I just tried to update my Xperia x10 to Android 2.1 I followed all the instructions, but after the update my phone just displays a camera icon with an arrow pointing to a phone?

I live in Finland so the update should be available.
1. I updated Backup & Restore on the phone and did a backup. Everything ok so far.
2. At USB connection, PC Companion did recognize that a new SW upgrade is available. But when starting it, the Support Zone activated and evidently tried to update Backup and Restore but then failed with the message "This application could not be installed. Please try again later".
3. I uninstalled PC Companion and SE Update Service from the PC and reinstalled PC Companion. Now it did not recognize any new SW update anymore for my phone, but the Support Zone worked otherwise.
4. After a reboot of the PC I tried again and now came back to point 2 again. I.e. PC Companion recognized that an update is available but then again failed at the Backup and Restore stage.
Please advise. There is something called Android Sync popping up both on the PC at boot time, and on the phone when the USB is connected. Can it have any effect on this? The PC runs Vista.
The installed PC Companion is version 2.01.058 and SE Update Engine has also installed itself on the PC.
The installed Backup and Restore on the phone is version 10115.
Seems as though the update I just d loaded fixed this bug, anybody else fee anything else new or notice the same change?
View 8 Replies View RelatedToday I went to update my X10. While at work it wouldn't allow me to as it insisted I connected it to a computer. So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer. Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup. After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process. I left it restoring for a while.
When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap. But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. I tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere. I have work related contacts as well as family & friends and really need to get my contacts back - please advise?
So I just rooted my HTC desire but I didn't install a new ROM. Why you may ask because all I wanted to do is install most apps to my SD card because my SD card getting full. I didn't install a ROM because I found out that froyo was not offering this and I had not updated to it but when I try to update I get a quarter of the way thought installing when the bar disappears and a yellow triangle appears behind the android.
I suspect this is because of root. I would very much like to keep with OTA updates if possible. So what would you recommend I do? Proceed with unrooting or update with a RUU or something else?
(FYI I called Talus (my carrier) and they said if the OTA update dose not work after I do a factory reset (already tried) then I could send it in for repair, so I would assume that would reset all the software on my phone thus not being rooted. Would this be an option as my phone is under warranty or would stock ROM but rooted still void it?
Loving the Jager 1.1 ROM. Just wondering if it is ok to due the OTA that keeps popping up? It is the 3.6 MB update that I believe dropped a while ago. I have just kept pressing install later. Any one know if it is ok to do this OTA update?
View 5 Replies View Relatedive decided finally to bite the bullet, having a desire on 707.6 not being able to update OTA maybe due to the great firewall of china or HTC either way, no matter how many times i got to settings > about phone > check for updates, .....so the only option here is to flash a new rom....im not going to wait any more while everyone has Froyo...

