloads section of the market and it's not an Update-Manual Only.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can not auto update my apps. It tells me is "started downloading" and that is it. It will not actually download the update and just stays like that forever and inturn will suck the battery. If i stop the update and just manually update the app it will download and install just fine. It is kinda weird that it will not download automatically. It even tells me it found updates. I have bb froyo.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my Nextheme 2.1 droid to the new Froyo (gonna check out Fabs newest in a few minutes here) but one thing I have noticed is that for some reason whenever my droid is connected to a computer it auto starts USB Mass storage. I cannot for the life of me find out where I go to stop this from auto connecting, sometimes I just plug my droid into the computer to charge while I am working. Normally when I want the USB storage enabled I use SD share widget.

Some reason the drivers will not automatically install. It worked fine for my 3gslide but no luck with the 2 fascinates. Unfortunatly I dont have acess to my pc witg win7 and will be some time before I can. Need to use this phone for pdanet.

I tried yesterday and got an error that I think said something about a problem w/ the service pack.I tried probably 5x last night to install it from the market but didn't have any luck. View 23 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to update my phone now for nearly two weeks, trying various options, yet nothing I do helps in any way.I started off just running the update from SEUS with my phone as i've been using it.the updater started, gets about 70% through "Preparing" and pops up an error "Unable to install or start software update components." Closing which pops up "try again" or come to this site.I then tried uninstalling all installed components, same result as above.I then tried a Master Reset to factory setting, same result as above.I then disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus, same result as above.Basically, i'm at the end of my tether, this should not be this difficult, I should not have to jump through this amount of hoops.If there was a way to legitimately root the phone (keeping warranty), I could already have Froyo installed, instead of this irritating mess thats causing me nothing but headaches.
