View 13 Replieswhen the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent. But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks. Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.
View 49 Replies View RelatedI've just downloaded the app to the HTC Hero. It works well, the only issue I have is that when it notifies me of a message it shows the number I have on the screen and when I go in and read the message then delete and close the program, it still shows the same number when it shouldn't have any number since I deleted my messages. Is this a problem with the Hero or some type of bug in the program?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI search in Android Market on "handcent" but I only get 8 hits: 1 for Handcent keyboard, 4 for Handcent font packs, SmsFu, SMS, and VibraSeq. How do you find the Handcent sms main app? I also tried searching on "handcent sms" but no cigar there either.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFirst let me say that the Handcent SMS application is a much better messaging app than the stock app that comes with the EVO. However, the app is a battery hog and was draining my battery at a rate of almost 8 % per hour. Reason I know this is because prior to installing this app, my battery life was great. After installing the app, battery drain was really bad. Decided to uninstall the app yesterday and back to about 2% drain per hour which is what I had prior to installing the app. So for those of you with poor battery life, pay attention to what apps you may have recently installed as some of them are not optimized for battery consumption.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI picked up my Droid on 6/5 and downloaded the latest Handcent that evening.Handcent is what the stock Messaging app should have been. However, I've noticed some problems with Handcent, and I'm very interested in another app.For one, it will intermittently split the messages when it shouldn't.In other words, it will take a message that is under 160 characters and send it out in two or three different messages. Not good. Two, I opened up the thread between my wife and I.I went to Batch mode so I could select which messages in the thread to be deleted. After selecting most of them, I then hit Delete selected. Every single message on the phone was deleted. I even went into the stock Messaging app and sure enough, they were all gone. Terrible. So,what else is out there besides Handcent? I'm completely fine with having to pay for the app, as long as it isn't buggy and it has the features of Handcent.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI read that handcent was much better than the standard sms app from HTC so downloaded and installed it but now I get 2 notifications. There was a warning about this on the app page and it said to go intoapplications and stop the default message setting but if I'm looking in the right place it doesn't show as default nor allow you to change it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan anybody tell me how one is better than the other? At the risk of sounding very 'Apple', I want something that just works. Its funny how if you search enough for app reviews you always find somebody who has bad experiences. If you uninstall either of these apps, do they uninstall clean and put everything back to the way it was? *default messaging app*

View 34 Replies View RelatedI've had problems with HandCent recently. The new version refused to upload from the marketplace and everytime I tried to cancel the upload it 'force closed' on me.
So I uninstalled handcent completely from my phone (HTC Desire, Froyo) and attempted a new upload. Still won't accept it and 'force closes' on me.
There was a new update for Handcent SMS on Nov 30th. This update seems to be making my whole Phone ( Sprint Hero) chug and lag. Is anyone else experiencing this? Also...If I wanted to go back to the previous version
( 2.9.17 & 2.9.18 ) how could I do that.
I've downloaded and been using Handcent app for my messages, its a really good app dose everything i wanted out of a message app.How ever there is one thing i cant see to get working, I'm using the HTC desire and every time i resevice a message it shows i have a message on the handcent icon on my home screen that works great. Its when i lock the keypad and unlock the keypad i still get the last message showing up on the lock screen and the notification bar at the top is still displying the message icon even tho i have read the last message. i have been thru the setting and cant find out to turn this off or to use handcent has my default messaging app.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do you forward a MMS in Handcent. When I get a pic and want to send it to someone else there is no option for it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI searched for this but didn't come up with any answers. So I use Handcent, and it's awesome, but when it comes to taking a photo and then sending it via text, it won't send. It'll say the file size is too big and then I get the little red x to resend, but the same thing happens. When I open the stock text message app, take a photo, and send it the app resizes it automatically. What's the issue? How do I get Handcent to resize the photo automatically? I'm on a Droid2 if that makes a difference.

View 34 Replies View RelatedWith the latest updates to each respective SMS app now with the ability to turn off ads and such, which app do you use and why?
I currently have the vote toward HandCent SMS not having ads in the inbox window and only in the setting window.
Though I both hate how both now have the stupid + symbol next to the message composition window....anyone know how to disable it?
I've been wondering if Handcent is supposed to move all my pictures to the top of each thread? And is there anyway to save the pictures with Handcent?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a problem with the led function on the HTC Desire Z with Handcent. Coming from a HTC Hero, whenever I get a new message my LED and trackball would flash continually until I opened the text message. But now on the Z the trackpad and LED will flash for a while then stop. Is there a way of having it like the Hero?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded handcent and I made it my default messenger. When I get a text message I get a notification from Handcent as well as the stock messenger. So my phone vibrates twice and I get two notifications. The only way I can get the notification icon off the top left is to clear it. When I click it, its just takes me to handcent.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Handcent for my messaging. For the last two days I have been experiencing some slow messaging. By this I mean that when I send a message or receive a message, there is a delay before the message being sent or received pops up on my screen. I don't know why that is. Sometimes it is delayed for 15 seconds before showing on the screen. I have not done anything to cause this change. Otherwise the handcent has been working perfectly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to install a non-native sms app (handcent) as well as Where's My Droid, however both programs have access to communication and contacts, which always worries me, esp on a free program. Does anyone know if there are any known datamining problems with these apps? Any other malicious code, etc? Just want to check before I download.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBet you are all thinking here's another idiot that doesn't know how to turn off notifications in the default android sms app? After installing Handcent I immediately disabled notifications in the default app so that only Handcent was generating them. This worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago when the default app started generating them. The option is definitely 100% disabled so I have no idea why it is still generating them. To make it worse even if I go into all messages with both Handcent and the default app my LED remains blue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI can flick the history of messages but I seem unable to stop the scrolling once it starts and end up just waiting for it to come to a stop. Is there no way to just point and have it stop instantly? I thought this was working so did I inadvertently turn something off?
