i am developing one small app, in that i have to find out whether device is connected to wifi or mobile network internet(GPRS/3G/HDSPA) and after that i have to find speed of the internet.
if it is connected to wifi we can easily get the speed of the net.but for mobile network internet (GPRS/3G/HDSPA) i am not getting how to find the speed of internet

Right basically you can find the UK T mobile internet settings on the T mobile website. On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

Downloads are also working fine, but when i press 'home' button and go to home screen, the speed goes down to zero, but internet is connected. When I again switch back to browser, speed goes up.
This happens even when I lock screen. And even my gmail and google play apps are not working

HTC G2 appearance wise look like the Nexus 2, but hardware it's a different beast. i just saw this HSPA+ result from android central and i cant believe. T-mobile might have the worst coverage, but where i live, it's pretty damage good and comparable to Sprint 4G. But seeing this, it totally blew my mind away. Is it possible??
View 4 Replies View RelatedHas anyone here had experience with Sprints internet speed slowing down? I have 2 Samsung Moments and the internet speed was great for months. A couple weeks ago they both slowed to a crawl. I have noticed that this is in the area that I live (Chesterfield, MI) and if I am in other areas it works pretty well. As soon as I get home it is crap. No Pandora, nothing streaming works for crap, and even basic pages like Craigslist take a minute or so to load.
An internet speed test usually shows around 100 or less kb/s for downloading and 200-300 for uploading. Download speeds were at least 500 before this snafu.
Maybe a tower out or something? I thought of calling Sprints customer care, but from previous experience with real technical questions, I don't think I will get anything more than a "company" answer.

Anyway he was on this website to check his internet speed on his pre and so I wanted to check mine. I was averaging ~500kbps and I hit 1000kbps once. But my friend, he was averaging 8.5MBps, yes MBps. Obviously same network, at the same time. What up wit dat?
We also tried to go to websites we had never been to at the same time and he was beating me pretty handly. Anyway, I wanted to see what you guys were getting? Site is mobilespeedtest.com, then it run test and post results! Whoa, just did it right now and I got 1311kbps.
Is anyone experiencing slow connection speeds when using the EVO mobile hotspot. From the Evo phone itself, I am getting 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds. When I connect my laptop or ipad, I am getting max 500 kb/s download speeds on them. The phone continues to get 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds while hotspot is on. I have tried different wireless security settings but all seem to exhibit the same behavior. Any thoughts on how to rectify this? I am assuming the mobile hotspot should be providing download speeds comparable with the native EVO connection.

And when it does connect, it (a) either doesn't work at all (browser, speed test, nothing registers an internet connection) or (b) works for a minute, then (a) happens. I' ve been using a lot my Desire these days and absolutely love it.I surf the Internet a lot and just wanted to make sure if I get it all right:
1. If I only use the Mobile Network Internet on my phone that means I am using the Internet my provider (Orange in this case) gives me per month. I have 1GB limited Interned each month and therefore surfing the web through the Mobile Network option means I am draining from that 1GB limit.
2. If I only use the Wi-Fi Internet (when Mobile Network is OFF) on the phone that means I connect to (in this case) my home Internet router and use it to access Internet and therefore do not drain any of the 1GB limit I have per month.
Is that right? I use Internet a lot and don't want to end up paying huge bills to Orange.And last question- what happens if both options (Mobile Network and Wi-Fi) are turned ON? What Internet will I be using- Orange's or the one from my home Internet router?
A friend of mine has just bought one, and cannot connect to the internet using his SIM card at all. He can receive calls fine but for some reason the mobile internet does not work even though his SIM is enabled for it. His phone does not have Market, but SlideMe, which suggests it is a Malaysian Hero (I think)? I don't know if this is the reason.
I tried my SIM card in his Hero and, again, it will not connect to mobile internet. I checked the settings and under Mobile Network Settings/Access Point Names there is nothing and none of the fields are completed (I never had to set this up on my Hero, it was automatically completed by my SIM Card/Provider once switched on).
Have a HTC Hero locked to orange but I'm currently using it on o2 PAYG via a rebel SIM (o2 claim not to support the hero). Have never had functioning MMS and mobile internet although I can connect using wireless. I have changed my APN settings.

I can use WiFi no trouble and I know that the apps can access the internet as I installed one from the Android Market no trouble. However the sim works fine making calls, and using the wifi, but I cannot access the mobile internet. Three have told me the mobile is not compatible as it is not a three phone. I would prefer my HTC to connect only periodically. For example every 15 minutes to check my emails and sync my calendar. Is that possible? I think the battery life would much be better if we could do that, and I personally don't need my mobile phone to be connected to the internet 24 hours a day!

Today though I can't get any mobile internet - intermittently telling me 'Orange internet disabled'. Doesn't matter where I go and other half's Sony Ericsson is still getting a good connection with Orange. Mobile network is enabled in settings, no difference whether network is WCDMA/GSM/auto. What's going on??!? Can someone advise please.
PROBLEM SOLVED - somehow the APN had been changed to Orange Internet Disabled so restoring default setting seemed to sort it. No idea why it set itself to 'disabled' though. Can't reproduce it myself anyway!

The 3G icon is also present.When, For example, I try to go onto the Market the connection seems very poor. The 3G icon will get the arrows showing that 3G data is being transferred and sometimes it will drop down to a H icon.I then get the message "A network error has occurred, retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen".This happens with all other apps, internet etc as well.I bought the phone with a orange PAYG from Carphone warehouse and put my Orange Monthly pay sim in.When I am outside or even in a different area of the office the internet works fine.If my phone was showing 1 bar and no 3G icon I would accept that it is just too bad signal in the office but as I have nearly full signal and the 3G icon is there another problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently brought a HTC Hero from Three (3) mobile on PAYG, unlocked it with no problems and got myself a sim only contract with T-Mobile.However I am trying to access the internet over the t-mobile network and it wont let me get anywhere, always bringing up the 'Web page is not availiable' screen. I have no issues running the internet over wi-fi and I am receiving calls and texts over the t-mobile network so I assume its not a sim issue (the contract includes data allowance btw). Also the sim that 3 mobile gave me with the phone accesses mobile internet perfectly.Does anyone on here have any suggestions as to what things I could try to rectify this problem.

I'll it admit that I'm a little puzzled after staring at the APN settings for a while and adding the ips etc still not getting any luck. 2degrees (my provider) have attempted ota delivery but no luck. I got my HTC Hero the other day and am very very happy with it. The only problem is that I cannot connect to the internet through "Mobile Network". I am on a "3" contract and I am able to access "my 3" which is where I can look at my account, look at my last bill, check my usage, etc. I can also connect to 3 - Home - that loads fine. But any other website (google, bbc, facebook, etc.) will not load - it just times out after a while.
It seams obvious to me that this is an issue with my account on 3. I don't know how many hours I've been on the phone to these guys. I have gone through all the settings with them, more than twice - replaced my SIM card and tried my SIM in another phone. So Three are now looking into it and have passed my issue onto the network's team, now they said that it may take up to 21 days for someone to get back to me!
Purchased a HTC Wildfire the other week and i didn't know it was contracted to 3 network so i paid to unlock it so i could put my orange SIM inside it. However after connecting my phone to my router via WiFi all seemed well until i went out and attempted to use my mobile Internet. I've set up the vpn for Orange Internet but still not able to use browser market etc. Wondering if anyone has ideas?
