Android : Can't Install Swype / How To Fix?
Jan 7, 2010
I just got my Droid an hour ago! That means I don't really know what I'm going. I installed Astro. I downloaded the Sype Beta to my PC and unzipped the files. I copied the unzipped folder to my SD card. Astro finds the folder, but I can't figure out how to install it?!? I see the Astro options at the top, but install is not one of them. I'm sure the answer is obvious, but I'm blinded by my new toy right now.

May sound like a dumb question, but how do I install Swype? It's not on the Marketplace. I went to the web site of the company to do a manual install-no where to download it.

Googling around I found a beta download of Swype. The thing is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to install it. The instructions on the various pages I've found simply state "Transfer the package file to your SD card." Okay, great. So uh, how does one go about doing that? When I plug the Evo into my computer as a disk I'm not seeing any folders that look like they could be the SD card's storage. So how does one move files to it?

I need help installing "swype". I have received the email, I have downloaded the "swype installer", now what? I go and try to type an email or text but it is the same version that was already on the phone. Is there supposed to be a "swype" icon or app?

This is more of a preemptive post for anyone that comes into the same issue as I did.My Swype was not working, so I had to uninstall, run the installer again, put in my Swype beta information to login, downloaded the app again and it worked fine afterwards.Just don't panic if it happens to you too.

I'm using the MIUI v4 port I found here on XDA. Problem is, when I installed it I cannot use Swype, the install.apk crashes. Why is this?
if I can't get Swype, is there anyway to get more languages for input?

was able to install on another Froyo rom, no I don't remember which. How much room does SWYPE need? editing this in (from post below) to get it read by more eyes: I did uninstall a bunch of fluff I was thinking of getting rid of anyway.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed... my search did not find anything. I installed Swype beta on my Droid during the recent beta invitation, and it suddenly got to the point where it just won't function at all beyond swyping one word. Then it locks up. Although this has happened since installing GDE Home, Swype still locks up when used with GDE closed and running the default home. In general, GDE seems to slow my Droid, but I can't find an explanation for Swype not working. The android keyboard works well in its own right with GDE, but of course it sucks when you're used to Swyping. I'm out of ideas!

The latest Swype Beta version is 2.4.44.10912.t100, however my Fascinate shipped with 1.63.39.8794. Can I install the Swype beta alongside this pre-installed one or is it going to seriously mess something up?

I got an email this morning about the release of a new swype beta. I followed the directions and when I try to change inputs an error message pops up stating the screen resolution doesn't match. Anyone get this email and the error? I made sure I uninstalled my previous swype before installing the new one.

I signed up for the beta testing a while back. Got this link in an email update from Swype. You have to uninstall swype and the old installer first. Access it from your Android phone. https://beta.swype.com/android/get/

I've searched around and found various APK's for Swype but does anyone know which is the "official" one, or latest one, or whatever? I'm looking for the best one for the DInc.

Followed the instructions in http://developer.android.com/sdk/adding-components.html for adding 2.0 as components to an existing 1.6 SDK, from within Eclipse.
It didn't work. Not by a long shot. Instead, it got partway through and then said that C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 tempDocPackage.new01 couldn't be copied because of a lock, and similarly for PlatformPackage.new01.
It said to shut down running programs, but the only program running was Eclipse, which was needed to do the upgrade.
The cancel button was disabled, and the close box didn't work. Shutting down Eclipse killed it, but left C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 in a corrupted state. Restarting Eclipse showed the Android projects with errors, no SDK, and a disabled Android SDK and AVD Manager (which means no ability to rerun the install).
Shutting down Eclipse, renaming the corrupted SDK directory, unzipping 1.6 again into C:, and restarting Eclipse made it as if nothing had ever happened, which is good. But it is not possible to complete the install from Eclipse, which is bad.
The dialog says:
CODE:..............

When I run my application on a physical phone from within Eclipse, my Google MapView works perfectly. If export the app to an apk file and install it to the same phone from the command line with adb then the MapView comes up but shows only the Google logo and grid - no map tiles appear. I'm using a debug application key and a GMaps API key generated with that debug key. I've verified that this happens on both the Droid and N1 phones. The logcat looks identical in both the working and non-working cases - no obvious error messages.

Yes we have threads about this already but we still have not gotten an answer AND I think it's about time somebody at least explain what does this number actually MEAN. I'm getting frustrated with the lack of transparency on this.
My apps used to be around 56% active installs
VERY soon after I updated the apps to allow install to SDCARD (preferExternal), then the active install count started dropping like a rock. Now it's around 39% today for my main app.
My opinion is there is a bug in the SDCARD install feature somewhere that is not counting those installs. We know there already is a bug with home screen icons if you install to sdcard you will get a blank icon until the Home app restarts.

So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.

I've been really intrigued by Swype, when I heard someone say that they could text faster than they could talk using it. So I searched the market for it and there is no Swype in the market? Where can I even get it? I tried downloading an .apk file from Google, but it said my screen resolution wasn't the right size, so they must have different versions for different phones. I also found a trial one on the forums here but it was way expired apparently.
