I like how handcent works and would like to use it. My problem is that the double notifications from the native application drives me crazy. Is there a way to use handcent and remove or disable the native app?

Does anyone know if there are any known datamining problems with these apps? Any other malicious code, etc? Just want to check before I download.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent.But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

That being said, I've installed handcent mms and curious, is there a way I can disable the native mms app on the phone? It's rather annoying having to delete two different sets of notices and messages.
I am developing an Application for SMS.
1. Can i have only my own notification in status bar not native android one while receiving a SMS? Currently it is showing both. I think if i would disable the notification then it could also disable my one too.
OR
2. Can i receive my sms at any custom port? If yes then how and while receiving that would i see the native notification in status bar?
Is it possible to remove native music player and use Mixzing or some other player as default?

I have put up a screenshot of the problem I am facing. I would like to remove the bar on the top of the screen ( circled in blue). I noticed that in the examples given here ( http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/index.html) the tabWidgett doesnt have the "bar" either. Same is with contacts app (as shown in the screenshot).

View 47 Replies View RelatedIs there a setting, as with voice calls, to have all SMS commands directed through Google Voice? I've canceled my Verizon texting plan and want to send all of my texts through Google Voice. Obviously I can do this by composing messages through the GV app, but I would like to click on a contact's page and have GV automatically open to send the text message. Much like Handcent opens when you select a contacts texting option, when you have Handcent installed. When I select the text message option from a contacts page (or press their contact picture and then select the text option), the Droid opens the standard text message application to send the text. Interestingly, if I go into the call log, select a recently called number and choose "send text message," it opens Google Voice to send the text message. How do I get the same functionality as above, so that selecting text message from a contact's page or shortcut uses Google Voice to send the message?

So, My Backup, Lucky Patcher, etc. doesn't work properly. Since I can't find many GB kernel, can I remove/disable kernel's autoroot?
