Android : Droid / Google Equivalent For Outlook Notes?

Dec 29, 2009

I'm a new user to android and although android is very clean, fast, stable, i realize there are some things it is missing.

i can sync calendars, contacts, tasks fine from my android to gmail/calendar.

But how can i sync my notes that i type in my android phone?, i don't see that section in gmail or the google calendar... (actually, i don't think there is even an official android notes/memo app yet..)

Android : Droid / google equivalent for Outlook Notes?

Does anyone know if any apps out there will do this? I've read how to export the Notes as a csv file, and impor them, but the syncing is what I'm really after.

Android : Get Outlook Notes Into New Hero?

Jul 18, 2010

I am getting a Hero next week and want to do my research ahead of time - I have lots of notes in my Outlook application and need to know how to get them into my new Hero next week. is there a good application already on the Hero that I can sync to or export them to? If not, does anyone have any recommendations for a notepad/memo app that doesn't need the internet, that I can sync to my laptop from my droid, and if possible, have the ability to enter private notes?

Android : Need App To Sync With Outlook Notes / Tasks

Dec 22, 2009

I am looking for an application that will link with Outlook. I synch with my exchange server for mail, contact, and calendar. But I have gobs of outlook notes that I want to use on my Sprint Hero. MyLink Access (Advanced) is about the only one that I have found, but their developers have not released anything other than the free version. They told me the advanced would be released before Christmas. I know it is not Christmas yet, but I just don't see that in the future. I would settle for an application that I could manage on my desktop so that I could retype all the notes and then have the desktop synch with the phone ..

Android :: Cannot Sync Outlook - Contacts - Calendar - Notes

May 18, 2010

I have an HTC Incredible on Verison running Android 2.1. With the Blackberry (NOT Exchange), I was easily able to sync contacts, calendar, Tasks, and notes with my BB. I cannot seem to do this with the Incredible.

I actually found an HTC Sync program on my phone which I installed and was able to sync the calendar and contacts once, but I have been unable to do so again. I have not found any snyc for notes or tasks. This seems like such a standard need that I cannot understand why it is not a basic ability on this awesome phone.

Anyway, I need to be able to sync my contacts, calendar, tasks and notes AND I would like to be able to backup my phone to my PC.

HTC Droid Eris :: Syncing With Outlook - Without Google

Nov 8, 2009

I think one big advantage the Eris has over the Motorola Droid is the ability to easily sync your Outlook from your PC to the phone, without using Google or your Gmail account. I'm old school and don't like the idea of all my stuff being in Google's hands.

There is a little learning curve to this so here it is step by step to save you some time.

1.Gmail contacts/mail.
The reps at the Verizon store and Best Buy have been trained to get you set up on Gmail before you leave the store, either on your existing account or starting you out with a new one. If you have an existing account there is one caveat. Gmail creates contacts for you from email addresses automatically if you really want them as "contacts" or not. If you do NOT want all these people in your phone contact list (found under the "People" ap by the way then delete them in Gmail before you set up the account. You can do this by clicking the "Contacts" link in the left column, hitting select all in the middle, and delete. You can also selectively delete then and or/sort them here. If you already have all these contacts in your phone and want to get rid of them on the device go to the People ap, then hit the menu key, then delete contacts, then menu key again, then select all, then delete. I would also point out if you want to avoid the phone picking up your Gmail contacts in the future go to the settings menu, data synchronization, and Google and there you can uncheck syncing with Gmail contacts and Google calendar too for that matter.

2.Get the sync software from HTC.
Its not in the box and there is no mention of it in the Tips and Tricks guide (the only documentation that comes with the phone. It does get a description in chapter 9.3 in the full user guide (available here: http://member.america.htc.com/download/web_materials/Manual/DROID_ERIS_Verizon/DROID_ERIS_Verizon_English_UM_11_5.pdf)

The link for the software is here. (note this is only on the HTC US site.) On that page are the instructions on how to install it so I won't go into that. But its important to note to install the software before you connect your phone to the computer.
HTC Sync Update 2.0.8 for DROID ERIS

