Android is 'open'. Yet google doesn't provide codec support to the de facto mpeg4 container of the last 6-7 years? How is it that my antiquated WinMo 5 SDA can play back xvid, and my new smartphone can't? Microsoft does, yet their handsets can play xvid. Fudge converting to mp4/aac. imo.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I first ran across PhoneGap, I was excited because I envisioned simply dropping in the URL of a mobile site and simply updating the mobile site to use the devices capabilities when available.
Alas, it seems it is not that easy.
From what I understand (and I could be incorrect), any HTML/JS access to the device's hardware is limited to local 'pages'. So essentially create a HTML/JS local 'web' app to access the 'real' mobile web app by AJAX like calls. It seems a little redundant (at least to me) when the point is to simply extend the interface an existing mobile site.
Not trying to knock PhoneGap here, just wondering if there's a similar framework that allows a remote site to access the phone's hardware directly. Or if I've missed how that can be done with PhoneGap.
(Sure, I know "allows a remote site to access the phone's hardware directly" sounds scary - but the URL is hard-coded in the app, and HTTPS could provide authenticity. Of course, security is probably why this isn't supported by PhoneGap.)
While installiing "google play services" I got some error 919 "Incompatible with other applications(s) using the same shared user ID", for which i googled for solutions which said to uninstall Google service framework(GSF) then, install play services and then again install GSF.
when i tried to uninstall the GSF via "titanium backup" i was unable to do so. Hence i thought of converting it to an user app ,then take a backup of apk file and then uninstall it. While doing so, it was taking very much time, so i rebooted my phone, after which i did not found GSF in my apps list.
Now i'm not able to have an access to play store.
My GSF version was 4.0.1- 212031
I flashed my Hero installed a custom rom and still have no root access? anyone know why this would happen? I installedDamageControl v2.07.2

I did it from the Darch updater via my phone. The adjust brightness program that that requires root access works but wireless tether doesn't seem to work. Does my have to be a certain level for the tether to work? It was at 14 percent or some thing like that.

However when I tried to make a nandroid backup my phone wouldn't start up into the recovery thing to let me make a backup, instead it would just sit at the white and green HTC page indefinitely until I would pull the battery at. I can't access my Facebook photos using the HTC Album app or any other HTC app like contacts, but I can access all photos of my friends (except for one friend). I've played around with the settings on Facebook, but I don't know if I'm missing anything. I've also been able to access all of my photos and all of photos of my friends (including the one mentioned above) using the BFF Photo app for Android.I can access all my photos from Flickr just fine, and I can upload pictures to Facebook just fine using Facebook for Android, but I just can't view MY photos using any HTC app. I can also update my status just fine using the HTC Facebook app. Any ideas on things I should check?

I am trying to log onto my company website to check my email. I click on the intranet link and received a message that says "there is a problem with the security certificate for this site." It gives me an option to continue or cancel. I click on the continue button and the page says "You are not authorized to view this page. Your web browser is sending a WWW-authenticate header field that the web server is not configured to accept. Http error 401.2-unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration".
I don't have this problem on my iphone. My friend has a sprint Palm phone and it doesn't have this issue either. My other coworker uses a verizon Android phone and it doesn't have any issues accessing the website. Sprint duplicated the error at tech support with another Hero phone and advised it is the companies website and not sprint. I contacted my company and they advised it is isolated to the HTC Hero phone.
Because I use gmail my contacts list on google is an insane mess...to deal with this I have my hero only sync my contacts in a group called, obviously enough "Contacts" - this is great - it gives me just the phone numbers of the people I actually call and speak with....but occasionally I do need to access a contact that I don't want saved to my permanent contact list...how do I view these contacts? Is there a way?

For example, when I open setCPU, it says "No root access detected. Are applications allowed access to root? Operating in read-only mode." How do I fix this?
I can confirm that there is divx support and NO Xvid support.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to receive RTSP streaming video with g1. The video file I made was encoded using QuickTime pro, and they are progressive streamable with a hint track. Video is encoded in H.264, and audio is encoded in AAC LC. File container is MP4. (They can be played via sdcard). I used Darwin Streaming Server to stream this file. With sample media player given from android, I changed 'path' to the address like "rtsp://172.29.10.109/test.mp4". The results are really odd. It sometimes (like once per 20~30 times) runs well, but in other times, only audio is played and video freezes after first 1~3 frames.

View 8 Replies View Relatedafter installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?
