I just upgraded my xperia to android 2.1 and immediatley after that my phone keeps on restarting. is this normal? or should i reinstall the update again?

This morning, we updated our app on AM; this was our first update since release of Android 1.1.
In testing, on the emulator and with the signed .apk installed on our handsets, everything appeared to be working fine; however, we uploaded to AM, selected the new CopyProtection option, and published. Wertago disappeared for about 30 minutes, and as soon as it reappeared, we downloaded, installed, and started. Immediately upon starting, we got a force close and were never able to get the app started at all.
We've seen some discussions about similar app behavior experienced by other developers, and there was mention of likely bugs in AM or in the Copy Protection scheme. Has this been confirmed by Google, is there any communication from them about a coming fix, or anything like that?
Here's a little detail about what we gather from the logcat output. Our app appears to fail upon attempting to open/create the database; the relevant line is:
tmpDatabase = instance.openOrCreateDatabase(SEARCH_DATABASE_NAME, Context.MODE_PRIVATE, null);
which throws the sqlite3_open_v2 error.
My girlfriend just received her Droid 2 the other day and I have been helping her set it up. There was an available update so I had it installed. Now every time we try to use a browser, any browser, it opens for a second and then it closes to the Home screen right away. No force close, no error message, just poof and it's gone. I didn't install many apps to it like my Captivate because I figured less is more for her. She added her facebook and MySpace accounts but that's about it really.
I looked all over the past few hours and found similar issues but none quite the same. I cleared the cache, cleared the data, nothing. 3G or WiFi made no difference. I tried with the stock browser, Skyfire, Dolphin, and xScope and same results across the board. I turned all location settings off and back on and back off again to no avail. I just did a factory reset 15 minutes ago and nothing has changed. I am going to do it again without allowing the Backup Assistant to do anything. I'll make a fresh google account to see if there's a difference there but I don't think it will work. It's not rooted or anything, it's pretty much fresh out of the box from only 3 days ago.
I notice that my app's data on external storage (i.e. SD card) gets deleted during an "adb install -r". While this is normal for uninstall (and then afterwards install optionally to notice it), I do not understand why this is the case for reinstall (and thus for Market updates as well). I could have sworn this was not always the case.
Referring to http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#filesExternal I am specifically using "Accessing files on external storage" on Android 2.2, but not "Saving files that should be shared" or "Saving cache files". So I am writing and reading data in "/sdcard/Android/data//files/somefolder/data". My preferences do stick.
@Commonsware: The problem is not so much with getExternalFilesDir() IMHO as I see my data is written where I expect it. It just does not stick. I am using a.o.:

I updated my Milestone last week and all was working ok. I decided to root the phone today and ended up in some constant re-boot loop where the android logo would appear then reset. I managed to get the phone working again after several hours of worry, but there still seems to be some issues. I would like to remove the 2.0.1 update and re-install it again from frest so that i can fully remove this root access and hopefully my problems.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get my phone prepared to update to 2.2 and I wanted to reinstall the bloatware. I did something stupid. I went into adb shell, went to the system/app folder and did "mv *.bak *.apk" which basically destroyed everything in that folder. At that moment, I tried to RSDLite flash my phone the SBF but it wouldn't take. Phone froze up, couldn't do anything and, of course, I get the Droid animation when booting infinitely due to nothing being in /system/app I can reboot into recovery and connect the phone to my PC, but nothing really seems to happen. I imagine I could recover the phone if someone made an update.zip which restored the default apps into the /system/app folder, but I don't have an update.zip of that nature. Even the Verizon ones I have seem to look for old versions of the files. Does anyone have or can tailor an update.zip which would restore the system/app folder for me? I think that, if you could do that, I could be saved. Otherwise, I think I am screwed, unless someone has another option for me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently upgraded my xperia x10 to Android 2.1.The upgrade installed fine but am unable to speak on calls for more than a few seconds since then. Few seconds after a call is connected (while receiving or making) it crashes and the phone shows no network (there is no network coverage issue) and searches for the SD card (similar to at the time of boot). The screen then goes blue.Have tried re-installing the upgrade but that doesn't solve the problem. Anybody has any ideas.

I donīt know what should be the problem. Somehow the values do not arrive in the sql statement. I did nearly the same with the insert method and that worked quite fine.
After I updated to 2.1 i cant see the phonebook any longer in my car (BMW 1 serie with IDRIVE and bluetooth). With 1.6 I could chose a contact and then dial directly, or import the phone number (however it was not as great as the old symbian OS where you even could navigate directly to a contact). Is it someone that has any idea of a good app or something that makes this possible (maybe a Symbian simulator :-)).
I have also realized that the connection (dB) has decreased with the new OS. I even loos connection on the E4, with this phone (Xperia X10 mini Pro).
Just got a new Android phone, my second after a brief stint with the G1 a year or so ago..
Today I noticed that I received notifications that I have apps with updates available. When I click on the notification it takes me to my downloads in the Marketplace, but it doesn't show me which app has an update. They all just say Installed.
Is there no way to tell what application needs updating?
The version of the software that is most current is version 6 (the phone shipped with version 3).

I was told that the reason that I keep seeing the "No update file exists" message when I check "update firmware" is because I have the latest version.
At some point my phone was updated without giving me a message. I did notice the red and blue arrows yesterday. But there was no message. My SD card mounted and dismounted on its own and gave an error message, and then all references to the error and SD card disappeared.
If your phone is/has exhibited this sort of behavior, you may already have the update.
Onee the " official" fryo comes out will I have to flash to stock then update or can I just apply the update to my rooted phone?

I have an X10 Mini that when new was locked to the Orange UK network but I have since unlocked (but not unbranded) it and now use a different network. Which Android 2.1 update will I need? Generic, Orange or the new network provider? If it is the generic one will this also have the benefit of unbranding the phone and getting rid of Orange apps? If it is the Orange upgrade will the phone become locked to their network again and require unlocking again?I need the phone to stay unlocked for the future.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to update my phone now for nearly two weeks, trying various options, yet nothing I do helps in any way.I started off just running the update from SEUS with my phone as i've been using it.the updater started, gets about 70% through "Preparing" and pops up an error "Unable to install or start software update components." Closing which pops up "try again" or come to this site.I then tried uninstalling all installed components, same result as above.I then tried a Master Reset to factory setting, same result as above.I then disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus, same result as above.Basically, i'm at the end of my tether, this should not be this difficult, I should not have to jump through this amount of hoops.If there was a way to legitimately root the phone (keeping warranty), I could already have Froyo installed, instead of this irritating mess thats causing me nothing but headaches.

When should I be prompted that an update is available via PC Companion? because when I look in the phone settings and check for updates it says there's one available, but not on PCC?
I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I
Does it actually work? I still have to manually update the apps I put on auto update.

It opens, I can browse and select apps but when attempting to download it states 'starting Download', with a barber-pole bar, but the download goes no further. I have re-installed the update which seemed to work at first with one download working but then the same problem re-occurred.
