View 8 RepliesI am having issues getting the 2 wifi tethering programs to work correctly. I just rooted for the firstt time today. Both programs start up correctly and allow me to enable to wifi tethering but I can't get any device to see the wifi connection they are creating. I have tried both scanning for the network and trying to manually connect to it by typing in the SSID but I can't get any device to see the network. I am using a Droid X with the official 2.2 update rooted.

I only have interest in rooting my phone if it's the only way to share internet with my Netbook. Wifi isn't all that important to me, and seeing as I've completely and utterly failed at doing the Unrevoked method for rooting... I'm hoping I won't actually have to root my phone after all.
Looking for reasons to purchase the full version. Just drove from SE VA to DC, and had the tether all the way up I95, without any problems.
Any reasons anyone can give me for purchasing the full $10 version?
I am using WiFi tether on my myTouch 3g. Randomly my computer will just disconnect from the WiFi even with 99% signal strength. It doesn't do this with any other WiFi connections just the one from my phone. About the phone, its the original myTouch 3g, running Cyanogen 5.0.7-DS-test5. I tried to do some searching online about this problem but couldn't find any thing for recent versions of WiFi Tether.

If I could hook up my G1 to a computer at the internet cafe that has a ASDL connection it would go much faster AND I would be able to do something else beside watch the yellow bar slooooooowly move. I am not in the USA. One guy said the best way is buy a Bluetooth drive that looks like a flash drive. Plug it in the PC and my G1 should get internet. Not sure. I think files would work but not sure about internet. If the cable won't work then why should bluetooth?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my first Android and love it after having used Win Mobile for years. However, there's one app I just can't seem to find.
I want something like MyMobiler (Windows Mobile - My Mobile)
Instead of accessing my PC desktop on my phone, I was able to FULLY access my phone desktop on my pc (i.e., I could completely operate my phone on my PC which allowed me to type and enter data faster and more accurately).
Does anyone know an app that'll do this (even a non-free app would be great).
I had grown so accustomed to using this application that I will now be lost if I can't find a suitable replacement.
We've been trying to reverse tether (using a SmartQ V5, android version 2.1) to another device that has an Internet connection we want to share. That is to say, the Android device is the client and needs to get access to the Internet through connecting to a Bluetooth PAN network.
We have so far been able to get root access on android, but have had no luck with bluetooth PAN. We found that bluetooth PAN isn't compiled natively in android (at least not in 2.1 or before), and to enable it you'd need to turn them on and compile the OS image yourself. Does this concur with others' understanding?
Has anyone had any luck in compiling an android OS or setting up PAN to do reverse-tethering with another device (say PC)?
I recently moved to an area that has limited internet choices which in turn makes for higher internet prices and longer contracts. A friend suggested a droid and tethering it using pdanet to my Mac. I use my internet primarily for browsing, sometimes I'd like to watch hulu or small pdf files through e-mail. Would this be a good option to consider or should I go with an internet connection? If I choose a droid, which one is the best one for tethering? I'm somewhat drawn to the ones with touch screens and no keyboards....but will listen to your reviews.
Supposedly verizon has a bandwidth limit of 5gb. Anyone know if that is monthly? How much is 5gb? Am I going to find myself a month out hating that I made the choice to rely on a droid for my primary internet source? Is there anything else I need to know about tethering a droid to my mac? Are there restrictions for OS X? Is there anything else I should know so I don't get the phone and hate myself later?
I have the original Droid. It is rooted with easy root application. I had originially installed 2.2 from a non-ota update site. Rooted my droid and installed wireless tether. It worked great. I then received the OTA update for 2.2 FRG22D. Now wireless tether won't start up. I also tried using Barnacle Wifi Tether and it is getting a permission issue. It won't prompt me to grant superuser permissions to this app. So I need help either getting wifi tether working or figuring out how to grant superuser permissions to Barnacle to get that working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying for weeks to try and tether my XBL with my Android. I have been trying it wireless type and wired. The wireless type I've been using the WiFi tether app along with the xbl WiFi. When I turn on the WiFi router on the XBL, the Droid tether shows up and connects just fine, however, It will not connect the profile to xbl. Any one have any ideas here ?
The other I've been trying to get to work is doing the wired route and by going into all my settings and changing them over like you would doing the open server deal. I dunno threw the properties and adding the XBL ports. Now the problem I have with this I can change just about every port to one another by port 2 and port 5. Port 2 needs to be 53 TCP / UCP < that one. When I switch to accept it tells me that I have the same ports being used. I've tried this method on a friends computer who is using Windows 7 and it works just fine changing ports wise.
I rooted my Eris and I am running KaosFroyo v37. I downloaded Wireless Tether, and its not working. Its broadcasting that it made an available wireless access point, but when I try to connect to it nothing happens. My computer wont link up to it. I know my WiFi card works because I have a working wireless access point where I live that I use every day with no issues. Its like my laptop sees the network, but wont associate with it. I tried using barnacle and it did the exact same thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe best WiFi/BT tether/hotspot app out there has just added support for the EVO 4G about half an hour ago. Of course, root is required but it's just one click away with unrevoked. Forget Sprint's $30 a month tether - this one is free and supported by the community. This is why I love Android. All info here:
Rooted EVO 4G Users Can Now Enjoy Unlimited Free WiFi/Bluetooth Tether (Hotspot) As Android-wifi-tether App Adds Support For EVO
Can "tethering" on the EVO realistically replace a home internet connection on a desktop computer? I have 2 computers at home that rely on AT&T DSL for the internet (which is really slow). If I get an EVO, can I easily drop my DSL and instead use the EVO "tethering" feature? Is it complicated to use? That is, I sometimes just want to quickly check a website, and if it's hard to set up every time I want to use the internet on my desktop, it won't be worth it. Does it cost extra to "tether" the EVO to a home desktop computer?
