Is there any easy (preferably free) way that I can backup/sync my DCIM (pictures) to the "cloud"?
I probably don't need something that does it automatically. I think doing it on-demand when I want to would be fine.
I almost never need to connect my phone to the PC anymore, so I'd really love a way to safely backup the pictures without having to do so.

I'm basically looking for an app, that can provide syncronisation between a folder on my device, and a folder on <insert cloud storage here>. I'm personally trying to migrate away from Dropbox, of which I've been a heavy user for many years. But in the light of the recent NSA gate, I thought I'd take a look what else is out there. I've chosen MEGA, as they provide (on paper) the security I like, and enough storage for my cloud-storage-needs.
I've been using Dropbox to automatically store the images I've taken with my phone camera and I take a backup of my texts every night at 2pm, which is also, automagically, uploaded to Dropbox. The official MEGA app takes care of the first, but the latter is taken care of within the backup app itself. It can be disabled, though.
I've looked for sync apps, but neither those or apps like Helium doesn't support MEGA.
Looking through my DCIM folder I find that under .thumbnails I have 200+ files each 50.00K that seem to be tied to browsing.
Do I really need them and can I setup my Desire to auto delete them if not required?
I am developing an app which uses the phone's default camera application to capture an image and then allow the user to perform some basic editing.I want the image captured to be saved in a location that is consistent with the stock camera application. Can I use the DCIM folder and assume all phones will use that location?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm looking for sumthin that would when taking a picture, save a copy of it in the normal DCIM folder, BUT also save a copy in another subdirectory... so essentially ill have 2 of them. the current camera i take a picture, then have to go through my sd card with ES file explorer and copy/paste into the backup directory. ive heard good things about "my backup pro"... but what can i do wit hthis. if i used that app would it .zip folder all my media so i could essentially just take the zip off and put it onto the media hard drive in house.

I am trying to set up custom icons and was following the instructions on the tips and tricks but on my SDcard i do not see the folder "dcim". any reason why? what do i need to do to see this folder?
I'm having problems trying to use files after moving them.
Example:
I took a bunch of pictures at an event, the created a folder for that event and moved the pictures into it. I can still open the pictures one at a tiem by navigsting too them, but the galleary app still shows the thumbs, but cannot find them.
Example 2:
I downloaded an mp3 for a ring tone, and while in the downloads folder the music player found it and I was able to set it at a ring tone. But I tried to create a ringtones folder, and then music could not find it, and just playing it by opening the file would not allow me to set a ring tone.
So how does this work? I have seen references here to folders called Media and ring tones, but I see nothing like that in the file system on my phone. Where does one put music if they want to actually use the music player?
Is the DCIM folder the ONLY one that works with the photo gallery? Is the Downloads folder the ONLY one that works with the music player?
Everything is in the title... How to extract a picture photo from a MMS ? Pressing screen on the picture only ask for 1) use for a contact 2) use for the screen picture. How can I "save it" in my DCIM folder ?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am currently using SMS Backup+ to backup my messages. It works great but it does not restore MMS messages. Any app that backs up to a cloud service and restores everything including all MMS with the associated pictures, files, videos, etc.

I am a life long (so far but not for long!) WinMo user because up until now (2.2 release of Froyo) I have always assumed Android wasn't as elegant, capable, and smooth as Windows (YES, I WAS WRONG).So now that I'm ready to make the switch... does Android offer any service, through my Google log-in perhaps, to back up all my contacts to the cloud (with pictures and files as well, or is the data limited) I am with Verizon and have had this sluggish Touch Pro 2 for far too long, and have an annual upgrade I'm either going to put to use on with the Droid 2, or the X!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't quite know where to place this, but I have Rom toolbox pro and I want everything backed up, so when I do a system reset, I get everything back. I can backup phone data, but I don't see an option to back it up on dropbox. Am I overlooking something?
Oh, also, can I only back up app data to the cloud, and not the entire app? I'll just download it when I need it, but, I'd like the app settings on the cloud.
I enabled TB to sync to Dropbox this morning and it's at 78% after about 3 hours. I'd like to sync to the cloud regularly, but I can't afford half a day to do so. If after the initial backup will it only upload changes or does it upload all the backed up files each time?

