Notification With JEE Application?
Jun 13, 2012
I develop an JEE application with EJB3 and struts 2
I work with jboss 5.1
for now I want to add a module android in this application
the idea is to send a notification to the administrator as soon as I add a user in the application (in the database)
So in my application I have a web interface that contains contact information for the users to add and as soon as I click in the button "add" a notifiction will send to the phone of administarteur
This notification contains information about the user who is added to the database (name and surname, email ....)

I came up with what I think is a unique idea for an application, and I would like to see if everyone here can help me decide if it's possible or not. I'm somewhat familiar with the SDK, but not very experienced. This would be my first application from scratch. I'm looking to you, developers, to help vet my idea and see if it's possible or not. Here's the idea: The application has 1 purpose: allow the user to manage which color LED to use for any application notifications? This would include things like: Facebook friend requests, new Emails, new SMS, other 3rd party applications, etc. Anything that has an associated notification LED, they should be able to select the color. I am assuming that my application can see which applications use the notification system, and inject itself somewhere in between.

Is it just me or does the Facebook app (both Android and HTC Sense versions) absolutely suck? I just came from a Blackberry Storm and while that phone is horrid, at least they got the Facebook implementation down. The Android app doesn't seem to pick up any notifications or events and I have yet to figure out what the HTC Sense version does other than sync Facebook pictures and spam my phonebook with people I never talk to. Let me give you some examples of my frustration: Someone invites me to an event. On Blackberry: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox but BB filters it out and it shows up as a notification in the Facebook app. I can open up the notification, see all of the event information in the app, including a description, who's invited and it is automatically added to my phone's calendar, along with all relevant information. On Droid Incredible: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox as an e-mail. No notification because the Facebook app polls. I open the app and refresh everything (notifications, inbox, friends etc) but the event doesn't show up. With no other choice, I open up the link in the inbox and it brings me to the Facebook Touch (not mobile) site, which only shows the bare minimum information (time and place). No idea how to add it to my calendar other than manually typing in all of the information......

I know it's a standing issue with the androids not receiving email notifications from the regular email app but is there an APP that will just notify me of email? Doesn't have to view it or anything just alert me as I am satisfied with the original email app. I've tried K-9 and it closes unexpectedly all the time and I find it unreliable with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S). I've also tried Maildroid which I wasn't too impressed with.

These are our only phones and they stay on the night stand while we sleep. With the BB there were sound profiles you could easily select and the most useful one was "calls only". You select that and all of your notifications go silent except for incoming calls which would ring. This was perfect for switching on right before bed.
This is more of an issue for my wife because she's usually on call 24/7 so it's important to wake up or hear incoming calls overnight so vibrate mode isn't going to cut it. But at the same time, she has various notifications for email and messages and all of that so it's incredibly tedious to have to manually tweak all of those each night before bed and then turn them back on. So, at the very least is there an app or a way to easily switch the phone into a phone call notification only mode? A full blown sound profile app would be great too, but just being able to easily turn all notifications silent but the ringer with a few taps on the screen would be huge.

I am using Facebook app on my new samsung captivate. I have set the refresh interval at 30 minutes. and notifications checked (active). i have chosen messages, Pokes, Friend Requests and event invites all checked green under notification settings. For some reason, whenever i receive a friend request, i dont get notified under my notification bar. I always see that when i open the application. I was hoping to get notification without opening the app. do i need to do something to fix this? Or am i missing something very basic here.

Now that we installed ChompSMS, we need to turn off the notifications in the stock messaging app so that we don't get two notifications for each message. But I don't find any settings in the messaging app menu so that I can change it there. And I can't find it in the general Settings. So, how do I do this?

I'm creating a notification with something similar to the following:
CODE:............
The key here is the extra data on the Intent for the notification. Once I click on the notification and it brings up SomeActivity, it brings up the activity and the extra data is available.
However, if I exit the app, hold the home button until the recent activities list comes up, and choose to open the app again, the extra data is still passed. Is there a way I can make this data get passed only if the app is opened via the Notification, and not from the recent activities list?

