HTC Desire : Camera Dead After Froyo Update
Aug 6, 2010
I updated to 2.2 OTA a few days ago and since then my camera doesn't work. When launched all I get is a black screen that sits there indefinitely. If I kill all running processes and try again the screen goes black and immediately returns to the home screen. I did notice that a few days ago it suddenly started working again out of nowhere, but the following morning it was dead again. I've tried a full factory reset but no joy.

Just updated to Froyo, and my camera no longer works, neither in camera or video mode. Tap the icon and the screen shows the white startup icon, then goes back to the home screen. I'm on 3 in the UK, and have an unbranded, un-locked handset, as sent to me by 3. The phone is not rooted.

My brother and I both just updated to the new firmware and noticed something.. Go and open up the Camera app (hold the red button) and tap "Switch to Video" and then tap it again so you are back in the picture mode. Look closely at the screen (point it at a white/black wall), do you see a couple light blue/green little dots in random spots? I noticed it on my phone first and then went and asked to borrow his and sure enough, his has them too. They don't seem to actually be in the pictures themselves.. just on the viewfinder screen.

My DroidX was working for the few days with no dead pixels on any of the menu screens, none on any of the software applications, and none on the Camera or Camcorder applications.
On Tuesday afternoon I downloaded and installed the DroidX 1.13.604 Software Update.
My DroidX now has some dead pixels that appear only in the Camera and Camcorder applications, and not in any of the other applications or menu items.
Since the dead pixels only occur in the Camera and Camcorder applications, could it be a software related bug or mayme something else?

I remarked to my wife that the video shot with my new EVO looked like home movies from when we were kids. I then saw that the EVO shoots at 24 fps which explains the home movie video look. Will/can the Froyo update improve the video and or camera quality? It's not a deal breaker but when you have kids it's nice to have a video camera with you at all times. I've got 3 more weeks left on my 30 day trial period. I know the i Phone 4 will shoot at 30 fps and the test images I've seen are considerably better than my EVO.

When trying to do 720p recording the camera freezes, turns black and requires a battery removal. I got about 3 seconds of 720p recording but even when I go in to view the video it freezes or lags severely to the point I need to remove the battery.

I was certain I'd seen another post on this, but can't find it. Since Froyo, my camera doesn't work with flash. Even at 90% battery I get this message: Flash is disabled due to low battery power, cold weather, or a running application that uses a lot of power, like Wi-Fi hot spot and phone. I haven't got a LED flash torch thing - I uninstalled that before updating to 2.2. Ideas?

Reading many of the comments of people upgrading to froyo, i am at this stage rather put off upgrading to froyo. One thing that concerns me the most is, that some users are experiencing problems with the stock browser being laggy.I have a sim free Desire from the CPW.So am i right to hold back and wait for more feedback, as it seems since the update there has been more negativity to froyo than i expected. Or should i take the plunge and update to Froyo now?

With this RUU package you can flash your phone to the current official OTA update i.e. the latest software, radio and bootloader. If you have a branded phone, this will debrand it.This method doesn't require you to root your phone and it doesn't install any unofficial or modified software. If your phone is currently rooted it will remove it.If you install an official branded update to Froyo, e.g. Vodafone's, you will not be able to install this.An alternative installation method that does not need any drivers (or even a computer) is available.

I've read that there is a leaked version of the O2 Froyo update, but after searching I haven't been able to find it.. Doesn't help that O2 is only 2 characters and the forums don't search for that. Does anybody have any info? I saw the RUU one, but I don't want to wipe my phone. I'm probably better waiting for the official OTA update, to be fair. It's on the 8th or something isn't it?

I bought an unbranded (fairly certain it's unbranded) desire from mobicity.com.au. I'm using it on the Optus Australia network, and its currently on the wifi at my place. Looking to update to froyo, but checking through phone settings>about>updates says there's no update available. Do I need to wait for an Australian update to 2.2, or can i do it manually? Not looking to root at this stage though.

I have a virgin branded phone., It works with my 02 sim,so i guess it is unlocked? A few weeks a go I was prompted to install 2.2, unfortunatly it didn't work properly and my phone was bricked. I have just got my phone back from HTC after 3 long weeks and am amazed to find they havn't put the update on the phone. I have now used the option to see if there is an update for the phone and it says there isn't.Does anyone know if a Virgin branded phone with an 02 sim in it can get the update.

