So I just rooted my HTC desire but I didn't install a new ROM. Why you may ask because all I wanted to do is install most apps to my SD card because my SD card getting full. I didn't install a ROM because I found out that froyo was not offering this and I had not updated to it but when I try to update I get a quarter of the way thought installing when the bar disappears and a yellow triangle appears behind the android.
I suspect this is because of root. I would very much like to keep with OTA updates if possible. So what would you recommend I do? Proceed with unrooting or update with a RUU or something else?
(FYI I called Talus (my carrier) and they said if the OTA update dose not work after I do a factory reset (already tried) then I could send it in for repair, so I would assume that would reset all the software on my phone thus not being rooted. Would this be an option as my phone is under warranty or would stock ROM but rooted still void it?
This thread on XDA suggests that the GPS is working much better after the OTA. I find it hard to believe, as that wasn't listed as one of the fixes. But look at what people are saying:Epic 4g: DI07 GPS is fast and fixed! xda-developers

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust an FYI, there is a new version of Beautiful Widgets on the Market that fixes the weather update issue so many people have been reporting. Open the Market, hit the options button and go to "downloads", and you can update from there. Just got the update myself and among some other neat changes, the weather actually updates properly now.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just tried to update my Xperia x10 to Android 2.1 I followed all the instructions, but after the update my phone just displays a camera icon with an arrow pointing to a phone?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI live in Finland so the update should be available.
1. I updated Backup & Restore on the phone and did a backup. Everything ok so far.
2. At USB connection, PC Companion did recognize that a new SW upgrade is available. But when starting it, the Support Zone activated and evidently tried to update Backup and Restore but then failed with the message "This application could not be installed. Please try again later".
3. I uninstalled PC Companion and SE Update Service from the PC and reinstalled PC Companion. Now it did not recognize any new SW update anymore for my phone, but the Support Zone worked otherwise.
4. After a reboot of the PC I tried again and now came back to point 2 again. I.e. PC Companion recognized that an update is available but then again failed at the Backup and Restore stage.
Please advise. There is something called Android Sync popping up both on the PC at boot time, and on the phone when the USB is connected. Can it have any effect on this? The PC runs Vista.
The installed PC Companion is version 2.01.058 and SE Update Engine has also installed itself on the PC.
The installed Backup and Restore on the phone is version 10115.
Today I went to update my X10. While at work it wouldn't allow me to as it insisted I connected it to a computer. So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer. Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup. After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process. I left it restoring for a while.
When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap. But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. I tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere. I have work related contacts as well as family & friends and really need to get my contacts back - please advise?
I just updated my Hero (G-sensor calibration update), and lost most of the widgets on the screen (only the agenda widget remains?)
I then did what was recommended on the forum: erase the sense cache/data, losing all the previous sense settings of course, but the widgets still don't appear in the available widgets list (I was using HTC clock, HTC mail, GMail, messages, browser favorites, twitter... all gone )
They still are on the installed applications list of my phone, but absent on the screen, and impossible to reinstall since they can't be found in the available widgets. They can't even be uninstalled from my phone.
What should I do?
Is it possible to uninstall say the HTCclock widget & reinstall it again? Uninstall & reinstall sense itself?
Today I've just started having many SMS failures when trying to send via my Desire handset on the Orange UK network. I've put the sim in another phone and the messages send (and receive) fine. I've done a factory reset and still the problem remains - 'SMS unable to send' notification. Eventually on a retry it seems they do send (sometimes coming through twice) but it's something that has only just started happening.
As I say I tried a factory reset and the problem remains using either the stock sms client or indeed Handcent. I also noticed before the reset when I restarted the phone it would take upto 5 minutes to achieve any phone signal at all - after the restart it finds it almost immediately.
I have a HTC Hero here, and when I tried to get the list of available sensors on the device by calling ((SensorManager) getSystemService (Context.SENSOR_SERVICE)) .getSensorList(Sensor.TYPE_ALL); I get only the following sensors: D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: BMA150 3-axis Accelerometer, handle=0 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 3-axis Magnetic field sensor, handle=1 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Orientation sensor, handle=2 D/SensorManager( 6302): found sensor: AK8973 Temperature sensor, handle=3 According to the specs, there should be a light and a proximity sensor on the Hero, and I've seen it in action (the automatic screen brightness adjustment) - so at least the ambient light sensor is definitely there. My question is then, why doesn't the getSensorList return for me the light and the proximity sensors?