now here is my question upon looking at roms it states i need to also install a radio as well, this guide does not really tell me how to go about that (yes im very green at this) can someone please enlighten me because i clearly do not know something im supposed to common sense would dictate that i would repeat the install zip step and install the radio...but i know sometimes computers do not use common sense
Flash (in clockworkMOD) a .zip file containing a themed HTC IME Mod, however, it is not installing properly.
I have the keyboard in apk file. I place this in a folder called app and that is in a folder called system. I then sign the file and save it as a .zip (I have created other files and they have worked perfectly). The problem is, the HTC_IME in DeFroST is already installed, and my themed one is not over writing the one which is on the ROM as standard. I have tried to change the name to the same as it is in the ROM (HTC_IME_hi22.apk) within the system/app folders, but this still didn?t change it. Am I missing something here?
After buying a HTC Desire in August, I've been very happy with it. The best phone I have ever owned. And after rooting it and installing LeeDroid's 1.9a ROM, I've been enjoying the tweaks and a2sd+. Anyway, I have a Telus Desire which I unlocked and am using with Fido. I followed this guide to root and this to install the LeeDroid ROM.
Ever since then, however, I have not been flash any new ROMs. When I flash a new ROM using ROM Manager, it goes to the white screen with the HTC in green then the screen/phone just shuts off becoming unresponsive until I take the battery out then in again. When I open ROM Manager, it gives me a pop-up that says "Recovery Failure" with three lines which say:
- Recovery mode is "broken".
- ROM Manager doesn't reboot.
- Other.
I tried to reload the clockwork recovery using ROM Manager and Unrevoked. Didn't seem to fix the issue. There is an official OTA update that I couldn't install due to the same issue. If you have any input as to how I should fix this issue
So I've been looking into flashing custom kernels, and I can't seem to find an answer to this question. Basically, I'm wondering if the kernel remains after installing a new nightly, or do I have to reflash the kernel every time the ROM updates?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently debating whether I should wait for my carrier (Telus) to provide the Froyo update OTA, or use a downloaded ROM. I'm more or less clear on the advantages/DISadvantages of using a downloaded RUU. I'm less clear on the advantages of waiting for Telus to offer it. I recently got the HTC Desire, and the Telus update could be as late as November. I would really like to install Froyo NOW, because once I start using the phone more and entering contacts and agendas and all of that, I don't want to have to redo all the work I did configuring the phone. Waiting for Telus OTA UPDATE:
* I get the update NOW, and I can get on with my life.
* No risk bricking the phone (biggest thing holding me back!)
* No need to waste an entire SD card, just to keep a backup of the Goldcard image in case of later updates
* I LOSE my 1-year warranty with Telus on the phone if its been hacked (UNLESS I can save version 2.1 and flash it back to that??)
I received a message saying system software update to the 2.1 platform. I have tried twice to update with no success using WI-FI.
It will download the update and then stay on a screen that has a triangle with a exclamation mark in it and a Magic laying beside it.
I left it sitting in this state for more then twenty minutes! It appears to be frozen, there are no progression bars, lights flashing or anything showing progress.
I had to pull the battery both times. It comes back to life with 1.5 firmware version on it. I've seen some posts that looks like some people have had success.
So I was having a problem with my Optimus V (Virginmobile) and I couldn't send or receive texts. I did a factory restart thinking it would work but then found myself at the recovery menu. When I try to flash xionia_cwma_12518.6.zip it says E:cant find update script. When I try and flash CM7.2RC1_VM670-BobZhome-052012 it installs and when I reboot i get taken back to the recovery menu.
In short; My Virgin Mobile Optimus V is stuck in a recovery loop that I am unable to get out of due to an error while trying to flash ROMs/ Custom Recovery.
The error reads at the end of all attempts: E: Can't find update script.
I have a problem with the launcher icon when I update my application from 1.0 to 1.1. I have the right launcher icon in 1.0 but not in 1.1 just after an update. But, if I reboot my devices, it's ok.In the manifest, I just increase the android:versionCode and android:versionName but didn't change anything about my android:icon. But, I have new image in the folder drawable in 1.1.

Here is the scenario: App v1 icon LAUNCH is set to Activity Main from the manifest file. App v2 icon LAUNCH is set to Activity All from the manifest file and Activity Main no longer exists. After updating to App v2 the app icon fails to launch the application saying it doesn't exist! After a restart of the phone things work. So how can I refresh the applications package or better the launch icon and shortcut icons so that my users don't experience this after an upgrade of my newest app version?

I lost the gmail app icon.
The app itself works. When I receive an email, the gmail app notifies me and in Play Store gmail appears as "installed".
I received the OTA 2.1 update last night and now I have a sync icon in the top bar that will not go away. Is there some intense syncing to be done after the update?

I am so upset because AT&T forced 4.3 update on my phone. For a month constantly ignored then yesterday message displayed could no longer be postponed.Now the blue Navigation icon is missing & even when I do uninstall google maps update doesn't revert to 6.0. Is that because 4.3 won't allow it to and if so is there a work around. My phone was already set up to allow manual updates only which is how I kept blue navigation for so long & never updated maps. but when 4.3 was forced it looks as it removed blue navigation app.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a basic camera app. The problem that I am facing is that it works fine in emulator but on the phone (Nexus one) it fails.
The point of failure is the very first call, i.e. Camera.open(). It fails on the phone saying "Failed to connect to camera service". Any idea what could be wrong? (BTW, I am calling this from my activity's onCreate funtion itself, could that be an issue?)
For the information, I do have the necessary Camera permissions specified in my manifest xml file.
I remarked to my wife that the video shot with my new EVO looked like home movies from when we were kids. I then saw that the EVO shoots at 24 fps which explains the home movie video look. Will/can the Froyo update improve the video and or camera quality? It's not a deal breaker but when you have kids it's nice to have a video camera with you at all times. I've got 3 more weeks left on my 30 day trial period. I know the i Phone 4 will shoot at 30 fps and the test images I've seen are considerably better than my EVO.

I slid out the panel on the screen and chose video, it switches to video but then the camera app just quits and I can't use the video camera. This happens every time I switch to video and I've tried turning my phone off and on again many times and it hasn't fixed the issue. I've searched on line and no one seems to be having this issue. Any ideas?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated to 2.2 OTA a few days ago and since then my camera doesn't work. When launched all I get is a black screen that sits there indefinitely. If I kill all running processes and try again the screen goes black and immediately returns to the home screen. I did notice that a few days ago it suddenly started working again out of nowhere, but the following morning it was dead again. I've tried a full factory reset but no joy.
