View 5 RepliesWhat is the best way to tell if you lost your root access? I updated my from darch 2.7 to 2.8, and just wanna make sure all is still good. I did it from the Darch updater via my phone. The adjust brightness program that that requires root access works but wireless tether doesn't seem to work. Does my have to be a certain level for the tether to work? It was at 14 percent or some thing like that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I've rooted my Hero, flashed a custom ROM, flashed a custom kernel, and then I downloaded some root-requiring apps (namely setCPU and Wifi Tether). However, whenever I open these apps, they do not ask me for Superuser Permissions!
For example, when I open setCPU, it says "No root access detected. Are applications allowed access to root? Operating in read-only mode." How do I fix this?
Is there a free app that will reboot the phone without having root access?
View 3 Replies View Relatedif i can root my device to gain full access but remain stock? Im wondering if i root the device can i gain full access, delete unnecessary sprint apps that i dont use but keep the default rom and not have to flash? Is it the rooting that gives full access or the flash to a custom rom?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've got a Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 (.6 and not .5 as required for unrevoked). All I want is root access (no custom roms) for some applications (mainly WiFi tether). I'm a complete noob to rooting and what I gathered from the guides is that all data is erased. Is there any way (regardless of how complicated) such taht I don't lose any data/apps and just gain root access?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a sprint galaxy s4 (SPH-L720)
BUILD # JSS15J.L720VPUEMK2 ANDROID:4.3
I went through odin v.3 the (COM) spot was lite blue not yellow idk if that matters but it passed and installed cwm custom recovery just like it should, I then installed superuser.zip onto my .sd card and went into custom recover and installed superuser file. the only thing wrong I sawe there is that it failed to verify the signatures? but other than that it said successful/pass all that good stuff and when I turned my phone on and checked the root status it says no root access and superuser not found!!!
Now this is not the first time ive rooted a phone, im no expert by any means but I have successfully rooted and flashed roms to many gs4's with the same computer/odin version/root files...
I can see the root within native file managers, but I am unaware of a way to see it from my PC, is there SSH or something similar I can use?
What are useful folders to know? Like where apps are stored and can be customized, files I can mod or anything else of interest.
I recently rooted my phone and was wondering how to install custom themes and lock screens for my hero. I am new to this as the title implies, so a link/instructions on how to install/create these would be what I'm looking for. I also am looking for solutions that do not need to install a new ROM as I just want to mod the current one that I have since i haven't found one I like. I rooted the 2.27.651.5 official sprint software with the instructions from the xda forum here: [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the upcoming Android 2.1 update to the Sprint Hero will allow us to save apps to the SD card without having to root the phone? And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwell I successfully have my phone rooted and was finally going to get around to installing a new ROM on my phone today. However when I tried to make a nandroid backup my phone wouldn't start up into the recovery thing to let me make a backup, instead it would just sit at the white and green HTC page indefinitely until I would pull the battery at. Any ideas on how to fix this?
View 19 Replies View RelatedAm new to smartphones so bear with me! I've got a few questions about using my Hero to access my email:
1) If I setup the phone to access my email accounts what types of vunerabilities am I opening myself to?
2) If I lost my phone (or it was stolen) could someone read my passwords ... how are passwords stored on the phone?
3) Is it safer to access my email provider thru the browser?
I can't access my Facebook photos using the HTC Album app or any other HTC app like contacts, but I can access all photos of my friends (except for one friend). I've played around with the settings on Facebook, but I don't know if I'm missing anything. I've also been able to access all of my photos and all of photos of my friends (including the one mentioned above) using the BFF Photo app for Android.I can access all my photos from Flickr just fine, and I can upload pictures to Facebook just fine using Facebook for Android, but I just can't view MY photos using any HTC app. I can also update my status just fine using the HTC Facebook app. Any ideas on things I should check?

Did i do something wrong? is tethering required after rooting to maintain network access? my texts and calls come through ok. i honestly don't remember if i received my daily agenda via e-mail or not today.
I am trying to log onto my company website to check my email. I click on the intranet link and received a message that says "there is a problem with the security certificate for this site." It gives me an option to continue or cancel. I click on the continue button and the page says "You are not authorized to view this page. Your web browser is sending a WWW-authenticate header field that the web server is not configured to accept. Http error 401.2-unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration".
I don't have this problem on my iphone. My friend has a sprint Palm phone and it doesn't have this issue either. My other coworker uses a verizon Android phone and it doesn't have any issues accessing the website. Sprint duplicated the error at tech support with another Hero phone and advised it is the companies website and not sprint. I contacted my company and they advised it is isolated to the HTC Hero phone.
Because I use gmail my contacts list on google is an insane mess...to deal with this I have my hero only sync my contacts in a group called, obviously enough "Contacts" - this is great - it gives me just the phone numbers of the people I actually call and speak with....but occasionally I do need to access a contact that I don't want saved to my permanent contact list...how do I view these contacts? Is there a way?

Okay so i did the the unrevoked method of rooting my htc hero and it worked fine for a couple months however one morning my phone reset it self and the superuser permissions icon in the apps tray was gone. I tried running through the steps to root it again (How to root your CDMA HTC HERO running Android 2.1 (Windows) | MacHackPC) but the superuser icon never came back. I'm not sure what to do, I even tried pressing the on button and the home to select flash from recovery and that didn't work either. any idea how i can get my phone re-rooted?