View 8 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know the difference between the orientation sensor and magnetic field sensor on Android?Since I've read that magnetometer is synonymous with digital compass I'm a little bit confused. What are they really?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy home icon is way less responsive than the back icon which seems to be perfectly normal. Sometimes I have to "press" the home icon twice to get the "buzz" and have it move the screen. However the back icon works 99% of the time on the first press. IS there any adjustment I can make or should I bring the phone back. I have had it now for 2 weeks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOr it's just some virtual sensor the uses the data provided by the accelerometer and the magnetic field sensor to calculate the orientation?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhere abouts is the sensor that detects if you are holding the phone up to your ear and dims the screen? Need to modify my wife's case (like what I did with her old iPhone case) as it doesnt turn the screen off, or if it does it doesnt turn it back on afterwards!

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I send a text message when I've had no signal but the phone hasn't told me yet I get a failed notification which is fine, but I'll keep getting them until I find the text message and delete it, even then I still get a couple more, deleting the message also means I have to type it again, anyone know how to stop the multiple notifications?
I've downloaded No Signal Alert which should help in the future and Handcent seems to cut the notifications down and bit but I still get a few.
I don't think this was always the case but my HTC desire won't switch to both horizontals, only one. I have done a reboot and a calibration, the calibration looked fine too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone still having problems with the black screen? Have downloaded and installed the ota update and if anything the problem is worse! Seems ok on incoming calls but if I make an outgoing call the screen goes blank and the only way to reactivate is to hit the power key. This is starting to sound like faulty hardware to me. I read that the ota update was supposed to sort this! Any advise would be appreciated as other than this really annoying problem the phone is great!
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, I love my Desire, but there's something bothering me that's been costing me some money and trouble: Whenever I accidentaly call someone, I press the back button thinking it hangs up the call. But then I realise it's still calling! So I try to bring up the notification bar, though whenever I try to place my finger near the top of the phone, it automatically turns of the screen. After 20 seconds of trying, I've already lost money and afterwards people call back or message me why I've been calling them. Anyone else had this problem yet?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomehow I keep managing to hang up on calls/call other people during calls. The proximity sensor does work but i think I must inadvertently move the sensor away from the screen, activating the screen. Is there an app that requires the screen to be unlocked during a call when the screen re-activates?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an HTC Desire from a T-Mobile store 3 weeks ago. The ambient light sensor has never worked and it's enabled on the display settings.
I went back to the T-Mobile store and they tried a brand new unit. Unfortunately, that one also seem to have the same issue. Then I called the HTC technical support and they say there are no reports on such kind of issue.
If not, does the display brightness get adjusted quickly or slowly?
I've experienced the problem that when the desire is in my pocket and I receive a notification, the screen gets accidentally unlocked and the phone starts doing things that I don't want it to do. I know I can add an unlock pattern so that it won't unlock as easily but this is at the expense of me having to enter it even in situations I would not have needed it. So I thought that maybe we could use the proximity sensor to tell the phone to never unlock the screen if an object is close to the phone. Quickly looking at the android docs, it seems that the support for this is in the SDK, but I was wondering if anyone had created an application that does this. If time permits, I might even have a look at doing it myself, but as I'm very new to Android development, it will take me quite a long time to get to a usable state, hence my question about an existing app that does this.
View 49 Replies View RelatedAnyone else not pleased with the camera? It's fine in super bright outdoor conditions, but if you even attempt to use that flash, it's all over. Images are so overexposed it doesn't even look like Sprint/HTC tested the thing and oddly, with the flash, it is nearly impossible to get a picture that isn't blurry. When I turn the flash off the dark picture, albeit very dim, is perfectly clear compared to the one taken with the flash. And the flash button basically does what it wants. I can press it 10 times and it will maybe change the flash setting once.I hope they address this in a very-soon update to the phone.
View 22 Replies View RelatedOkay so after scrutinizing my white evo 4g for the first time yesterday I noticed that the bottom corner of the phone has some SLIGHT lift (like .5mm above the bezel) and of course some light leakage, which doesn't bother me too much. However I thought HTC were going to fix this issue in manufacturing starting in late June? Anyway it looks like they didn't.If possible I'd really like to just keep this phone and not swap it. I am hoping the separation doesn't get worse but I wanted to ask on here if anyone knows of a way to just go ahead and fix the issue myself. Like for example would a couple tiny dots of superglue on the corner do the job? Would that hurt the phone? What about the hex screws? I am suspicious about the validity of that fix.Anyway any advice on how to fix this before it (possibly) gets worse
