Can we set uses-permission tag from a java program?If yes,then how?
I know I can set DEBUG in Android's ADB by typing:
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag DEBUG
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to set debug for all my classes that do logging instead of having to type the above multiple times:
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag1 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag2 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag3 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag4 DEBUG
Something like:
adb shell setprop log.tag.* DEBUG
I'm using Eclipse for developing, but I'm currently setting the DEBUG through the command line adb.
Is there any built-in function available in java for removing contents (ex: white space) between XML tags: <student> <name>miya</name> <number>12</number> </student> I want to convert the above document as: <student><name>miya</name><number>12</number></student> by removing the white space?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to write an application for Android devices that interacts with the surface and I need to be able to have the Android device display Microsoft Surface Identity Tags. I was able to create a class to draw the Byte Tags using the Byte Tag documentation but all I could find for the Identity Tags was this MSDN documentation and it doesn't include any information about how to draw them. Can anyone point me to some documentation on how to generate Identity Tags programmatically?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my very simple app (based on the default Hello World app but with a button added) I try to open one of my phone's (a SE X10 Mini) preinstalled activities, like this:
Intent calendarIntent = new Intent();
calendarIntent.setClassName("com.sonyericsson.calendar","com.sonyericsson.calendar.dayview.DayActivity");
startActivity(calendarIntent);
However, it does not work, I get the following error in the log:

Is there anything I can do about this or is this type of code a no-no? When searching the web I see people changing the intent filters in what I assume is their own app, but I obviously cannot change anything in a preinstalled app.
I have had a problem with no matter what android phone I have. This has been doing it for quite some time but I dealt with it but last night I lost 12 GB of music so here it is:
Whenever I move music in these situations, it will erase all ID3 Tag information (Artist, Album, etc) and all it has is the file name. I had 2000 songs with artist names and all, but when moved it all became unknown artist. Here are the situations:
Galaxy S3: Moving Music from one folder to another (Like from a Download folder to my music folder on external SD). Or from moving music from internal to external or vice versa.
Optimus G: Moving music from one folder to another on the internal storage (Again, like from a download to music folder).
Evo 4G: Just moving from folder to folder.
All this is done with ES. File explorer. I tried other but they do it too. It can not be device specific because it happens on almost any android. All songs are in MP4/MP3 format and maybe some .wma.
I want to add <uses-permission> via programatically .I want to telephone number of the device.For that i need to access the phone state.But i need to add that permission only with Java code at runtime. Is it Possible to do so. (or) Can you suggest any alternative way to read the telephone number .?

For some reason the emulator tells me that the program is not installed "on this phone" when I try to run the program using the icon in the emulator. Which I find interesting considering that the console says it was installed successfully..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got Eclipse setup for Android/Java development and it seems to be working.
How do I add PHP development as well to the Eclipse installation?
Must I install Eclipse on a separate PC in order to do PHP dev ?
If I can add PHP to the Eclipse setup for Android/Java... where do I click to do it?
I have downloaded and installed every necessary component in order to start working with Android. The issue I am having is that in Command Prompt, anything I type in related to the Android SDK (for example: adb, or even just android) comes back with "Java was not found in your path". Now, I have changed all my PATH variables under "User" to the EXACT locations of where these folders are, but no dice. It keeps telling me to go and edit my PATH variables. Even running SDK Setup, gives me the same error, and tells me to add where Java was found (even though I have!).
I am starting to get really fed up with this, because Eclipse can't find the "jre" folder inside the Java JDK, either (that is, of course, until I copy the entire jre folder inside of the eclipse folder, or put eclipse inside of the JDK folder)...
I just know it shouldn't have to be this tedious to set everything up.
I am running Java JDK 1.6.0_21 (x64), Eclipse Helios (3.6) IDE for Java EE Dev., Android SDK Revision 6, all on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Something to note: I have not encountered any problems with Eclipse Helios and the ADT plugin as stated on the Android Developers website. I can use Eclipse and the SDK to create and run the"Hello, Android!" application on the emulators without issues. I just want to be able to run everything from the command prompt, too. Now, if I can only get my phone to be recognized after I get this resolved.
I have a normal Java application, normally, we start an Android application from a Main Activity, now I must start it from my application.

This app basically simulates a deck a cards, a player clicks a button to draw a card then based on the card thats drawn the player plays a drinking game (ie takes 1 drink, takes 2 drinks ect).
I have the main program in one java file, and the code that shuffles the card deck and puts the card sequence in an array in other java file. My problem is that whenever a class from the other java file (classicMode.java) is called from the main program (fubar.java), my android program crashes and gives the error : "The application Drinking Game - FUBAR (process com.games.dg) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Code...
I have created the following function for checking the connection status:
private void checkConnectionStatus() {
HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
try {
String url = "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8000/GaitLink/"
+ strSessionString + "/ConnectionStatus";
Log.d("phobos", "performing get " + url);
HttpGet method = new HttpGet(new URI(url));
HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(method);
if (response != null) {
String result = getResponse(response.getEntity());
...
When I shut down the server for testing the execution waits a long time at line
HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(method);
Does anyone know how to set the timeout in order to avoid waiting too long?
Could someone please suggest me a good/efficient way to communicate with the server. I could think of two options 1) Use http post methods to send data to a php script at the server which would later call the google api's written in another java program (jar)or use php to use google api's (if its possible) to find nearby restaurants and send the list back to client. 2) Use simple java socket programming. The server has a jar file that supports multi threading and it does the job of finding restaurants and sending the list.

I wonder if anyone knows whether the built in media player uses some kind of caching of mp3 files ID3 tag information, because after I change the tag of a file it doesn't show the updated data. Only after the phone restart, I guess after /sdcard remount, does it show correct tag info.

I need to generate a changelog of sorts between two Tags within a project controlled using git. Specifically the android source code. This list should include any files/directories/etc which have been edited, moved, renamed, deleted, created. and if you have a way to do this over the entire android source at once... even better.
