I want to know about the util Class used in Java. I am currently working on one Application in Android where I need to used a class from one file to another different file. I was told to import it like "import com.android.utli.(ClassName)" here the "com.android.util" is a package name.
Can I use thast class in my another file simply by importing the package along with the Class Name?

I have created an interface for java.awt.Point and put import java.awt.Point in my code. But when I do Point pos = new Point.
I get an error: cannot instantiate Point. Also if I do pos. I don't get x or y member variables. I could code my own Point class but I need to learn how to import stuff.
If I delete the interface for Point I get an error on import java.awt.Point. It says the import cannot be resolved.
When I try to edit project/res/main.xml using android layout editor in eclipse I get the error "Could not initialize class java.awt.font".

how do I call the value of input1 in Java and then perform a calculation on it?

My primary goal is to modify the webkit WebViewCore java class method so my android application uses my own WebView which derived from modified WebViewCore and acts as I wish. The problel is that WebViewCore and entire bunch of related classes is not part of public SDK.
So far I tried:
- replaced android.jar from SDK in my project with "full" version (framework.jar)
- copied entire webkit java classes from Android OS to my project and modified the method as I need.
- included in lib/armeabi the libwebcore.so and libchrome_net.so (these I grabbed from rooted phone which I gonna to use for experiments)
- compiled and created apk file with libs included (in the code java layer calls my own libs using System.loadLibrary(..))

How do I add PHP development as well to the Eclipse installation?
Must I install Eclipse on a separate PC in order to do PHP dev ?

I have downloaded and installed every necessary component in order to start working with Android. The issue I am having is that in Command Prompt, anything I type in related to the Android SDK (for example: adb, or even just android) comes back with "Java was not found in your path". Now, I have changed all my PATH variables under "User" to the EXACT locations of where these folders are, but no dice. It keeps telling me to go and edit my PATH variables. Even running SDK Setup, gives me the same error, and tells me to add where Java was found (even though I have!).
I am starting to get really fed up with this, because Eclipse can't find the "jre" folder inside the Java JDK, either (that is, of course, until I copy the entire jre folder inside of the eclipse folder, or put eclipse inside of the JDK folder)...
I just know it shouldn't have to be this tedious to set everything up.
I am running Java JDK 1.6.0_21 (x64), Eclipse Helios (3.6) IDE for Java EE Dev., Android SDK Revision 6, all on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Something to note: I have not encountered any problems with Eclipse Helios and the ADT plugin as stated on the Android Developers website. I can use Eclipse and the SDK to create and run the"Hello, Android!" application on the emulators without issues. I just want to be able to run everything from the command prompt, too. Now, if I can only get my phone to be recognized after I get this resolved.

I'm writing an android app that requires binding a JSON object into a domain entity with the keys from the JSON as instance variables. Since there are several domain entities, each with different instance variables that the JSON needs to bind to in the app, i'd like to write a method such as ths following: Loop through all the instance variables from the domain if a key exists in the JSON with the name of the instance variable, take the value for this key from the JSON and set the Domain's instance variable with this key name equal to this value. The reason i'm interested in the doing the binding from the class to the JSON is because if the JSON changes for some reason, I don't want it to break the app when the instance variable doesn't exist in the app's domain for a specific JSON key. Normally, this works fine. However, many times I find myself needing too preform an application using the outer class as a context. thusfar, I've used: parent.getContext(); to do this, but I would like to know, is that a bad idea? I can't really call: because it's not really a subclass, just an embedded one. So is there any better way, or is that considered cosure? Also, if it is the right way, what should I do if the embedded method doesn't have a parameter to get the outside class?
Hi, custom classes which are part of a framework, so nothing graphical. One of those (singleton) classes is a Logging class which send logs to my server. I noticed that even though I can call the classes methods in my service it actually won't be logging anything... In my specific example it's osmething like : Logger.getInstance().log("Whatever I want to Log"); Obviously the getInstance is a static method so it can be accessed from anywhere within my project right away.. I was wondering though why this method for example isn't getting called ? Also how do I debug a Service ? Btw I am using of IPC from one of my Activities which gets bound to the service and can start/stop the music for example...