T-Mobile have finally released their HTC Sense update for the desire this morning. I've been waiting months for this. Everything seemed to go fine on the update, it auto backed up everything to the sd card and on updating all apps were displayed on the home screens as before. I have a problem now though - my internet browser keeps crashing when loading pages. It displays most of the page and reaches about 95% but then closes back to the home screen. I haven't done much to the phone other than installing apps and it generally worked before the update. Using webkit 3.1 browser and tried pages such as failblog, gizmodo and android forums. Any others with this problem?

this is what i was told when i asked orange about the update
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Desire phone. Further to our conversation today. Once again please accept my apologies that we are unable to provide a date for the release. Please find below the link discussed to our website on a PC where you are able to check in the future if an update from us has been released. http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?c=OUKPage&catID=1096364420631&cid=109635 9217080&itemid=1221037995178&itemtype=HowTo&mid=11 27450772656&pagename=OUKPersonal&pid=1096364420640 &product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1 I have also supplied below the required steps that you will need to take in order to organise an update to your phone. Be advised to follow the on-screen instructions as it will give you necessary and required information regarding your phone. "your phone's features" > "download software updates" > "how do I download the latest software update" > "HTC Desire update" When a new update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to us so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this update they have released will co-exist with the branding that you are required to use on your phone. It is possible that the new update that is released may not co-exist with our branding and thus we will not be able to release the update for the HTC Desire, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could effectively be detrimental to your handset and we will not process for this reason........

I have seen a few firmware versions of FROYO banded around for the Desire on this Forum. Having updated my O2 Desire yesterday and playing around with it, I was curious how the O2 firmware compares with the rest. My software details are as follows: Android version 2.2. Baseband version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1 Build number 2.14.207.1 CL233777 release-keys Software number 2.14.207.1 Browser version Webkit 3.1. I may be optimistic/delusional but I have discovered some features in the O2 Froyo release from yesterday that were showcased the other day at the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z launch event as being part of the all new HTC Sense.

I am a US Cellular Desire owner from the Midwest. Just wondering what the status of an update is with my carrier. I've asked in store and gotten no definitive answer. I mean 3.0 is just around the corner and they are really dragging their feet on this one. I'm also curious as to how the update will be done. There is no option in the phone through the menu to update manually in the About Phone section. Has anyone heard what the USCC plan for update will be?

Just got my Dinc in the mail & spent a lot of time setting up & customizing it.After a few hours doing this, I decided to try some of the phone's features namely the camera & video camera. The camera doesn't work! All I get when I bring up the camera app is a reddish/pink background with "snow". Anyone else encounter this problem?I'm assuming I've got the latest updates for the phone as it just arrived. FW = 2.1-update1

I just got the shock of my life when I looked at my data counter and found that I'd used 3x my monthly allowance, and about 6x more data than I normally use. I've not installed any new apps recently, all that is different is that I upgraded to Froyo about a week ago. I even removed Facebook, due to the battery issue, so I have no idea what is suddenly consuming so much data. Can anyone recommend an app that will show you what is actively using your data connection, or can tell me what has been using the connection recently? I really need to find out what the app is, and kill it, as I've had to disable my data connection to prevent any further costs. FWIW, been looking at the phone this morning, and the data connection is constantly live, so whatever it is, it's using data all the time.

One of my friends has been having a problem with getting wallpaper changes to 'stick' since she updated to Froyo at the weekend. The problem is that she can change the wallpaper on her phone but if her phone has been completely powered off, when she turns it back on the wallpaper goes back to the default - it doesn't happen though if she turns the screen back on from standby.
She has tried removing the battery and saving the setup as a new scene but that doesn't help and it also isn't a problem if she just changes to a different stock wallpaper, it's only when she changes to a wallpaper she has downloaded.

I recently did the Telus OTA Froyo update and now I am wondering if I can still root my phone? Did I screw the pooch buy installing the update? And it would seem most of the benefits of rooting were addressed in the update but I am interested in overclocking, better apps and partitioning. Seems like even with the update I still can't move all my apps to my SD card as I thought I might be able to and I've been told that is the dev's problem and not Google but with rooting can more be moved to my SD?
