HTC Hero :: Accessing Internet Using Mobile Network
Oct 4, 2010
I recently brought a HTC Hero from Three (3) mobile on PAYG, unlocked it with no problems and got myself a sim only contract with T-Mobile.However I am trying to access the internet over the t-mobile network and it wont let me get anywhere, always bringing up the 'Web page is not availiable' screen. I have no issues running the internet over wi-fi and I am receiving calls and texts over the t-mobile network so I assume its not a sim issue (the contract includes data allowance btw). Also the sim that 3 mobile gave me with the phone accesses mobile internet perfectly.Does anyone on here have any suggestions as to what things I could try to rectify this problem.

I got my HTC Hero the other day and am very very happy with it. The only problem is that I cannot connect to the internet through "Mobile Network". I am on a "3" contract and I am able to access "my 3" which is where I can look at my account, look at my last bill, check my usage, etc. I can also connect to 3 - Home - that loads fine. But any other website (google, bbc, facebook, etc.) will not load - it just times out after a while.
It seams obvious to me that this is an issue with my account on 3. I don't know how many hours I've been on the phone to these guys. I have gone through all the settings with them, more than twice - replaced my SIM card and tried my SIM in another phone. So Three are now looking into it and have passed my issue onto the network's team, now they said that it may take up to 21 days for someone to get back to me!

I have the G2 Touch on T-Mobile and it comes with "unlimited internet" but the fair usage policy is 4GB. I was wondering how much internet usage would I need to do to get close to this and is it even possible to use this much?

I seem to be seeing an issue with the data network access on the EVO. When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?

I' ve been using a lot my Desire these days and absolutely love it.I surf the Internet a lot and just wanted to make sure if I get it all right:
1. If I only use the Mobile Network Internet on my phone that means I am using the Internet my provider (Orange in this case) gives me per month. I have 1GB limited Interned each month and therefore surfing the web through the Mobile Network option means I am draining from that 1GB limit.
2. If I only use the Wi-Fi Internet (when Mobile Network is OFF) on the phone that means I connect to (in this case) my home Internet router and use it to access Internet and therefore do not drain any of the 1GB limit I have per month.
Is that right? I use Internet a lot and don't want to end up paying huge bills to Orange. And last question- what happens if both options (Mobile Network and Wi-Fi) are turned ON? What Internet will I be using- Orange's or the one from my home Internet router?

Excuse me if this is due to my poor understanding of mobile internet. When in my office at work the signal bars on my phone will be either 2 or 3 out of 4. The 3G icon is also present. When, For example, I try to go onto the Market the connection seems very poor. The 3G icon will get the arrows showing that 3G data is being transferred and sometimes it will drop down to a H icon.I then get the message "A network error has occurred, retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen".This happens with all other apps, internet etc as well.I bought the phone with a orange PAYG from Carphone warehouse and put my Orange Monthly pay sim in.When I am outside or even in a different area of the office the internet works fine.If my phone was showing 1 bar and no 3G icon I would accept that it is just too bad signal in the office but as I have nearly full signal and the 3G icon is there another problem?

I just got a Hero, its really cool, but I'm worried about how much data this thing is going to eat up. I've got a 500MB limit, but I dont really know how long that will last. So heres a few questions
How do I know if the phone is accessing the internet through WiFi or not? Obviously WiFi doesnt count towards the limit, so I want to know that I'm using it as often as possible.
Do widgets on the home page count towards your data limit? I've got a weather widget, facebook, bbc news, email, all getting their info from the internet. Is this going to be raking up the MBs while the phone is just sat in my pocket?
Is there a number I can ring to see how much data I've used? I'm with Orange. A number to call to check my texts and minutes would be helpful, too.

I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

I just have a couple of quick questions regarding the 500MB anytime mobile internet browsing per month which I got included in my plan. When I use my Hero to go on the internet via my wifi at home- when it connects to my wireless router- does that count towards the 500mb or is that totally free? If so, is it the 3G when I don't have a wifi connection available that goes towards that 500mb? Sorry if it's a little obvious, but I don't wanna be going over my limit on internet and be paying a stupidly high amount!

I would like to use my Hero (unlocked, unbranded UK version, 2.73 software on T-Mobile) to access the net when out and about with my MacBook (10.6 SnowLeopard).
Will this work just by connecting a USB cable and enabling mobile betwork sharing, or am I going to need the PDANet app?
(I know I could just try this when I get home, but I'm sure someone else must have tried and can save me the trouble )

I am having a few issues with my Hero on Vodafone and am looking to see if anyone else has ever experienced any similar issues, as they're starting to drive me crazy!First and foremost is an issue of trying to dial out and make a call. A simple function that's failing to play ball.Basically I try to make phone calls and the phone just beeps and refuses to do even try, it just simply ends the attempt. This has been happening for the past few months and I've found the remedy to be simply switching off the mobile network option. However this is highly annoying when trying to make a call in hurry, or having done this not being able to have apps running in the background as I've forgotten to turn the network back on!I am having this issue even when there are no downloaded apps running at all, simply the com.htc.provider/calendar/messages, etc. I am using TasKiller to monitor this and therefore there should be NO mobile network activity.Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Finally has anyone been able to get mms to work on the Vodafone network yet? I've have tweaked the APN's sooo many times and have tried the settings that are in the sticked thread. Any thoughts, as Vodafone and HTC support offer no help whatsoever.

A friend of mine has just bought one, and cannot connect to the internet using his SIM card at all. He can receive calls fine but for some reason the mobile internet does not work even though his SIM is enabled for it. His phone does not have Market, but SlideMe, which suggests it is a Malaysian Hero (I think)? I don't know if this is the reason.
I tried my SIM card in his Hero and, again, it will not connect to mobile internet. I checked the settings and under Mobile Network Settings/Access Point Names there is nothing and none of the fields are completed (I never had to set this up on my Hero, it was automatically completed by my SIM Card/Provider once switched on).

I just bought a Hero today, and it looks like if it's always connected to mobile internet. The "E" icon is always there. What does that mean? I would prefer my HTC to connect only periodically. For example every 15 minutes to check my emails and sync my calendar. Is that possible? I think the battery life would much be better if we could do that, and I personally don't need my mobile phone to be connected to the internet 24 hours a day!

Is anyone else having issues connecting to mobile network?I'm running Fresh 2.1.2. My network hasn't connected any today. I can't even toggle the mobile network widget. When I go to Settings Wireless, Mobile network is grayed our and it says "Turning on..." below it.I saw in another thread to cycle the network off and on. I have to do this through a long press on the power button, but it doesn't ever connect. Is this a phone issue, or could there be network problems in my area?

I don't know if it was a settings app (Quick Settings by Sergey) from the android market that caused it, but after uninstalling that app (the only other one i use right now is the lock screen widget - which i just uninstalled), i can't turn the mobile network on. i've tried the airplane mode trick, gone into settings, soft reset, etc. any ideas in the manage applications? i'd rather not do another hard reset (had to for the google account). i called htc and they were useless - with no trouble shooting, they recommended a hard reset and to not download apps! btw, i'm on a non-rooted phone.

I've just discovered there is a widget for turning mobile network on and off which is fantastic as I've been looking for one in the market, cos I'm sick of doing it the long winded way. The only thing is, it doesn't work..... If you long press the home screen its under htc widgets, then settings. Has anyone else got one and does it work for them?
