Android :: Can Only Install 65MB Of Applications On Desire?
Apr 19, 2010
I've been keeping an eye on the amount of Internal Phone Storage space I have left as it's running very low (9MB) and I've noticed that if I install an application and then uninstall it not all of the space is freed up. I've tried rebooting and that does not help. I don't want to go down the path of do a factory reset and restoring my apps but I can't think of any other way round it.
I added up my installed applications and it only added up to 55MB. I've had to uninstall the recent updates to Maps and Facebook just to free up some space. I can't fit Google Earth on my phone, it's way too big. Does anyone know which folder on the phone applications are installed to? I've found the system apps in/system/app but I'd like to check to see if there's anything left behind from applications that I've uninstalled.

I follow the instruction to install my toy application, which ran well on my Mac.
1. Within Eclipse, I did "Android Tools-->Export Unsigned Application Package" to save MyApplication.apk into ~/workspace/MyApplication.apk.
2. Now Connect Your G1 Phone to your computer using USB cable. You need to install Drivers for this. Download Android USB drivers from here. This driver is required for adb to interface with an android G1 phone using USB cable.
3. Go to Android Settings/SD card & phone storage and disable Use for USB storage. You can enable it again later after you installed your third-party application.
4. Go to Settings/Application settings and enable Unknown sources.
5. adb install ~/workspace/MyApplication.apk
But this is the error I got: tools > ./adb install ~/Documents/workspace/MyApplication.apk 1644 KB/s (214695 bytes in 0.127s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/MyApplication.apk Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]

I'm sure that you all have already known AppBrain's Fast Web Installer which is able to programmatically install free applications in android market to the device.
How could it be possible ?

I've been hearing that with android you cannot install apps on an SD memory card? Does that mean you have to use the onboard memory of 512mb? That wont hold many apps AT ALL. If so that is a horrible choice by HTC to not incorporate a big storage and forget about the use of an SD card.

I need help installing applications that I downloaded from a friend. They are in the form of zipped files. Is there anyone that can help me. Possibly send me a link with directions on how to install.I searched for the thread but had no luck. First of all I downloaded the file and it is zipped. So i unzipped it and copied the unzipped files onto my sd card into an applications folder I had created. From there I opened the applications folder with Astro but I dont know where to go from here.

Has anyone installed an external app i.e. from an SD card on there Wildfire. If yes, which app did you use. One way to install an external app is through HTC sync, however considering that sync doesn't work with the Wildfire yet, I need to find another way to do this.

I have a stock Eris and the other day my sdcard went corrupted. I learned this from when I got the new swype beta email and went to download the .apk. It told me a sdcard was required (I had never taken the sdcard out of the phone to being with). Anyways I brought it to verizon and the guy said it was done and gave me a 16gb card (8 was in there previously). So now I was able to download the .apk file; however when I try to click on it to install it says I can't because there is not enough space on Phone.
Now I don't know how much for it is required. But I have 14gb on the card available and 25mg on the internal phone storage. Now since uninstalling swype and trying to download I haven't added any more apps that would take up additional space. I've actually uninstalled a few, so I should have more space than I did before this whole thing started.

I've unrooted from Bugless Beast v.4 to a stock 2.1 via How To: Unroot the Motorola Droid | TheUnlockr. So basically I used RSDLite and did the steps listed on that site. I used their .sbf file as well. Everything seems to work except one thing. I cant update or install Facebook, Maps, and Goggles. If you look at the comments in that link, you'll see that a couple of people have the same issue. It says "installation error". "Package file not signed correctly".
I unrooted because I need to send my phone in for a replacement and I'm not trying to void my warranty. When I go into about phone it says:
Firmware version: 2.1-update 1 (which is correct)
Baseband: C_01.3E.03P
Kernal: 2.6.26-omap1-gb5cd919
android-build@apa26 #1
Build: voles-userdebug 2.1-update1 ESE53 25914 test-keys

So I just bought a HTC Nexus Ones as my new Android phone. I've been preparing for this new phone, such as knowing that it's old, I'm going to flash a custom JellyBean ROM to it, ect. Anyways, I've been reading that you cannot install applications to the SD card of a Nexus One, only to the very small 512mb internal memory. I'm wondering what I need to do to be able to install all the apps and games I download and install to the SD card, so I do not run out of space.

Couple of days back I moved from a 910 to X10 with market app disabled as market is not available for UAE.I came to understand that if I want to install apps without market, I need a file manager like Astro. But then to install Astro, I need astro. The other alternative is to use the SDK. But the SDK route doesn't work, as the stock USB driver that comes with SDK does not support X10.

i have been unable to move/install apps to my sd card ever since changing to MIUI I'm not sure whether this is a problem with the ROM or not (i think i may have insalled applications to SD on a previous GB version of MIUI)
I am using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 with the latest MIUI based on 4.0.4. before MIUI i was on CM7 stable and i remember messing around with some settings there to try and get my phone to read music off the sd card as well as internal memory-(where all my downloaded music was going). I also may have done a dodgy partition on my old 32gb micro sd or some how partitioned my internal storage of my phone...
I have recently successfully partitioned my Sandisk 64gb micro SDXC to this tutorial...
[URL]...
when i go to move a 'moveable' app eg. Paypal through 'Link2Sd' it comes up with an error saying "pkg:/data/app/com.paypal.android.p2pmobile-1.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_CONTAINER_ERROR]
when i go to move a 'moveable' app through 'App 2 SD Pro' it says 'couldn't move app'
the following are my phones storage details...this last picture was taken before i partitioned my SD

I want to customize some built-in applications on android, for example Launcher or Contacts, etc. I've downloaded the source code and compile it by eclipse successfully. I go to the download section and the app says starting downloading and just stays at that. I have canceled and started again but no joy. Connected via Wireless connection and also tried mobile internet.

If I try to use my HTC Desire to test Apps I'm developing with Eclipse, then in the screen where I can choose the emulators and connected devices, it is only listed as unknown and a few question marks. I read that on Windows you need HTC Sync respectively the drivers in this program, but how can I solve this problem on Ubuntu?

I've decided to purchase my first non nokia phone, which will also be my first smart phone in the next couple of weeks! I just want to know, where do you get applications from? How easy is this phone to do things with? I've seen the thread "show us your homepages" and I haven't got a clue how any of this works. If there are any manuals I could read, please point me in the right direction.

Over the last couple of days I have noticed that some applications have started going straight to SD? I have not followed the procedure favored on here for forcing applications to SD (yet). So why are they doing it? Its not a problem as I was going to move them anyway.
