Android :: G2 Speed On T-Mobile's HSPA
Sep 29, 2010
HTC G2 appearance wise look like the Nexus 2, but hardware it's a different beast. i just saw this HSPA+ result from android central and i cant believe. T-mobile might have the worst coverage, but where i live, it's pretty damage good and comparable to Sprint 4G. But seeing this, it totally blew my mind away. Is it possible??

Trying out a vibrant. The T-Mo rep told me it used the hspa plus network. Now i read the the first hspa plus phone for T-Mo will the HTC vision/vibrant. Was i lied to? It is a bit of a moot point, if the vision/vanguard has a bigger screen and real keyboard i will be re boxing the vibrant and limping the G1 into September.

thinkbroadband.com have made available an android speed tester. I always thought my mobile broadband speeds were bad: now I have confirmation. Both upload and download were 0.02mbps. (My wifi speed was, as I expected, my normal 9mbps.) Mobile broadband is really poor - hardly usable.

Is anyone experiencing slow connection speeds when using the EVO mobile hotspot. From the Evo phone itself, I am getting 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds. When I connect my laptop or ipad, I am getting max 500 kb/s download speeds on them. The phone continues to get 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds while hotspot is on. I have tried different wireless security settings but all seem to exhibit the same behavior. Any thoughts on how to rectify this? I am assuming the mobile hotspot should be providing download speeds comparable with the native EVO connection.

Right basically you can find the UK T mobile internet settings on the T mobile website. On the Speed Test app, the highest speeds I get are 1.8m/bs downloads and around 500kpbs upload. However, those were at off peak times at night etc (probably when nobody is using the net).Generally I get anything from 0.3 m/bs to 0.9 m/bs though. Lately I've been experiencing some inconsistent internet speeds and reconnection attempts so for I've gone back to the default settings. Tbh though I'm not sure if it makes much difference.

I was just thinking yesterday about download speeds and such and I remembered, just 10 years ago a T1 line was the standard for any real business to have internet access. T1 was so expensive also. only the people with real money could afford one to their home. T1 is a dedicated 1.5Mbps.
I could do anything I wanted with a T1 line.
Wimax will give me more then a T1. Why do I care about theoretical speeds that HSPA+ or LTE will give me? I don't.

I have my Desire on the Telus network, and I noticed that the icon on the top bar shows and "H" instead of 3G. Is 3G the same has HSPA? I know Telus runs the HSPA+ network but I'm just wondering if there is something wrong with my settings or device.

I always thought H to signify HSPA, which is normally what shows as my connection when in areas of good reception for O2 in the UK, so why does it sometimes show up with 3G? is that not the same thing, isint HSPA 3G?

I bought a Htc Desire which is a Telus phone it is supposed to be unlocked and runs on Hspa 1900mhz and 850 mhz, but Sasktel's website says that it doesn't seem to be compatible. So the question is why? It appears this device is not compatible with the SaskTel 3G+ network. If you believe your device should be compatible and the tool does not recognize it, please bring it to a SaskTel store or authorized dealer for more information.

Sprint Nextel Corporation - Investor Relations - RSS Content. Kudos to Sprint, this is coming just in time for the March Madness, which is great! I hope this has been tested for enough viewer capacity because it sure will be tested by every Sprint TV customer. I am watching Lafayette v. Lehigh game live. I can definitely wait for Sprint to prepare another app to replace NFL Mobile Live for before the Football games start. Hope this is the beginning for a long season of good news from Sprint, Android 2.1 should be around the corner.

Android Version: 2.2 T-Mobile branded
Network: Base - a brand of e-plus, Germany
Taskiller Used: None
Issue: Switch on tethering OR mobile hotspot ->mobile network dies
I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.

Recently I logged into GMail with my browser instead of the GMail app, and discovered what I've read before elsewhere... that the GMail mobile web page seems cooler and better, than the app.
So, I've been thinking... which is better? Is either better? Can they both be equally good?
Either way, it occurred to me, it's interesting that all the Android blogs fall all over themselves almost weekly to come out with various "Best X Android Apps" articles, but I don't think I've seen any articles about the best mobile web pages for Android (or any smart phone for that matter).
I understand the money is to be made in apps, and that not much can (yet) be done with the web that you can do with an app (until we have workable Flash?) but surely there must be some great mobile sites out there that are better than, or equal to, apps?
I'm appealing to all of you then to make your suggestions for Best or at least good mobile web pages to use on our Android phones. I'll be looking around myself, and will possibly turn the results into a blog post of my own.
Here are a couple of starters that seem to be better than the app versions:
- Gmail: nicer interface, quick access to GTalk and Buzz as well as Calender, etc.
- Evernote: www.evernote.com/m Evernote has a really good mobile web site in case you don't want to download the app.

I have a static background image, and a foreground that needs to be animated. I tried a couple different approaches but the animation seemed choppy. One thing I did was having 2 different views, constantly calling invalidate() on the foreground view. Another was to have only 1 surfaceview, redrawing the background image and the foreground on each step of the animation.
While a surfaceview offers an optimal way to do heavy-duty animation, having to redraw the background every time kills the performance. Neither produced a smooth animation. What is the best way to perform this kind of animation - static background and animated foreground?

It came in handy as each person was assigned his or her birthdate. Now with my high tech phone I only have 9? Please tell me there's a way. There must be seeing as 86 is speed dial.

so I've been waiting for 4G in minnesota for a while now for my epic. They haven't announced it yet but. They've been. Tinkering with the towers lately and I've been seeing sme 4G coverage here are my mobile speed test results I was surprised considering I've been reading about people saying its more like 3 and a half G with speeds not much greater than 3G I realize however that right now there's almost 0 congestion and bandwith will slow considerably however the froyo update should even that out So what are your speeds?

I have just started with development and would like to ask if Android's QEMU emulator uses any type of hardware acceleration.I made a simple Android program that extends the WebView activity and loads a webpage at start. That's all it does.It takes 35 seconds to cold start the emulator and acitivity from the Eclipse IDE. It takes 12 seconds to reload the acitivity when emulator is already up & running.Do you think these numbers are normal? Is there any possibility to speed up the emulation speed of QEMU?I can try to answer to this question myself. In the past, I used QEMU with KQEMU kernel module that remarkably boosted the emulation speed on X86 hardware. But Android runs on ARM CPU (not Intel or AMD CPU), so KQEMU module cannot be used here.My PC is Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00GHz. 4GB RAM. Running Eclipse IDE 3.5 (Galileo) on 64 bit Ubuntu Linux 9.04.
