View 1 RepliesWhen my nephew is at my house, he likes to mess around with my HTC Desire. He usually plays games on my phone. Recently, he's been going into places in my phone that I don't want him to go in. My email, my contacts, and other files. Once, he even sent out a massive test to random people on my contact list. So, I banned him from playing with my phone until I find an app that blocks guest users from going through parts of my phone that I don't want them too.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe have a web application and we've built phone applications (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) to be companions to the site. The usual workflow is that an existing user of the site gets a phone app and then plugs their existing credentials into the phone app and they are off and running, but more often now we are seeing folks who are downloading the app and then (and this should not surprise anyone) don't read the help screen that explains they need to go and get credentials at the web site and therefore cannot connect to the application which does require registration to manage their content. This is a giant usability fail condition.
So we know that we need to put user registration workflows on the phone app. Other than the obvious solution of duplicating our registration page on the mobile, does anyone know of a better identity solution for the phone? For example, on the desktop we also use Facebook Connect as an identity server and the users love it. I'm looking for something that simple that we can implement across the major smartphone platforms.
Clarifying note: I should add here that this registration mechanism is likely to; and it would be desirable if it did, go hand in hand with a general identity/authorization mechanism such as the Facebook mechanism mentioned below. One other place I'm poking around is to see whether there's an openId solution that does not require a browser to pop up.
How to get money from users phone using Java application? So I want to create simple casual game, I want to charge users if they want to pass some extra layers. I want to create an app first of all for android, it'll be opensource. Than to port in on nokia and other Java enabeld devices. Are there any tutorialsmatereals on how to do such thing? Since all I need is the users location, I am trying to figure out if there is anyway I can bypass developing a native app and use some nifty html5 call to just get the users location so all a user would need to do is visit my webpage and provide permission to access his/her location?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI really like the device but to be honest it seems complicated and it would be my first smartphone. I was wondering would this be a good smartphone for someone who really just wants a phone for texting and surfing the web? I'm pretty tech savy with computers I suppose but I wouldn't want to be overloaded I guess I'm trying to say.
View 33 Replies View RelatedHas or will anyone describe the process in detail for the mac users out there. I'm on a standard Eris and would like to move to the unofficial ROOTED 2.1 ROM but I don't own a PC and am hesitant about doing it without some guidance.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn previous phones such as the Droid Eris and Droid 1, users were able to use custom boot animations without being rooted. All you had to do was push the new file to the boot animation location and it would over ride the old one. I really want custom boot animations on my X but am not rooted. Does anyone know a solution to this other than rooting and how to install without being rooted?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm developing an application for Android 2.2 that should send an SMS immediately when the phone starts ringing (under UMTS/GSM). I'm using the android.telephony.SmsManager.sendTextMessage for sending the SMS. The app is working fine under the emulator, i.e. when I call the emulator phone from another emulator, the SMS is sent instantly. However, when I'm testing the application on HTC Desire, the SMS sending only succeeds after the phone has stopped ringing. Is there anything that could be done about this or is it just a restriction of the HTC Desire device? Seems strange as it's working fine under emulator and it shouldn't be a restriction of the network..

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn android we can make a call by using intent. Similarly we can invoke receivers on the in coming call. I have implemented an application to make a call as well as to receive call using intents. My question is we can pass data using intents. The same thing if i am apply to my application i got the data as null.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn the Google 2010 I/O Day Two, they show a Google Chrome extension that they use to send an Android "intent" to the phone from Google Maps, and the phone takes that intent and shows you the mapping on it's screen.I'm having trouble finding this Extension now that I actually have an Android phone (EVO). I swear I had this on one of my computers before I had an android phone, but I try lots of stuff out and can't remember how I found it.

Here is my code:

The problem here is that it doesn't take the value of the phone number, it is still empty.
I also added this: m_intent.putExtra("sms_body", "Hello World"); and it is working.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible in Android to programmatically send an email using the phone's associated GMail credentials? I can send an email when I explicitly provide the username and password, but I was hoping to leverage the Google account already associated with the phone. Note that I don't need to actually access the username or password; I just want to leverage this information indirectly to send email.

The way I have it setup is by having a service that listens to the state of the phone and when the phone is picked up, it starts the timer and when the person hangs up, ends a timer. I would like to send this variable(long duration) over to my appWidgetProvider so I could update the edit text on it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIntents in Android are an elegant way to pass messages between uncoupled components, but what if you want to send extra data with the Intent? I know you can add various value types, and objects that implement Parcelable, as extras, but this doesn't really cater for sending user defined types locally (i.e. not over a remote interface). Any ideas?
