Android :: Facebook Application Gives No Notification
May 8, 2010
Is it just me or does the Facebook app (both Android and HTC Sense versions) absolutely suck? I just came from a Blackberry Storm and while that phone is horrid, at least they got the Facebook implementation down. The Android app doesn't seem to pick up any notifications or events and I have yet to figure out what the HTC Sense version does other than sync Facebook pictures and spam my phonebook with people I never talk to. Let me give you some examples of my frustration: Someone invites me to an event. On Blackberry: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox but BB filters it out and it shows up as a notification in the Facebook app. I can open up the notification, see all of the event information in the app, including a description, who's invited and it is automatically added to my phone's calendar, along with all relevant information. On Droid Incredible: The Facebook e-mail shows up in my gmail inbox as an e-mail. No notification because the Facebook app polls. I open the app and refresh everything (notifications, inbox, friends etc) but the event doesn't show up. With no other choice, I open up the link in the inbox and it brings me to the Facebook Touch (not mobile) site, which only shows the bare minimum information (time and place). No idea how to add it to my calendar other than manually typing in all of the information......

I am using Facebook app on my new samsung captivate. I have set the refresh interval at 30 minutes. and notifications checked (active). i have chosen messages, Pokes, Friend Requests and event invites all checked green under notification settings. For some reason, whenever i receive a friend request, i dont get notified under my notification bar. I always see that when i open the application. I was hoping to get notification without opening the app. do i need to do something to fix this? Or am i missing something very basic here.

I am developing an Android application for which I would like to add Facebook functionality using Facebook's Android SDK. I have registered the application and acquired the ID and Secret, but what is the point of the URL? Am I supposed to install something on my website on that specific URL so that I Facebook can do the OAuth key exchange?

Every time I receive a Facebook notification on my Incredible, what I can only describe as a slow song plays for a few seconds. I have no recollection of setting a mp3 for the notification sound and even if I did, the song is played so slowly that it is distorted. Does anyone else have this issue? Can't I just have the default notification sound play when I have a Facebook update? Sorry if I missed a thread somewhere, but I have been searching for quite a while and I am fearful that I am the only one with this problem.

This feature on my desire has never worked but im only just getting round to asking why. it happens when i get a facebook notification and drag down the notification pane from the top of the screen. when i get a "new poke" notification and tap the message it takes me to my facebook home page and i can respond to the poke, that works fine. however when i get a "new message" notification and i tap that it just redirects me to a blank page. ie the weblink doesnt work. is there anyway to edit the weblink for this notification so that it redirects me to my facebook homepage?

I got the Droid Razr Maxx when it came out and I am having an issue with Facebook for Android notifications. Whenever I receive a notification my phones both vibrates and makes the notification sound twice really fast. How can I change this to only have it do this once? It does it so fast that it cuts off the first one before the sound is finished. I don't have any special song or anything set as the notification just one of the standard ones on the phone.

I'm not really sure what to do about this screen. I started getting a notification that seems to come from the official app (I long tapped, and checked the notification info), but this "update" apparently needs to be side loaded onto the system instead of installed through the Play Store. SCH-I605

I've just linked all my contacts in my address book to their facebook accounts. For each of my contact in address book there's a little green icon near the name, with a number that indicates the number of "unread" notifications. There's some method for deleting these icons without reading all the notifications of all my contacts? Or their disappear by their selves after some time? I don't want to see for each of my contacts this icons that indicates me to read dozens of notifications.

I have a Prestigio Multipad 3670B running Jelly Bean. The Facebook app is configured to play notification sound upon receiving message etc., but no sound ever plays. The notification appears in the status bar, though. I have tried to reasearch the problem, but search involving the keyword prestigio doesn't yield much and in the general case, the problem is mostly reverse, i.e. the notifications popping up when they shouldn't.

I am trying to create a facebook chat android app based on the information here: http://davanum.wordpress.com/2008/12/29/updated-xmpp-client-for-android/ [the source code can be downloaded right after the screenshots]
The app and code works just fine when I try to login to the gmail xmpp instant messaging server. However I cant get myself to login to the facebook chat server.
I used this: [url] in my configuration so:
facebook chat server: chat.facebook.com port: 5222 service: chat.facebook.com I'm not entirely sure about this so I have tried without the service parameter: ConnectionConfiguration connConfig = new ConnectionConfiguration(host, Integer.parseInt(port)); username: I have tried both: <my fb username> and <my fb username>@chat.facebook.com password: <my fb password>
I have noticed the request for no ssl so just in case I added to the code: connConfig.setSASLAuthenticationEnabled(false);

I am working on an Android app where we enter some text in edit box and all I want to do is simply send the text which typed (i.e. edittext.gettext()) to Facebook as my status. The important thing is I don't want a Facebook dialog box to pop up, instead ,just send the message as status without a dialog box. Is there any way I could post without a dialog box?

I had no clue what it was until I checked the nav bar, and saw it was a facebook update. Wow, I thought, maybe they fixed the facebook app in the background without forcing me to update. Haven't seen the blue light since, and it has been 2 days and 7-9 notifications later.
Any idea when they will fix the facebook app? Or better yet, any idea how I got it to light up once randomly? It was somebody posting a comment on my wall post fyi (and the notifications still don't refresh in the app itself). Also, why can't I view linked youtube videos from other peoples comments? Obviously the droid can use youtube, so it seems odd that they wouldn't let you watch posted videos.

So it's almost bed time here on the east coast... It's interesting enough to hear the "Droid..." notification (changeable, I know) every time a FB friend posts, I get a TXT or an e-mail. Problem is, I don't want to receive these at 3 in the morninig, nor do I want to turn off my sounds in case of a call or TXT that *is* important.
Any way to tell the Droid exactly when I want it to check facebook and e-mail? Old LG 10000 allowed you to set the times it checked for e-mail.

I'm a longtime iPhone user (since 3G) who just switched to Android and the Galaxy Note 3 this week. There are several things I miss about iOS, and one of them is badge notifications without the need for a 3rd party app. Ideally, when I'm due a notification from Facebook, I want only a badge notification on the app's icon, like you do in iOS, and I'm getting that with "Missed it!" installed. However, I don't want an actual notification (via audible tone and indicator) in the notification bar. Is it possible to disable notifications via the notification bar, but still have it display a badge notification on the icon?

I came up with what I think is a unique idea for an application, and I would like to see if everyone here can help me decide if it's possible or not. I'm somewhat familiar with the SDK, but not very experienced. This would be my first application from scratch. I'm looking to you, developers, to help vet my idea and see if it's possible or not. Here's the idea: The application has 1 purpose: allow the user to manage which color LED to use for any application notifications? This would include things like: Facebook friend requests, new Emails, new SMS, other 3rd party applications, etc. Anything that has an associated notification LED, they should be able to select the color. I am assuming that my application can see which applications use the notification system, and inject itself somewhere in between.

I was wondering if there was a way to see who is or isn't using your application on Facebook. For example, sets say I have an application X that a user Y has just connected to. I want to find out if Y's friend Z has allowed X or not. Then, if friend Z has not allowed/used X with Facebook before.I want to invite that friend to use X.Is there any way to do this using the GraphAPI and the Facebook-android-sdk?
