Android :: Computer Vision And AR Libraries Availabe For Droid?
Mar 27, 2010
I am starting out as an Android Developer, and I would like to know if there are any Computer vision libraries or Augmented Reality libraries for the Android SDK, as I am planning to use these libraries for a mobile app.
I have read that if I download the NDK, I might be able to "import/use" the C openCV, and ARtoolkit libraries, but I am wondering if this is possible, or if there is a better and easier way of using these tools.
Android apps are programmed in Java, yet OpenCV & ARtoolkit use C/C++. Is there any way to use these libraries?

"It's not limited to Android devices, but it seems that increasingly Android more than other platforms is shipping with the worst mobile bloatware. It's a bad trend that's going to lead to consumer backlash and it's destroying the credibility of Google's Android vision."

I am looking for an app that might let you record or see in the dark like night vision ( not the fake app ) A few of us are gonna play in the dark with a fun board we all know and some think that is a very creepy and we see if we can see what happens on camera . Any apps out there for this ?

I'm trying to build a project in Android 1.5 that references another Android (library) project compiled against Android 1.5 and I keep seeing this error in the Console in Eclipse:
Target 'Android 1.5' does not support building project with libraries.
I'm running Eclipse 3.5, and version 0.9.7 of the ADT.
I followed the instructions here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/eclipse-adt.html
What gives?

I followed all the instructions on importing libraries into eclipse on the android guides, and have had no successes. It just fails to import.
Can some one point me in the right direction with this?

Is there any Java validator libraries i can use to validate text input from an android app?
i know that in spring there are validators for various different types such as checking if a value is a int, if a value is a valid email, etc etc.
Anything similar in core Java or even android?
cheers in advance. i don't want to re-invent the wheel if its already been implemented. i could always sue Java reg expressions to construct my own ones but was wondering if their was one done specifically for email formats.

Yes, I tried cleaning the USB port, both on the computer and the device. Yes, I've connected the device to multiple computers. Yes, I've power cycled both the device and the computer.
No, it didn't work.

Surface flinger turns off all pixels except for certain colors on OLED displays. Turning on only the red display results in a MUCH increased battery life. Looks like something to be included as an option in new Roms & such.

Is there a setting, or an app, to turn the display red?
I do a lot of science-type stuff (astronomy), and also photograph at night. I used a red-tinted flashlight, so as to not ruin my night vision. I would love to be able to use my phone while shooting, or doing astronomy stuff out in the dark, and not have bright white glow from the phone.

I have installed Google Music, which I would like to use to sync/listen to music. My problem is that externally controlling playback (play/pause/skip) does not automatically control Google Music, but the stock Gingerbread Music player.
Of course, from within the Google Music app itself it works, but external control like from the CyanogenMod lock screen widget or from Bluetooth AVRCP commands it always starts playing on the stock player.
It actually works after I launch Google Music once manually. It seems to control the last used/active app automatically, which is good. But when there's nothing running, it defaults to the stock player.
Is there a way to change that? It's annoying especially with Bluetooth AVRCP and A2DP in the car..

After updating from stock 2.3.3 To Gen.Y Vision X ROM, callers faced some terrible echo when speaking with me. I updated Radio to one suggested and it was fixed. Soon after this update speaker in my phone failed. So I have 2 questions. Could that failure be caused by radio firmware? How should I choose radio software to flash?
After getting my phone fixed (not without troubles, because device is rooted, and I didn't clean it up properly) I didn't flashed new radio yet. I did flashed latest Gen'Y Vision X ROM. May I flash radio after ROM without any problems, or should I flash Radio and than ROM?

I have the following issue:
My old phone is a rooted htc vision (android 2.3). I want to transfer app data (savegames, settings, whatsapp verification, etc...) to my new phone which is an unrooted nexus 5.
I have titanium backups of my 2.3 apps but i can't use them on my nexus 5 as it is not rooted.
Is there a way to use the titanium backup files with helium (which works without root)?!
Or do i have any other opportunity to get the existing app data from the old phone to the new one without rooting the nexus?

