View 3 Replies View RelatedCan "tethering" on the EVO realistically replace a home internet connection on a desktop computer? I have 2 computers at home that rely on AT&T DSL for the internet (which is really slow). If I get an EVO, can I easily drop my DSL and instead use the EVO "tethering" feature? Is it complicated to use? That is, I sometimes just want to quickly check a website, and if it's hard to set up every time I want to use the internet on my desktop, it won't be worth it. Does it cost extra to "tether" the EVO to a home desktop computer?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues getting the 2 wifi tethering programs to work correctly. I just rooted for the firstt time today. Both programs start up correctly and allow me to enable to wifi tethering but I can't get any device to see the wifi connection they are creating. I have tried both scanning for the network and trying to manually connect to it by typing in the SSID but I can't get any device to see the network. I am using a Droid X with the official 2.2 update rooted.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen connecting my Evo to a computer, there is an "Internet Sharing" option. I am curious to know, does this cost extra monthly? I know the wifi tether is the extra $30 a month, but will this charge me the same?
I only have interest in rooting my phone if it's the only way to share internet with my Netbook. Wifi isn't all that important to me, and seeing as I've completely and utterly failed at doing the Unrevoked method for rooting... I'm hoping I won't actually have to root my phone after all.
I have a Droid X with Verizon. If I enable the GPS and use GPS enabled apps, such as Google Maps, etc., am I charged by Verizon for this? Or is the Verizon Navigator the only GPS app that Verizon charges for? (i.e. does Verizon charge for the use of the GPS across the board, or only for the use of their GPS app?)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded an app called Google Sky Map. Will using this incur charges? I don't understand how all this works. In general, is there a way of telling what charges the use of an app will incur (ruling out the use of android-intuition and/or common sense)?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been reading the Terms of Service for the Google APIs, both Maps and AJAX APIs. I have questions regarding future consequences of using these APIs in mobile apps that get distributed, hopefully, to many thousands or millions of devices.
Both say that the services must be available for free, so I'm assuming that means you cannot charge a fee for an Android app that uses these services, unless you arrange something special with Google. Which appears to be Google Maps API Premier, an advanced service that uses a page-view-counter-based calculation to determine charges, and is not cheap. Which pretty much says you'd need to charge a subscription fee if you're going to charge at all. If you don't charge now and suddenly get hit with a bill from Google, your free app must remain free (according to Android Terms) so you're out of luck? I suppose it might be possible to include a Terms of Service with the application that says the user assumes all responsibility for any charges related to use of the Google APIs, but that doesn't seem likely to succeed. I think it would be difficult to manage. I also suppose that you could ask Google to block requests that use your API key until you can get a new version out with a fee attached.
Google also says they could charge for the use of the API in the future. This is stated specifically in the AJAX APIs doc, and indirectly in the Maps doc (Google can change the terms at any time). Since the API key that is used when calling APIs belongs to the Android developer, that tells me we could potentially be on the hook for Google charges. The Terms say that we can decide to stop using the APIs. Which is fairly easy when you're running a web site, much different when your application is deployed to thousands or millions of devices. Especially if you've distributed the application for free, and with an expiration date as required of later than October 22, 2033.
I'm nervous now about using Google APIs in Android apps and wondered if anyone else has thought about this. Should Google APIs be avoided? At least until developers have some legal protection?
I know that we have the option of purchasing an app and supposedly if you uninstall the app within 24hrs u will not be charged. However there are some apps that I would love to try like the keyboard apps and find what best suits me and return the others. So my question is has anybody done this and did you receive only charges for the ones you kept when your bill came? I had a friend who had left his phone with his girlfriend for a day and when he got his bill he was getting charged for game he did not order or ever play so it was a hassle (3hrs on the phone with sprint) to get the charges dropped as they were recurring charges every month, he dint have a problem with paying the initial download as that was his fault for leaving his phone with his girlfriend.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have purchased several apps through the Google market. Updating to Froyo required a system reset for me so the apps had to be reinstalled from the market. My google checkout and login ID are the same but Google charged me again for the apps and they showed up on my CC. Tried to resolve through google but gave up in frustration trying to find some way to dispute or rectify the situation. I disputed the charge through my CC but I have a feeling that is going to cause more trouble. Surely there is some way this is SUPPOSED to work and a planned way to rectify easily when it does not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering how many Bump Charges do you all do? I saw a post saying 3 times, and I did 3 times, but the fourth time, I am still not fully charged because the LED light still RED after I turn the phone off and plug the USB charger in.Another concern is that, people mentioned this is a software issue, but I am bump charging the phone while it is OFF, so wouldn't this being a software issue since I do not have the phone turned ON?