I got an app with tabs and a notification bar entry, when I send it to background (click on home button) and try to re-open the application via click on the notification bar, the app restarts (last selected tab is lost).
When I hold the home button if the application is in the background and select it from there or click the app's icon on the homescreen, the previous state is restored per default (the correct tab is selected)
IMO the intent of the notification is wrong, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
In short: How to get a background application back to foreground when I click the notification entry?

I came across this in the marketplace. It basically lights up your screen on and off when you have a missed call or text. You have to option to set the frequency your screen flashes to notify you (every 5, 10 seconds, etc) and for how long this goes on (1 hour, 2 hours, etc) Gonna try it out. Not sure if it's a battery drainer or not, just trying it out myself.

So, I would like to assign separate ringtones for my gmail and sms alerts. Apparently, the Android system groups these together; I can assign a different tone for regular email, but not gmail, as the Android system groups them under "notifications." Is there an app out there for this?

I have finally figured out why I don't always get a notification for new mails on my HTC Hero.
I have setup an Exchange account for the build in mail application that comes with the phone, and I want it to give me a notification when I receive a new e-mail.
This will however only happen if the mail ends up in the Inbox folder in my Exchange account.
I do not get any notification if I have a rule that moves the mail automatically to a sub folder in the Inbox.
I like to sort my mails using a folder for each sender and I use the rules in Outlook to do this automatically, but this prevents the notification feature in the HTC Hero mail application from working.
I can still refresh a folder in the phone mail program and download all received mails, but no notifications and I have to do this manually.
It seems to me that the Inbox folder is only folder to be updated automatically by the ActiveSync connection.
I have my Data Syncronization settings set to As Items Arrive.
So do any of you out there know how to get the mail program to download all new mails as they arrive and give a notification on the phone, not matter what folder the mail ends up in on the Echange server?

Wondered what people's thoughts were on the mail apps that come with the phone? I've been using the HTC app, but have noticed that after a day or so the notification sound stops playing when I receive an email. This happened for anyone else? Anyone tried both apps for any length of time and have strong opinions over which app is better? I saw a review that said the HTC app is better but the Google one doesn't seem too bad to me... Anyone using the Google app that would care to chime in?

I have developed a small android application and then installed the app using ADB and uploaded the same app with a higher version number (not the string value, but the integer field) to Android market place. I get no notification saying there is an update available for my app. Under Market -> My Downloads tab in Market, the app does not show as installed. When browsing the Market, the app shows as installed but does not say "update available". When I browse to the application and touch install, however, I do receive an "overwrite previous version" warning. Steps i followed: I compiled the APK as unsigned and then created the Private key and singed the app. Then installed the app on my device using ADB. Changed the VersionCode on Manifest file with higher version and then re-compiled the code. Singed the new version of APK and then published the same on Android Market. I waited for more than 12 hours but never get the notification on checking Market->My Downloads. It would be great if some one has tried the similar things, then plz do guide me.

So when I get texts, gmail, completed app downloads, etc I get notification icons at the top as usual. When I slide the notification bar down to reveal the nofications and click on an item, the notification screen doesn't hide back to the top of my phone -- it just stays open. I either have to hide it manually or I have to hit the back button, which sometimes exits the app I was trying to open. 2.1 never did this for me, it always hid when choosing an item. Anyone have a solution to this? I've done a factory reset after 2.2 btw. I've also searched support to see if there was a similar problem, no similar threads.

Is there any way to detect whether the Notification Windows is being shown? I have a service that updates an ongoing notification, complete with a progress bar and text? Is there a way to know if the notifiication screen is actually being shown, so I can adjust how often I wouldn't be so concerned if not for the fact that the HTC Incredible will reboot after it receives several hundred or so updates. Based on a controlled experiment with a beta tester, the service could continue for 24 hours if it did not update progress, but dies after several hundred updates. So I am desperate to reduce the notifications, if that's what works, and one of the ways I could do that is by not updating as much or at all if that screen isn't being shown.
