Android :: Automatically Download Gmail Images
Oct 11, 2010
Now I know this seems like a mind-numbingly simple thing to do, but is there a modified Gmail application out there that automatically downloads images contained in an email?I hate having to click the 'show pictures' every time I'd like to see an image..

is there a way to set up my email (not gmail) to only download automatically over wifi? I receive a lot of work emails and it uses data unnecessarily when it downloads on my phone when I am at work. Ideal will be to only download when I change the setting. Don't want to turn of data completely because then all the other apps stop working too (WhatsApp, facebook etc.)

This is a really weird issue. I'm trying to download images from DeviantArt to use for wallpapers and the like on my HTC Desire but they seem to be quality controlled on the download. For example, if I download an image on PC which is 700k and then download the same image on my phone it comes in at 80k and there's noticable artifacts. I've tried two browsers (the default one and SkyFire) and it's doing the same thing in both.

I have a question regarding 9 patch images. Is it possible to download 9 patch png files from a webserver then display it as a background of a layout while keeping the information inside the file like the stretchable pixel? I have tried using a 9 patch image coming from the resource drawable directory of my project and it displays correctly...stretching only those pixels marked as stretchable but when I tried to download a 9 patch image from my web server then the application will use the downloaded 9 patch image the stretchable pixels does not take effect..i mean instead of stretching only those pixels that where marked as stretchable it stretched the whole image.

TrekBuddy is very good, but it produces cache for rmaps and many other apps, but not for Google Maps.So I wonder if there is a tool which can do this, or convert the cache of TrekBuddy to the cache of Google Maps, which can be used by android cell phones?

I have 2 gmail (apps) accounts on my phone. The first account: I want to know when I get an email. The second account: I don't want to know when I get an email - but still want, for checking and sending only when I look at the account. Is it possible to disable notification on one account and keep the other?I've got a Sony Xperia X10 Mini Pro and have waited a looooong time to get 2.1, JUST for the multi email accounts capability - now that I've got it, I'm not liking it because I get disturbed when I get email on the second account.

I'm trying to make an app in which I download some images, and then display then. From my understanding, images to be displayed need to be in the drawable folder and R.java, but I can't update the latter while the app is running.
how to go about adding images that I get while the app is in use?

Android does not provide an Exif Reader or Exif Writer in its SDK (it has a native implemenation, though, but that API is private).
The Sanselan library, however, does provide a full fledged set of functionality for reading and writing Exif metadata.
However, Sanselan pur sang cannot be included in an Android Project. It references classes and packages that do not exist under the current version of Android (e.g. ImageIO).
Therefore, I made a quick cut of Sanselan 0.97, cutting out all the classes that prevent it from being used on the Android platform. It is a quick cut and it may have some issues. However, I got its exif reading and writing to work for my application and it looks like its working quite well. Reading and writing raw image-data is, however, not possible in this cut. This has been cut out.

My Gmail App has stopped automatically notifying me of new emails. I can manually sync and get the emails but not automatically.I think I may have accidentally stopped a running service that has caused Gmail to stop automatically syncing my emails. My calendar and contacts automatically sync just not email.I'm thinking my only option is to reset back to factory settings.

I bought the Nexus One last sunday. I'm very pleased with how the phone works. On monday though, I started noticing notifications popping up from the Android Market. It said some applications failed to download. The only app I downloaded so far was Google Earth. Now every now and then it keeps feeding me with these notifications... I've installed an app killer to shut down the Android Market, but after a while it turns back on by itself.

I had the issue of Gmail not syncing on my Dx2. For that matter, nothing related to Google would sync! I could do it manually, but it would not do it automatically. I also didn't have any check boxes next to the individual items in the gmail settings!
What I found is that the Motorola Power widget controls ALL sync features! Almost like a main power switch for sync. Make sure you have the sync feature on this widget turned on! As soon as I turned it on, everything worked like it's supposed to.
I am not saying that this is the answer to everyone's issue, but it worked for me! I was on the phone with VZW for about an hour trying to figure this out and we were about to do a factory reset and Josh suggested that we check this..... IT WORKED!

Trying to set myself up with a nice wallpaper, so I went to interfacelift.com, found an image w/ 800x480 resolution (this is correct for the Dinc, right?), and once i bring up the image in my browser, I long tap, click save image, and then it just says download unsuccessful, and nothing else. I also tried finding an option for "set as wallpaper" but couldn't find anything.

I always like to have all my apps updated to the latest release and because of this I go to the Market->Downloads and checks for available updates about four times a day. Usually there's always updates sitting there. The hassle is when there's so many to go through them all and and install them.
Is there any app out there that can go through and constantly check for updates and install them automatically?
If not then I'm hoping someone can make one. It seems like a pretty simple thing to make. Then again I'm not a Dev so what do I know?

Trying to get to the bottom of Android bug 2507, wherein I can only see boxes with blue question marks in lieu of embedded images in the native Gmail app (after hitting the "show pictures" button).
I was able to see the images in Android 1.5, but can't now in Android 2.1.I can still see attached images, just not those embedded in the body, like an HTML newsletter from Best Buy or whatever.
If you can't see embedded images, please click the star for this bug: Issue 2507 - android - Gmail doesn't display images - Project Hosting on Google Code

So only because I haven't taken the time to figure it out, I still have two mail apps. The gmail app and the mail widget. For some reason, when I get mail it will from time to time show up in the email app. It always shows up in gmail, but every now and then, it will also show up in the mail widget. The question I have is, why will HTML mail only show the attachments/pictures in the mail widget. The same email will not display in gmail. How can I get gmail to show HTML images?

My Gmail account used to automatically update on my phone as soon as I would get a message. Now it seems like I have to go in and manually click "refresh" under settings to get it to update. Can anyone tell me how to set it up so your gmail inbox will update automatically once you receive a message?

I've got the weirdest problem ever with my HTC Hero. The gmail application does not refresh automatically so as to fetch incoming e-mail. Even worse, it doesn't even do that when I manually do that (menu --> refresh)There is one situation: If I change one of the settings for Labels ("description = select which labels are syncronised") it does fetch e-mail from my inbox, but only if I manually refresh. It doesn't make any sense that my gmail application can only fetch new mails after a (random) modifcation in my settings. I would like my gmail to refresh .... well.. as often as possible and automatically, since I will not know beforehand when someone has sent me a mail.
For the moment my label settings are as follows:days for syncronisation: 1 day
labels
inbox: syncronise for all items
with star: syncronise for all items
eehh. well actually all my folders are "syncronise for all items"

Every time I send an e-mail whether on my Hero or just regular Gmail on my computer, that e-mail address gets added to my contact list. This is very frustrating as I just went through and deleted about 150 different email addresses I don't need including about 75-100 craigslist ads.