Any reasons anyone can give me for purchasing the full $10 version?
I forget my original charger at home so i got a new one from at&t (didn't find t-mobile), generic one, with the same connector and the guy from the store said it will work fine with captivate (that should be the same as the Vibrant). when i tried to use it, it charged my phone but the whole interface was laggy and didn't get half of my touch pressing (the other half did something else like pressing the wrong spot).
anyway i thought its a bad charger so i get a new one from RadioShack... that do the SAME problem.
then i tried some electric shop that told me theres a difference between this chargers and i need to get the Palm Pre charger and not Motorola/BlackBerry, but still both of them did the same problem (again, all of this stores got only third-party "generic" chargers and not originals). anyway i got home and charged with the original usb wall adapter and usb cable that came in the box.
If I did not get the monthly Hotspot charge when i signed up and did use the hotspot for an emergency connection, what is Verizons rate on that? All I can find on their site is what the per MB charge after the %GB you get with the monthly hotspot plan.
Once I get more comfortable with it, I'll root and would not have this worry. But for now, I'd like to know what it would cost as a pay per use charge?
When she tries to send a picture it says "Converting message to MMS" (I told her that was normal lol) "Charges may apply."...THIS part, the "Charges may apply" part, is the part I am stuck on. I've never seen this on mine. We have the same plan I think, unlimited texting and calling and such...she is sending the picture to a Verizon phone...I mean I told her it is probably just a "btw, it COULD charge you" sorta thing and that it more than likely won't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI looked for a while on this because I'm sure someone else already asked it but does your droid charge super slow on every single charger besides the one it came with?
No matter which charger I use (besides the stock one) it charges incredibly slow. Hooked up to my computer, other wall chargers and the slowest one is my car charger. I even have a couple wall chargers that just straight up make my phone start doing weird stuff. Like I'm randomly hitting things on the screen.
Just got my Motorola Droid about 9 hours ago, and as soon as I got home I plugged it in, since it had roughly 60% charge. It has been plugged in since then, and has said "Charging (90%)" on the lock screen ever since, and the about screen confirms that the battery is charged to 90%.
I searched all over, but it appears no one else is having this issue. Should I return to Best Buy (I hate them, but I'd rather go there than wait for a mail in rebate, or for the phone to ship) and get a replacement?
I put the phone on the charger right before I went to bed (11 PM), and by 12:30 AM when I went to settings and checked the status it said it was 100%, I decided to leave it on the charger anyway cause I have been getting really bad battery life and this morning when I woke up at 7 AM the phone was down to 70% but charging and hit 100% by 8 AM.
What I don't understand is why did the battery charge to 100% and then use the battery when it was still connected to the charger? Shouldn't it just stay at 100%?
In addition, when I took the phone off the charger at 8 AM and it was 100%, the phone died by 2 PM, and I only sent about 20 text messages.
I am sending my HTC Hero (Orange UK) back to HTC for them to tinker with it as it has had absolutely terrible reception for pretty much the entire time that i have owned it.
I had been waiting with each new OS to see if the problem would be fixed. The problem is that the signal fluctuates wildly without manipulating the phone, it will cut out whilst i am on the phone and just resting it on a table it will lose signal for perhaps a few minutes each half hour.
Spoke to Orange on the phone and they said to send it in for repairs to HTC.
Now, my phone has a two cosmetic bumps on it - one graze on the top corner and a tiny gouge on the bottom corner. These are purely cosmetic and I am sure that these have nothing to do with the problem, as it existed before those accidents.
I guess what I am looking for are your experiences with HTC repairs - are they the sort of firm who look for any excuse to claim that you caused the damage and void your warranty?
If they do claim that the signal problem is my fault, is the burden on me to prove that I did not cause it, or them to prove that I did?
