Android :: Get Users Email Id From App Automatically?
Nov 8, 2010
Is there any way to get the user's email id from my app automatically.. instead of asking the user to register with his email id or something like that....
I want to know who all bought my app, and want their email-id's to send them more info via mail..

I am in process of developing an application and I was wondering if there is a way to capture users information automatically. I am drawing up a spec of application functions that I am going to have a dev team produce so I do not have app dev skillsets. That being said...
My idea was that if an user downloads an application, starts it, and the app is automatically populated with the users' phone number, name, etc any basic information automatically. Google pairs the phone with specific accounts that store such information so the data is there. I am looking for a less intrusive way and more user friendly way of creating accounts rather than direct social media login integration.
Is this something that is viable? or is it against data laws? or not possible?

I am looking for a way to send an email from a DEFINED email to the user's email. I will also have a defined subject and a defined email - body. My situation is that when the user forgets his password, he needs to enter in his email into the text box and then the application will automatically send an email to his mailbox. Is there any way to do this without the user getting his mail client popping up?

Anyone know of an app that will quiet ONLY my email notifications at night automatically? I still want to get phone calls and SMS messages and for my alarms to ring. I just want my emails to be silent until morning. I can't find anything like this. One that comes with a widget would be even better.

My Gmail works perfectly (of course it does) but my Email program is another story. I can get it to sync fine with my Cox e-mail after I manually set it up, but I will not automatically retrieve e-mails from the server regardless of what I set the check interval to. I purposely sent myself a test email from another source and the phone never receives it unless I physically go into the email program and then it connects to the server and downloads the message. Is anyone else experiencing this? Am I doing something wrong? Right now I have the phone set to 5 min check intervals and it still doesn't automatically indicate I have new mail even though I know there is two brand new e-mails sitting there waiting for me.

I just upgraded from the Droid to the Droid X and am now having a problem. The email I receive through gmail works fine with emails arriving automatically and the notification settings working. The problem is with the regular email program that comes with the phone and my Yahoo account. Even though I believe I have it set up to automatically check email and to receive notification when it arrives, I only get new email when I manually open the app.

When I first got my new DROID a few weeks ago, new email messages arrived and I was notified by a ringtone, and a blinking green light in the upper right corner. Now that has stopped completely. If I want to check for new email messages I have to manually start the email app and manually select refresh for the app to go out and look for new messages (via Yahoo pop mail). What happened? Is there a simple setting somewhere that got switched?

when receiving pictures through gmail (I simply use the gmail app) they don't automatically appear in the email, like it does on my girlfriends Captivate through the gmail app. She didn't do anything special, just set up email and when she receives pics when she opens the email they're just there. Now there is the download and preview button next to the attachments but when I hit those my phone just says "fetching attachment, please wait". I've left my phone for at least 5 minutes and it will just sit on that screen. On one pic I did let it sit for a few minutes, gave up waiting, but noticed the pic later in my dowloaded folder. But this is the only pic it's done that with. So I would a way to get the pics to just show up in my email when I open the email, or not have to wait minutes on end for a pic to maybe get downloaded. I feel like there should be some solution without me having to download some app, since my girl's phone can do it.

After I read an email, my phone keeps if for a day or so, then deletes it. I don't want it to delete any emails without my approval. Why is it doing this and is there something in settings that will prevent it from deleting emails from my phone? I've spent what seems like hours going through the email settings menus and cant' find anything. Is there something in the general settings menu? Please help. I'm running the stock HTC mail program.

is there a way to set up my email (not gmail) to only download automatically over wifi? I receive a lot of work emails and it uses data unnecessarily when it downloads on my phone when I am at work. Ideal will be to only download when I change the setting. Don't want to turn of data completely because then all the other apps stop working too (WhatsApp, facebook etc.)

in Jelly Bean opening an email in the basic email app and then touching anywhere within the email makes the email quickly scroll down to hide the to/from bar. It's the only place in Android where a single touch causes a scrolling response, so when I open the email and begin to scroll with a swipe, it jumps down and then scrolls which is somewhat disorienting as it differs from how scrolling works in every other app including Gmail.

I'm working on a project (Foursquare). I pushed a new version to marketplace last night, but it is not showing up in marketplace searches for Evo users. I've read about this happening to other apps, and one major reason seems to be if copy protection is being used (but it is not for the Foursquare app).
Anyone else have an idea why this is happening? Is there a set of permissions Evo doesn't support which may be blocking the app from showing up in marketplace?

I'm implementing ScoreLoop for my game. There is a standard selection widget for the leaderboard type, which lets you refine the scores. By default, I get:
- Global Leaderboard - Your Country Leaderboard - 24h Leaderboard - search_list.nationality_iso3166_1 - search_list.nationality_iso3166_2
What on earth are the last two items? This list seems to come from ScoreLoop, rather than being anything configurable in the xml. I only want the first three in the list, is there anyway I can set this somewhere? I notice that other games that use ScoreLoop (like Jewels for example) only have the first three items also.

How do you instruct users to report a bug in Android? I'd like to get send detailed instructions to my users to get the most of their bug report. I know there are various apps that send bug reports from the device and I was wondering how other Android developers deal with this.

I'm writing a game that includes an editor for users to create their own levels. I'd like players to be able to share the levels they've created with other players. I'm trying to figure out the best way of implementing that, and hoping for any advice on the subject.
One obvious option is to set up a server for sharing levels. The game would connect directly to the server to let players share their creations or download levels created by other players. This provides seamless integration and a good user experience, but I'd really prefer not to use this approach. For one thing, I don't want the cost and responsibility of setting up and maintaining the server. And I would be taking on a basically unlimited obligation; otherwise, if I decided to shut down the server a few years from now, the game would suddenly lose a large part of its value.
Another idea I had is to use the Android Market as the way to distribute sets of levels. That way, Google is taking care of running the server for me. Clearly there are programs that work this way, since I've seen lots of themes and expansion packs for particular applications in the Market. While this could work, I'm not very happy with it. Asking an ordinary user to sign up for a developer account on the Market and learn how to post files through it is unreasonable, not to mention they would have to pay $25.
The approach I'm currently leaning toward is allowing levels to be exported as ordinary files. People could then just email them to each other, post them on any website they wanted, etc. Ideally I would want to set up a file type association so they could simply open an email attachment or click a link in the web browser, and my game would automatically be launched to import it. I haven't yet looked into whether that's possible.

I did an app called "Hello Yahoo" and today I made an update. But users said it can't be installed because the package is not signed correctly. And after that the old version can't even be uninstalled because the device thinks it is uninstalled already. I never experience that, but it is reported by many users. I do use a different keystore to sign it with the update. Is this the case? How can I fix this?

I'm just experimenting with Greystripe, to see how the ads look in comparison with other providers. I can't get it working, though I'm sure I've followed the instructions to the letter.
- I've setup the application and got the unique identifier. It is shown as live in my account.
- I've setup a test device and entered the correct device details
- I checked and double checked my code.
No ads are ever returned. The call sdk.is Ad Ready() always returns false. It's been hours now since the account was setup. I get no error messages. It all seems rather vague, with a lack of support from their end.

With the news of such apps such as astrid (sharing data without using user notification), I just want to know if everyone who has/had astrid has decided uninstall or keep astrid? Is it advisable to uninstall this app now after this news?
Like many other users, I found this a really useful app, and if it means having to uninstall can anyone else a similar app to astrid?

When publishing an update on the Android Market, is there any way to inform users of fixes & new features? I just published my first app and am still getting used to everything about the experience, including being taken aback by the types of comments that some people post. But I am definitely impressed with the error reporting capabilities!
