I want to install a non-native sms app (handcent) as well as Where's My Droid, however both programs have access to communication and contacts, which always worries me, esp on a free program. Does anyone know if there are any known datamining problems with these apps? Any other malicious code, etc? Just want to check before I download.

Curious about people's thoughts about these different messaging options. Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

I tried to build NDK with the latest source code, bu unfortunately, faile again :( .
So is there any way to get particular version of android source code? for example the android-1.5r3 tag. Would be great if some command like "svn switch /foo/bar/1.5r3" is available.
Any suggestions?The Apps2SD is greyed out, so I never actively used this. I just updated over from 3 to 4 with no wipe in between (it IS an update after all) and it won't install handcent.I have 214mb internal storage free.hat gives? But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.
View 49 Replies View RelatedFollowed the instructions in http://developer.android.com/sdk/adding-components.html for adding 2.0 as components to an existing 1.6 SDK, from within Eclipse.
It didn't work. Not by a long shot. Instead, it got partway through and then said that C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 tempDocPackage.new01 couldn't be copied because of a lock, and similarly for PlatformPackage.new01.
It said to shut down running programs, but the only program running was Eclipse, which was needed to do the upgrade.
The cancel button was disabled, and the close box didn't work. Shutting down Eclipse killed it, but left C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 in a corrupted state. Restarting Eclipse showed the Android projects with errors, no SDK, and a disabled Android SDK and AVD Manager (which means no ability to rerun the install).
Shutting down Eclipse, renaming the corrupted SDK directory, unzipping 1.6 again into C:, and restarting Eclipse made it as if nothing had ever happened, which is good. But it is not possible to complete the install from Eclipse, which is bad.

When I run my application on a physical phone from within Eclipse, my Google MapView works perfectly. If export the app to an apk file and install it to the same phone from the command line with adb then the MapView comes up but shows only the Google logo and grid - no map tiles appear. I'm using a debug application key and a GMaps API key generated with that debug key. I've verified that this happens on both the Droid and N1 phones. The logcat looks identical in both the working and non-working cases - no obvious error messages.

My apps used to be around 56% active installs
VERY soon after I updated the apps to allow install to SDCARD (preferExternal), then the active install count started dropping like a rock. Now it's around 39% today for my main app.
My opinion is there is a bug in the SDCARD install feature somewhere that is not counting those installs. We know there already is a bug with home screen icons if you install to sdcard you will get a blank icon until the Home app restarts.
Anybody knows the install command to install an apk in system/app directory .

I have a library written in C which implements some complicated algorithm over two databases and as a result produce new one. I am trying to import it in android using android-ndk. What is the correct wat to use sqlite in you native libraries, i was able to build the sqlite manually using the ndk but when i use it gives some strange errors when trying to fetch rows from db which is on phone storate - after i fetch some data i got SQL:database not opened. how can use sqlite in native code on android.

The I changed the permission for "android.permission.ACCESS_SURFACE_FLINGER" in frameworks/base/core/ res/AndroidManifest.xml to "dangerous" and recompiled. But got the same error.
Then I commented out the "checkCallingPermission" method in IServiceManager.cpp and recompiled. Then also i got the same error.
I'd like to know if it's possible to associate a protocol (for example: 'myapp') to a native application installed on a Blackberry (or Android) so that if a user types in 'myapp://xxx' in a web browser it calls the native application. In this case, how is it possible to achieve it? As far as I understood, it's possible to do it with iphone but I don't know if it's possible with blackberry or android.