I have probably bricked my Huawei Vision by rewriting boot image.
However, I can connect* it to PC and it sees my phone as "Huawei Handset" (same with Windows and Linux). But Windows misses its drivers (non-bricked phone worked); Linux seems to work. No OS can connect to it using default (downloaded) ADB, nor Fastboot, nor SoftwareUpdateTool.
Its PCI ID is 12d1:c002.
How could I reflash it? I would prefer the ways without disassembling the phone.
How to boot the phone, so you can connect it to PC:
1. turn off my phone completely (vol up + power for 10 seconds - release power for a seconds and repeat it once again)
2. prepare USB cable, so you can connect it in few seconds
3. hold vol down + power and after ~1s, connect USB cable (still hold vol down)
4. when Huawei logo appears, release both buttons - your phone is connected now

I was really excited today when I saw the Tools r7 and ADT 0.9.8 were available and the latter had this note;
Fixes problems with handling of library project names that contain characters that are incompatible with the Eclipse path variable. Now properly sets up the link between the main project and the library project.
I create the library (foolib - no spaces, no caps, no punctuation). So far so good. I go to the main project, go to preferences --> Android. In the library box I add the new library. It appears. I press Apply. I press OK.
Nothing happens.
I return to the preferences, the library is no longer there JUST LIKE BEFORE.

I looked around for info on this in the group but couldn't find any... so far in my OpenGL programming I've just done everything directly, but I was curious if anyone had written any "wrapper" libraries for it besides min3d. Min3d is great (or is getting there) but it's GPL'd, making it unsuitable for a commercial product (if my understanding of the license is correct).

We have been using gdbserver to debug our JNI code as follows. We have been less than successful -- breakpoints do not always get activated, sometimes we get SIGILL, and we seldom ever get a useful stack when the debugging stops on SIGSEGV, sometimes the program dies with SIGTRAP!!!
We have occasionally been able to have debug sessions with s/n, but since pretty much every SEGV has resulted in either a damaged stack, or at least, gdbserver can not find the stack, it's a pain.
Is there something we are missing? Is there some reason to use the 4.2.1 vs 4.3.1 toolchain? (Why are there two toolchains? I assume because of bugs in each that are fixed in the other... which bugs?)
We guessed that the "dalvik" process that we wanted to debug was app_process --- we found this out by looking at /proc/XXX/cmdline on our running activity.
This is what we do typically do(repo sync directory is in /build/m1 for me)
invoke:/build/m1/prebuilt/linux-x86/toolchain/arm-eabi-4.2.1/bin/arm-eabi- gdb
(some of us use -tui, some of us run it under Xemacs, etc.)
We then do:
CODE:..........
We then start our activity, adb shell, discover the PID of the activity, discover the IP of the phone with "netcfg", and:
app_15 1815 49 107468 15744 ffffffff afe0d4a4 S org.credil.thomas_watson.videophoneservice
# gdbserver 0.0.0.0:1234 --attach 1815 Attached; pid = 1815 Listening on port 1234 Remote debugging from host 132.213.238.4
(gdb) target remote 132.213.236.179:1234
This is with a physical device. With an emulator, one has to, of course, run the adb forward stuff. (Too bad that doesn't work with a real device too, as then I would not need to run gdb over the wireless)
Program terminated with signal SIGKILL, Killed. The program no longer exists. (btw, an annoyance about googlegroups is that it seems that it looks at my SMTP from header, rather than From:... This basically means that I can not post from gmane.org via NNTP, which is a shame. Is there a secret NNTP access on googlegroups.com, I wonder?)

I'm building an app where I want to architect the app layer separately from the service layer (not android services). So I'll create a service interface(the apis) and then create a class(es) that implement that service interface. Inside the android application layer, I want to code to just that service interface. I think this is similar to how the google maps apis works. the api interface and stubs are in the framework, then each device actually provides the implementation. I don't need to go that far, but I am wondering how I package this up. One, where would I put these interfaces, so I can code to them in the app layer (like Activities). Second, how do I tell Android where the implementing classes are? I'm guessing this is somewhere in the manifest? For now I think I would probably just build the service implementation with the application source code, if that's easier. Eventually I'd like to break that out and drop it in as a 3rd-party jar.

With the NDK I can wrap a native library so I can call the methods from Java and package that library into my application.
Say I want to package a custom version of SQLite, is there any way to override the system library for SQLite, so I dont have to reimplement the SQLiteDatabase class?

I'm working on a project with a group that is using Eclipse, but I'm using Netbeans. Up until today this wasn't an issue. When updating from the repo they have added some source code as a library under a directory called /lib-src. When I try to compile the code I get an error that it can't find certain packages... these are the packages under /lib-src.
Using NetBeans I can add the library as a folder so now the references to those packages are happy. However, I'm getting this new error when compiling:
UNEXPECTED TOP-LEVEL ERROR:
CODE:.........
I can include the build-impl.xml file if you need it, but I don't think that is main issue.
