HTC EVO 4G :: Root Access - Unrevoked Method To Grant Superuser Access For Apps
Jun 23, 2010
I even tried flashing a custom rom (Fresh) on the last attempt and it just seems like it is giving me the Sprint stock Rom. Shouldn't the custom Rom look different? Once rooted do I still need to use Unrevoked method to grant superuser access for Apps?

I used with some success the new "one click" method from the guys at unrEVOked and when I start my phone in the bootloader I'm still getting the stock one. I thought it was suppose to take me to the clockworksmod. Maybe I'm confused, anyone else had this issue? Am I missing something here?

It seems that I accidentally changed the ownership of the su file to "system, sdcard_rw" and now I have no way to change it back to "root, root". Everything was working fine beforehand. I have already attempted to reroot using the same way I originally rooted the device and hard reset with no luck.
My phone information
Phone: LG Optimus Slider
Android version: 2.3.4

How to make android 4.0.4 devices rooted by superuser?
I open my superuser:
downloading manifest okay
parsing manifest okay
latest version 3.1.1
checked install version 3.1.1
fixing database okay
unpacking sutools okay
check current install path= /system/xbin/su
Downloading new binary okay
gaining root access fail
I have my device rooted by means of UnlockRoot, at first I think the version of superuser is low. So I download Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip , exact it and replace the old version superuser and su .
I click the root on the software and it seems that everything work. But the fact is that I can't find superuser in my android devices and manually install superuser by myself. And then the phenomenon above appears. It seems that I have rooted the devices and I can't get root access. It is more dangerous than I don't root the devices.

I don't even care about the relatively short battery life. So I finally rooted the phone, narrowly avoiding disaster along the way. And now I'm like "now what?"
Obviously there is a wi-fi tether out there. And then there is the overclock. But I'm wondering what other apps you can use with a rooted phone that you otherwise can't. Are there paid apps out there that require root access? In other words, what's the big deal? Why do we root our phones?
This is an honest question. I'm not suggesting that it's not worth it - just trying to learn more about android. I'm a convert from Blackberry and I'm not going back.

So I've rooted my Hero, flashed a custom ROM, flashed a custom kernel, and then I downloaded some root-requiring apps (namely setCPU and Wifi Tether). However, whenever I open these apps, they do not ask me for Superuser Permissions!
For example, when I open setCPU, it says "No root access detected. Are applications allowed access to root? Operating in read-only mode." How do I fix this?

I have a broadcast receiver that needs to notify a service that it has received a text message. The only way to do this (as far as I know) is a static method. But the method that is notified need access to the application's preferences.
Every method I have tried says that it cannot be accessed from a static method. So how do I access preferences from a static method?

The View class has a compute Scroll method whose documentation states: Called by a parent to request that a child update its values for mScrollX and mScrollY if necessary. This will typically be done if the child is animating a scroll using a Scroller object. See
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#compute...
I am using the 1.5 SDK and I do not have access from within my application to the mScrollX and mScrollY protected member variables of the View class. However, I must have a custom scroller object for my view.

I would like to access the public method of an Activity run by a TabActivity using: Code...
Basically, what I what is to let the parent Activity call a method in child Activity in order to do something. Is this possible?
I did try this:((TeamHuddleScreenMsgsView)getTabHost().getCurrentTabView().getContext()).refreshModel(); but I'm encountering a ClassCastException. It seems that the getContext() still gives the TabActivity. Any help on how to get the child Activity?

How do I find the users available Google Calendars and then create an event in one of those calendars?
Direct access to the Calendar on the handset is for some unknown bizarre reason UNSUPPORTED and not documented and untestable unless you have EVERY single device and ROM. Therefore blind development, cr4p for users and cr4p when you have to blame Google.
Aren't we developing apps to help users with their day-to-day things? Accessing and creating events in a calendar ON THE HANDSET would sem like a logical day-to-day thing to do?
Anyway so I turned to the GDATA API. However the documentation bears no resemblance to anything available for the android SDK. The documented classes stated to be available to be used for Calendar access are not available in the downloadable libraries!?!?!? http://code.google.com/apis/calendar/data/2.0/developers_guide_java.html
So my question, how do I find the users available Google Calendars and then create an event in one of those calendars from an Android app?
Any links posted which say 'see here' please make sure the code is valid for android! :)
(code examples would be great - oh and preferably using the users credentials on the handset to login to the Calendar).

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

I can see the root within native file managers, but I am unaware of a way to see it from my PC, is there SSH or something similar I can use?
What are useful folders to know? Like where apps are stored and can be customized, files I can mod or anything else of interest.

I've been real happy so far with Stock N1 and universal androot. I love the root apps.
Now that the update is out (2.2.1. frg83) I wanted to update and still have root access on stock. I was not able to update because I had deleted stock apps like amazon, twitter, etc., with titanium. I had to flash a stock ROM and then update to 2.2.1 worked, but no root access.
I even unlocked the bootloader to see if that would give me instant root but it didn't.
How can I go about getting root access on my n1 with 2.2.1.? I want to run a stock ROM and use rooted apps like titanium. Also to get future updates like gingerbread OTA. I do not want a custom ROM like cyanogen. Just stock 2.2.1. with root access. Whats the easiest way to achieve this? I tried installing amon ra, and it still wouldn't give me root access, couldn't install superuser, busybox, etc.

adb push <local> sdcard .... when the sdcard of emulator is read only.. Is this some kind of mockery or sarcasm with the users?

This is now the second day that I'm trying to root my Evo 4G. So far, I've unlocked the bootloader using the htcdev.com method, but I can't get root access. I think my problem is an old version of hboot (0.99.0001, got it from latest HTC software update [2.3.4]), since the Revolutionary tool is saying that my version isn't supported. I've looked all over for how to update my hboot to 2.15 or 2.16, but nothing has worked. I still have S-ON.
I've tried flashing Amon Ra via command prompt (hangs on "waiting for device") and using the Android Flasher program (hangs on "please wait while your phone is flashed"). I've followed all the steps in the first method on this guide (androidforums com/evo-4g-all-things-root/488901-revised-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html, but to no avail.
How in the world do I go about rooting this thing? Or even just updating my hboot version?

What is the best way to tell if you lost your root access? I updated my from darch 2.7 to 2.8, and just wanna make sure all is still good. I did it from the Darch updater via my phone. The adjust brightness program that that requires root access works but wireless tether doesn't seem to work. Does my have to be a certain level for the tether to work? It was at 14 percent or some thing like that.