3.Using the HTC Sync.
Once the software is running and you phone has been found and recognized by Windows you will notice the buttons in the software don't do anything. You will see Synchronize Now and Sync Manager. The is because you now have to tell the phone what to do which is different from most sync managers. On the phone there is a notification bar - the very top bar with the icons showing your network, wifi, battery etc. That's actually a pull-down. Touch and hold there and when you see the grey bar appear below it drag that down. Now you will see "USB connected" and "HTC Sync". You can also get to this by hitting the menu button and notifications. If you touch USB Connected you will to another menu which will "mount" the phone as a drive on your computer - this is how you will then drag and drop items to the SD card in the phone. Docs, music, videos whatever. If you hit the HTC Sync button you will really be connecting the phone to the computer for syncing. On the phone you will get a sync now menu and on the computer you will see your HTC Sync has changed with the prior two buttons lit up and another button added "Application Loader"

The first time you do this you will get the Sync Manager settings dialog asking what you want to sync and from where. Be sure to hit the properties button to set these selections as you want. I had a problem initially getting my Outlook calendar to sync. If this happens to you under properties deselect "default calendar folder" and set the folder yourself to calendar - mine had defaulted to contacts which is why the calendar didn't come in the first time.

Motorola Droid :: Sync Outlook Contacts And Calendar To Google

Nov 10, 2009

For people who want a fully automatic way to keep both Calendar & Contacts sync'd both ways between Outlook and Google Gmail / Calendar.

I've already done a lot of research on this topic as it is currently the most important item I've got to have working in order to keep the Droid. It seems like nobody really has a great solution yet, but there are some in the works. This thread can serve as a master list for Outlook sync software.

Here is what I've found so far:

CompanionLink $40 (released, sounds like the best currently available): Sync Microsoft Outlook with your Google account and your phone | CompanionLink

Missing-Sync $40(update: Released. Calendar syncing is now supported, but requires additional app installed on phone.): Keep your life in sync with The Missing Sync for Android from Mark/Space Appears to be the best all-in-one solution for syncing Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Media and more. Includes 'Proximity Sync' - syncs wirelessly & automatically w/ your computer.

gSyncit $15 (released, but lots of problems reported by users. EDIT: Some favorable reviews in this thread, may have improved reliability): http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/

SyncMyCal $25 (released): Share Outlook Calendar Free, Google Calendar Sync, Pocket Outlook Google Sync - SyncMyCal

Anybody using this?

OGG Sync $30/yr (Not yet released): OggSync - Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Outlook and Windows Mobile Device Sync (including Microsoft Office) Blog Archive Real... Native... Google Contact Sync — OggSync 4.0

Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook $50/yr (Requires Google Apps Premier or EDU Edition):[url]

Are there any good free apps out there that can sync Contacts? Tell me and I'll add them to the list.

Android :: Google Calendar To Sync With Outlook

Sep 17, 2010

I am currently using Google Calendar on my desktop to sync with Outlook, strictly as a "backup" for my Outlook calendar, in case something were to happen and I needed a backup of my Outlook Calendar. I tried using Google Sync/Calendar on my Droid Incredible but had some problems and decided to go back to using HTC sync. Since that time, I have hard reset my phone but am now having problems with some appts showing up in duplicate on my Outlook calendar, My Google calendar and on my phone.

Even though I am only using HTC Sync on my phone and only using Google Calendar/Sync on my desktop, could this be the reason for these duplicates in all 3 places? Do I need to stop using Google calendar/Google sync with my Outlook to prevent this from happening further? Also, the only reason I stopped using Google Calendar for my Droid was that it seems you cannot keep more than a month or so worth of past appt's in your calendar and I need to go back at least a year for work. Does anyone else find this limitation or anything else about Google Calendar annoying and limiting?

Android :: What Outlook Sync Options For HTC Evo BESIDES Google?

Syncing over the air via Google is out of the question because Google taints my work data is several ways. Not to mention that notes and tasks aren't supported by the Google OTA sync.I tried CompanionLink but it does not work with my Outlook system. It hangs up halfway through, and the troubleshooting says that it is likely a "corrupt" record in my calendar. "Calendar Record 22" whatever the f*ck that is referencing in Outlook.SO. Do I have any other options for syncing my memos, contacts, and notes from Outlook to the phone? Please say yes.

