General :: Group Texts With IPhone And Non-iPhone Users?

Oct 30, 2013

When a group message is sent between my co-workers, who are all iphone users, and myself (Note 3), one person in the exchange does not receive the text. This is not the common iMessage issue that was plaguing me when I made the switch from Apple to Android. This is specifically affecting one iphone user. When I send her a text individually it is not a problem. The other iPhone users don't have a problem receiving or sending to me.

Android :: How To Group Message Chat With IPhone IOS4 Users?

Jul 27, 2010

Yes, unfortunately I have friends with iPhones. With iOS4, they can basically do a group text chat that has all the users receiving the messages from everyone in one location and all messages are saved. This is basically like a chat group using text messages. My question is whether android has any apps that can allow us to "join" these chats. I asked my friend to add me as a user to the chat but all that accomplishes is letting me get individual messages from each member of the chat. If I wanted to reply to the group, I would have to reply to each one individually.

Galaxy S :: Samsung Trying To Attract Iphone Users?

Mar 25, 2010

Do you think that was the method to their madness behind this Samsung galaxy s device? Thinking that they would make something as close to the iPhone as possible for Android? Clearly it was no accident.
- same app screen
- slides app screen the same
- same looking app icons on app screen
- same green phone icon
- same bottom row dock space for 4 apps
- same phone design and size (galaxy being slightly taller)
- etc. (If I missed anything)

Android :: Send Simple Data From An IPhone To Another IPhone Or Android?

Nov 11, 2010

I'm just getting started with mobile development, and after considerable searching I'm still confused about sending a message from my iPhone to another or an Android. For instance, in building a simple Tic-Tac-Toe game, if I want to notify the other phone of a move, what is the best way to do so? Wifi, bluetooth, 3G? And how? Many methods seem to point to communicating through a web server, but I'd rather send them directly from phone to phone if possible.

Android : App Not Showing Up For Evo Users?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm working on a project (Foursquare). I pushed a new version to marketplace last night, but it is not showing up in marketplace searches for Evo users. I've read about this happening to other apps, and one major reason seems to be if copy protection is being used (but it is not for the Foursquare app).

Anyone else have an idea why this is happening? Is there a set of permissions Evo doesn't support which may be blocking the app from showing up in marketplace?

Android : Any ScoreLoop Users Out There?

May 26, 2010

I'm implementing ScoreLoop for my game. There is a standard selection widget for the leaderboard type, which lets you refine the scores. By default, I get:

- Global Leaderboard - Your Country Leaderboard - 24h Leaderboard - search_list.nationality_iso3166_1 - search_list.nationality_iso3166_2

What on earth are the last two items? This list seems to come from ScoreLoop, rather than being anything configurable in the xml. I only want the first three in the list, is there anyway I can set this somewhere? I notice that other games that use ScoreLoop (like Jewels for example) only have the first three items also.

Android :: Sharing Data Between Users

Aug 25, 2010

I'm writing a game that includes an editor for users to create their own levels. I'd like players to be able to share the levels they've created with other players. I'm trying to figure out the best way of implementing that, and hoping for any advice on the subject.

One obvious option is to set up a server for sharing levels. The game would connect directly to the server to let players share their creations or download levels created by other players. This provides seamless integration and a good user experience, but I'd really prefer not to use this approach. For one thing, I don't want the cost and responsibility of setting up and maintaining the server. And I would be taking on a basically unlimited obligation; otherwise, if I decided to shut down the server a few years from now, the game would suddenly lose a large part of its value.

Another idea I had is to use the Android Market as the way to distribute sets of levels. That way, Google is taking care of running the server for me. Clearly there are programs that work this way, since I've seen lots of themes and expansion packs for particular applications in the Market. While this could work, I'm not very happy with it. Asking an ordinary user to sign up for a developer account on the Market and learn how to post files through it is unreasonable, not to mention they would have to pay $25.

The approach I'm currently leaning toward is allowing levels to be exported as ordinary files. People could then just email them to each other, post them on any website they wanted, etc. Ideally I would want to set up a file type association so they could simply open an email attachment or click a link in the web browser, and my game would automatically be launched to import it. I haven't yet looked into whether that's possible.

Android :: Can't Update Be Installed By Users?

Feb 22, 2009

I did an app called "Hello Yahoo" and today I made an update. But users said it can't be installed because the package is not signed correctly. And after that the old version can't even be uninstalled because the device thinks it is uninstalled already. I never experience that, but it is reported by many users. I do use a different keystore to sign it with the update. Is this the case? How can I fix this?

Android :: Any Experienced Greystripe Users?

Apr 6, 2010

I'm just experimenting with Greystripe, to see how the ads look in comparison with other providers. I can't get it working, though I'm sure I've followed the instructions to the letter.

- I've setup the application and got the unique identifier. It is shown as live in my account.
- I've setup a test device and entered the correct device details
- I checked and double checked my code.

No ads are ever returned. The call sdk.is Ad Ready() always returns false. It's been hours now since the account was setup. I get no error messages. It all seems rather vague, with a lack of support from their end.

I've had more than one user say they have trouble when they "upgrade" new versions of my app in Android Market. One woman says it takes her several "days" to successfully do it (I presume that means multiple attempts spread out over time). Can this be on my end? I upgrade my database on each rev - basically I retreive the user data and stick it in the new database that ships with my app. But I think the complaint is about something different. Has anyone else received comments about anything similar? I am concerned people uninstall my app just because of this issue,

Android :: Slingbox / Slingplayer Mobile Users

Well, the new season is a few months away and so I'm getting in some preliminary research done.If my primary usage of the slingstuff is going to be watching NBA games on the go (mostly on my phone on 3G, and maybe a little bit from my notebook but not often) which Slingbox should I get?Basically I don't want to pay extra for features I won't be able to use via the Android client, but I don't wanna go too cheap and end up with a crappy picture because of it. Android :: Users Getting Package Not Signed Correctly

May 2, 2010

A small percentage of our users are getting a package not signed correctly error when installing our app that was downloaded from the Market. They can't re-download from the Market, so we are having to get them to download and install it from our site, which works fine. It seems to happen to maybe 1% of our users, and only for our paid app, not for the free one (at least that we've heard of, naturally the paid users are going to contact us more than the free ones). I'm guessing it's a problem when the download is corrupted for some reason, but in that case shouldn't the Market let them re-download it and try again? Anyone else seeing this?
