OK maybe I'm being paranoid and behind the rest of the world who has already done this: I'm afraid of adding my credit card to my Google Checkout account! My main concern being a super intelligent user of my Android phone who will buy a million apps (potentially!) - my 5 year old son
I used to have a credit card on my account - but that's expired
Knowing that the card had expired, I thought I would test out the buying of an app
I was surprised that it only took a few pages of my clicking yes to buy the app
(The purchase didn't go through - I got an email saying this because my credit card couldn't be charged)
Question: is there a secure pass code system to buy applications?
Like needing to input a code at the last step of buying
(I think this is how iPhone works - I say this not having owned one)
I don't think there is a secure pass system - I've played around with my phone loads and have never come across anything. BUT, EVEN if there was such a pass system: there's still something wrong!
I've bought my phone. Not made any changes. Just started using. I would imagine that's what everyone does - as opposed to buying and then customising and making secure (and maybe optimizing the use of energy so that it doesn't die within a few hours of use)
Buying an application: you can cancel within 24 hours (I think that's the time limit) Over the weekend, I let go of business life and only pick up on Monday - so if my son purchased and installed an application on Friday evening, I wouldn't find out until some time later - because I don't look at my phone OR my emails over the weekend! (+ Say if an application was purchased that I then managed to cancel - I then lose the right to buy again and trial with the right to cancel - a small point, but valid regardless I think)
Would be interested to hear what others say - maybe I'm missing something and maybe I'm using incorrectly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a non-market copy of copilot running fine on my eris when I had 1.5 on it now that I rooted and installed 2.1, when I try to install it it comes up with an invalid library error (copilots code cannot be loaded in the system ). Anyone have a work around other than downloading it from the market? I travel in remote areas sometime and I'm scared that I may be out of data range sometimes with google nav.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there anywhere a summary of Build.MODEL strings for different Android handset models? View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a platform developer and want to know how I can debug through the Android System code. I am making changes to the WindowManagerService and see a lot of statements like: (DEBUG_FOCUS) Log.v(TAG, "Clearing focused app, was " + mFocusedApp). My question is, how do I take advantage of these logs? I am using Eclipse on Ubuntu 9.10 and I have no idea how to actually debug this code.
View 5 Replies View RelatedNew to Android and new to this forum. I've converted from a blackberry and I can't tell you how much I love my Captivate. Well, enough of that :-) I have a few questions. I currently have my display set to time out after one minute. When I'm using the music player is there anyway to prevent the screen from locking. I have having to unlock it to switch tracks.
As a side, is there a way to change the locking system from a sliding pattern to a number code?

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I flash a new ROM on my phone, whether it was my old Galaxy S2 or my current Galaxy S4, Google Play recognizes that it is the same device as before and installs all the apps I previously installed on the phone.
My android stick computer (Minix Neo X5) does not behave this way. Every time I flash a new ROM, regardless of whether it is an official ROM from the developer (Minix) or a custom ROM with CWM, Google Play does not recognize that it is the same device as before and I have to go through the arduous process of installing all previous apps.
Is there a file or folder that I could backup on my stick computer and restore after flashing that will let Google Play recognize it properly? build.prop?

I wonder if its possible to change from English android to Swedish android in a hero bought in UK ?
Does they have the same serialnumbers ?
Thinking to buy a hero from UK ebay but want Swedish in it.
So I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?
Can someone explain a couple of very simple concepts to me - I'm interested in mobile devices running android and how they are identified over networks. Some scenarios: Device is connected over WiFi - presumably the device has a standard IP address as with any host and can communicate with any other android host over TCP/IP (assuming it knows the participating device's IP? device is connected over bluetooth - how are devices identified in this case? device is connected over mobile operator's network - this is the one I'm interested in and confused by - is there anyway for two or more devices to discover each other and communicate via the mobile operator's network? How does a device communicate with a backend server in this scenario? In other words, how do apps and devices communicate when not connected to a WiFi network?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome custom ROMs have different ringtones. I have a "Ringtones" folder on my SD with my own, but the ROMs carry theirs internally and once you change ROMs, so do the ringtones. I haven't looked yet, but would they possibly be in the ROM zip file and could I just pull them out of the zip to my computer? I guess I will look now, but let me know if this is the right way or if something else works better. Ultimately I would like to pull off all system ringtones so I can condense to my own and ones I have selected. It's overwhelming sometimes given that I don't and won't ever use 70% of the stock tones.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am an Android app developer, and I have purchased a Nexus One device which I use to continuously test my developed Android applications.
Background: ----------------- One of the applications I developed uses a native shared library (e.g. myNativeLib.so). Only my application loads & uses this native library. I had developed this app before Android NDK came out. I pack my native library into my apk's 'assets' folder, and during my application start- up, I extract this native library from my package's assets folder to my app private directory (i.e. <assets> -> /data/data/<myappprocess>/ myNativeLib.so). Then I use System.load() API in my application to dynamically load this native library.
Problem: ------------ This application was developed during Android 1.5 (i.e. cupcake) days {I didn't have the Nexus One then}. The above procedure has been working without any problems right from Android 1.5 to Android 2.2 (i.e. Froyo). I have also tested the same on my Nexus One for Android 2.1 (i.e. Eclair) and Android 2.2.
The problem began the moment I recently upgraded my Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 via the FRG83 system update. Now, whenever I try to load my native library, I get the following error:
D/dalvikvm( 3653): Trying to load lib /data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so <some address> I/dalvikvm( 3653): Unable to dlopen(/data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so): Cannot load library: link_image[1995]: failed to link <mynativelib>.so
What I have Tried: -------------------------- 1. I tried my application using Android 2.2 SDK (emulator)...it works, no issues. 2. I checked out the latest froyo & android2.2.1 source code from Android open-source, built & tested my application + native lib using the latest froyo source...it built & ran, no issues. This should've taken care of any changes in the native code dependencies between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 3. I even checked Android 2.2.1 source code for dalvik (java System & Runtime classes) + bionic (linker & dlopen sources) between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 (using source checked out from Android open-source), but couldn't find anything consequential 4. I am unable to return my Nexus One to Android 2.2.
I connected my phone via USB to my RR sport to upload audio files to the RR hard drive. However, I keep getting connection error. Apparently my device is not being recognized as a storage. I did the unmount thinking. Also, I am wondering how I can play audio from my phone through the RR audio system.
RR is 2010.
This shouldn't be that hard to make.( I don't think ) But how about an app sort of like a stolen phone tracking system? It would be hidden inside the phone so you couldn't see it but if anyone ever steals your phone, you can call the phone tracking systems company and find out where it is/who stole it? I think this would be useful because everyone wants this phone and after 90 days of this phone, you can unlock it so I'm pretty sure everyone wants to keep their phone safe.