Of the 2GB dataplan that AT&T automatically added once I plugged my SIM card in, I've only racked up 50MB of data for the whole billing period (which ends in a couple days). I like Android but don't need 3G or Internet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was running out of space on internal SD on my Samsung Galaxy S3, so I deleted the CWM backups (I thought I did) and that gave me back to 7GB of free space.
Ran the CWM backup again, but now, the only backup I can find is at mnt/sdcard/clockworkmmod/backup/1970-01-07.06.00.46. All the files in that folder are dated 1970 as well.
Free space went down to 4.xGB, so there is a backup somewhere (and the screen messages seemed normal as it ran).
The previous backup folders I deleted had the date of the backup as the first part of the filename, e.g. 2013-05-17.xxxxx. Is this 1970 one I am seeing my new backup? Why is it a 1970 date?
is there any way to get CWM to store the backup folder on extsd and restore from there?
After you get done doing a nandroid backup, and you go in with an application like Astro, make sure there aren't any spaces in the folder name. Nandroid does not like that. Took a backup, tried a different ROM, didn't like it so went to go and restore my backup, wouldn't restore. It wouldn't get by the MD5 sum check. I just happened to notice there was a space in the name, mounted the memory card, removed the space, rebooted back into recovery and attempted to to the restore again, and success. Just a little tidbit of information I ran into first hand.

I want to know if I can move the backup folder from my phone to my PC (due to the complete erase that'll happen eventually), and then move it back. Will my phone recognize the backup as long as I use the same app to restore and have TWRP installed?

However, at one point the backup failed due to insufficient space on my internal card, and now the phone keeps warning me that the phone is full. However - and here's my stupid problem - I don't remember which of the two backup programs I used when this happened, and however I search the card (using Root explorer) I'm unable to find ANY folder named backup, twrp, clockworkmod or anything comparable. Now, the files MUST be on the card somewhere, considering used storage jumped with about 4,5gb. before and after this incident. Where such files might be hidden?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI backed up all the system and user apps before installing the custom ROM CynaogenMod 10. I restored the user apps and it worked fine. Then I tried restoring the system apps and I had to choose to restore from either XML or system image. I chose system image, rebooted and the phone kept restarting. I then tried using the XML file to restore system files. Again the same problem; the phone kept restarting.
Out of the backed up system files, the most important one for me is the contacts. Is there any way I can restore only the contacts. I have the following files in the backup folder pertaining to contacts.
1) com.android.providers.contacts-1.properties
2) com.android.providers.contacts-1.tar.gz
3) com.android.providers.contacts-1.odex.gz
4) com.android.providers.contacts-1.apk.gz
It there anywhere to sync all sub folder listed in my exchange directory ? i can go under each sub folder and do a refresh, but the manual process is very tedious.

So i'm wondering if there's an app that will automatically sync a folder on my phone and tablet together?
ie.. lets say i take a pic or record a video with my phone, can some app automatically sync that folder to my tablet?
I have an LG Ally and all my contacts are pretty much loaded on my gmail account, but i have backup assistant installed because the VZ guy added it to get all my contacts from my Env2 onto my new android phone.
My question is how do i get all of my contacts that are now synced with gmail BACK to backup assistant? it's sounds kind of silly but i want to make sure that all my contacts will be there for me in case i have to go back to my Env2 or another phone that does not support google sync.
I'm trying to figure this out. I bought Titanium Backup today just because one of the features it offered was syncing with Dropbox. It says it's an experimental feature which I take to mean buggy as hell, but I'm willing to try it out. I can't figure out how to set it up though. I've dug through all the settings and it's possible I'm missing something completely, but I don't know where. Can anyone walk me through how to do this? Being able to sync my backups to the cloud is a huge thing for me.
