Android :: Handcent - Stop The Flick
Dec 7, 2009
I can flick the history of messages but I seem unable to stop the scrolling once it starts and end up just waiting for it to come to a stop. Is there no way to just point and have it stop instantly? I thought this was working so did I inadvertently turn something off?

I get 2x notifications when I receive messages with Handcent. I assumed the stock sms app was also notifying, but I think I turned that one off. Still getting the 2x notification

I'm new to Android, and have the Nexus One. Before getting it, I was planning on getting the Nokia X6, which has a very cool widget that shows pics of your contacts in a row on your home screen, and allows you to scroll through them.
I assumed there would be a widget like this for Android, but can't find one. All I've found are ways to put a single contact as a shortcut on the desktop, or a few contacts together. I really want it to be compact and scrolling though. Any ideas?
Here's a pic of the X6-- you can see the scrolling contacts widget at the top.

Balancing our newest game, Flick Defense. Many people have been giving us mixed reports on the difficulty, specifically the arrow angles. We would love to get some feedback! The Demo version is free to download!

Got the OTA like everyone else and everything works great. The ONLY thing I have realized is that my photo Gallery (the stock one) is running SOOO slow. I used to be able to flick through the photos without ever coming upon a grey square (with no pic). Now, after a strong flick, I get nothing but grey squares. They eventually load into pictures, but it takes about 3 - 4 seconds before they load. Any ideas? Could it be there are too many pics in the phone / card or is this as a result of the update?

Sometimes when scrolling down on a page (using my finger to scroll) the page will scroll all the way to the bottom of the page with a single flick of the finger. Am I unintentionally doing a specific gesture with my finger that causes this to happen? Or is this just a bug at this point?

when the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent.But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks.Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

Okay when user presses log out button what's supposed to happen is:
Code:
stopService(myIntent);
unbindService(mConnection);
mIsBound = false;
I need to shut down the service on background.Except the service restarts itself over and over again! Even if I kill the program from task manager the service restarts itself. Other programs aren't using the service. when I uninstalled the program the foreground program information popped up indicating it was STILL there(albeit this I solved by rebooting phone).
When user says he's finished with the program 'least he can expect is for the program to stay down rather than keep eating battery by acquiring GPS signal and sending them to server. The program is not intended to be "once you log in you need to Uninstall me and reboot phone to get rid of me!" type of program!

I have a very simple app. I have simplified for sake of discussion, but I think this is a good representation.
My issue is that when I exit the app, the GPS continues receive updates. As far as I can tell the app never stops running, it just no longer displays the map activity.
I have to be missing something important.

I've just downloaded the app to the HTC Hero. It works well, the only issue I have is that when it notifies me of a message it shows the number I have on the screen and when I go in and read the message then delete and close the program, it still shows the same number when it shouldn't have any number since I deleted my messages. Is this a problem with the Hero or some type of bug in the program?

I search in Android Market on "handcent" but I only get 8 hits: 1 for Handcent keyboard, 4 for Handcent font packs, SmsFu, SMS, and VibraSeq. How do you find the Handcent sms main app? I also tried searching on "handcent sms" but no cigar there either.

First let me say that the Handcent SMS application is a much better messaging app than the stock app that comes with the EVO. However, the app is a battery hog and was draining my battery at a rate of almost 8 % per hour. Reason I know this is because prior to installing this app, my battery life was great. After installing the app, battery drain was really bad. Decided to uninstall the app yesterday and back to about 2% drain per hour which is what I had prior to installing the app. So for those of you with poor battery life, pay attention to what apps you may have recently installed as some of them are not optimized for battery consumption.

I picked up my Droid on 6/5 and downloaded the latest Handcent that evening.Handcent is what the stock Messaging app should have been.However, I've noticed some problems with Handcent, and I'm very interested in another app.For one, it will intermittently split the messages when it shouldn't.In other words, it will take a message that is under 160 characters and send it out in two or three different messages. Not good.Two, I opened up the thread between my wife and I.I went to Batch mode so I could select which messages in the thread to be deleted. After selecting most of them, I then hit Delete selected. Every single message on the phone was deleted. I even went into the stock Messaging app and sure enough, they were all gone. Terrible.So,what else is out there besides Handcent? I'm completely fine with having to pay for the app, as long as it isn't buggy and it has the features of Handcent.

I read that handcent was much better than the standard sms app from HTC so downloaded and installed it but now I get 2 notifications.There was a warning about this on the app page and it said to go intoapplications and stop the default message setting but if I'm looking in the right place it doesn't show as default nor allow you to change it.

Can anybody tell me how one is better than the other? At the risk of sounding very 'Apple', I want something that just works. Its funny how if you search enough for app reviews you always find somebody who has bad experiences.If you uninstall either of these apps, do they uninstall clean and put everything back to the way it was? *default messaging app*

I've had problems with HandCent recently. The new version refused to upload from the marketplace and everytime I tried to cancel the upload it 'force closed' on me.
So I uninstalled handcent completely from my phone (HTC Desire, Froyo) and attempted a new upload. Still won't accept it and 'force closes' on me.

I searched for this but didn't come up with any answers. So I use Handcent, and it's awesome, but when it comes to taking a photo and then sending it via text, it won't send. It'll say the file size is too big and then I get the little red x to resend, but the same thing happens. When I open the stock text message app, take a photo, and send it the app resizes it automatically. What's the issue? How do I get Handcent to resize the photo automatically? I'm on a Droid2 if that makes a difference.

With the latest updates to each respective SMS app now with the ability to turn off ads and such, which app do you use and why?
I currently have the vote toward HandCent SMS not having ads in the inbox window and only in the setting window.
Though I both hate how both now have the stupid + symbol next to the message composition window....anyone know how to disable it?