Android :: Sync Blackberry To Google Contact W/o Outlook

Aug 26, 2010

I am just putting it out there because I have never used any type of sync to get contacts from one phone to another.I simply let my my providers use their CellBrite machine to move from my old device to the new one. I don't use outlook although I might start. Point is I was truly starting at ground zero and the following post was to the point and detailed enough not to assume you had done this.It will be common knowledge for a lot, but for the rest of us very helpful. Have a great day fellow Droidians.Sync from Blackberry to CSV to GMail / G1 without Outlook. Here's a procedure to export contacts from a Blackberry and import into the G1 / Android using a CSV file and GMail Import, without using Outlook or Google Sync (I don't use Outlook, and had read about limitations/problems with Google Sync for Blackberry). This initially works best when you have a GMail account with maybe some but not all of the same contacts as are in your Blackberry, and with your G1 phone contacts relatively empty (or cleared) to avoid duplicating contacts.

Basically, you create a CSV file using Blackberry Manager (free download from T-mobile, etc.,), edit it using Excel or other spreadsheet program to change the heading names, import the resulting CSV file into the Gmail, then sync it directly into the G1. There are a few tricks, but the result is your contacts will be displayed exactly as you want them. The Export to CSV from Blackberry Manager (BBM) and the import of CSVs into GMail were not intuitive (at least not to me ;-), nor well documented anywhere I found. Here is how I did it using a T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl 8120, BBM vers 4.6 for Win XP, GMail as of 17-Nov-09, and T-Mobile G1 (Android 1.6)

Android : Sync MS Exchange Outlook Calendar To Nexus One WITHOUT Google Pc App?

Jan 6, 2010

So I am a proud owner of a brand new Nexus One. I love it, but have hit a small hitch.

I am previously an iphone user and got quite a lot of use out of syncing my work (exchange) calendar onto my iphone and using it on the go to keep track of meetings and such.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this is native functionality in Android 2.1? I was able to set up my work email account with active sync, and that works fine... but when I look in the Accounts area of settings and select my work email, there is no option to sync Calendar.

I have read that you can use the google calendar desktop application to sync your outlook (via plugin) to your google calendar, which the Android device could then pull down... unfortunately, like many users in a professional environment, the IT group here refuses to give me admin privileges on my work computer. I tried installing the google calendar app into a non-protected directory, but when it tries to activate the Outlook plugin it simply fails with an error listed as 1008. Upon looking that up, it of course says it is user privileges related.

In addition, if my work PC is off, I wouldn't get those new meetings pushed to my device anyway... so that is a big hassle as well.

Is there a free way to get this done WITHOUT the google calendar desktop app? I have all the account info I need (hell, I already set this up many times on my iphone over the years)...

EDIT: Also I would like to state that I don't want a separate calendar app... I want to use the base Android one. I'm fine with getting an app to enable that, but I don't really want to have 2 different calendar apps to go through...

HTC Hero :: Outlook Syncing With Google

Mar 6, 2010

I've come to see the light and made the move last weekend away from windows mobile to the Hero...now I'm ready to embrace the cloud.I use Outlook at home which was straight forward to keep in sync on my windows mobile device.I'm keen to keep using Outlook so my goal is to sync my calendar, contacts and tasks with my google apps account which would then be accessible to the Hero. After countless hours research and testing I settled on the following setup:

- Home PC sync's outlook calendar to google calendar via googles calendar sync which is then linked to my Hero;

- Home PC sync's outlook contacts to my Hero via HTC Sync.

I haven't devised a method for tasks yet and as for notes I prefer to keep them in outlook only. This setup has its limitations as HTC Sync sets the contacts to type "phone" which means they don't get uploaded to google. Furthermore, I've discovered that Google in their wisdom automatically creates contacts on your behalf based on people you email and this feature to my knowledge cannot be deactivated...so I'm questioning the merrits of putting my contacts into google if I'm going to be bring down contacts I never created.I'm keen to hear from others who use outlook and no doubt have more andriod/google experience to get a feel for how they sync up.
