Sprint HTC Hero :: Youmail Great App
Nov 25, 2010
Here is a small video showing you how to use Youmail voice mail service, it is free, and you can customize your greeting to each caller if you want, you can also list to your messages in several ways, from the phone app, from your email from your PC or phone, which is what I prefer. and it can also send you an email when you have a message or a text message, I personally do not use the phone app, I simply listen to my voice mails from my email. You will need to register and set it up, and then forward your voice mail to the Youmail message center, simple To forward you simply dial from your Sprint Phone *289095106169 and you will hear 2 quick beeps and your messages will go directly to Youmail service, to deactivate if you ever want, simply dial *38 and you will here 2 beeps again telling your phone has been deactivated from the Youmail service http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epuc9eyyf_Q

Seems to me everyone is so grateful for the Rom update that we haven't had time to be hacked off about it. I work in software and the size and number of these updates says to me that HTC knew about many of these issues before the handset shipped and were already working on fixes them. There is no way things like the camera upgrade are bug fixes found after go live. Someone (probably an accountant) decided that it was OK to ship even with the defects and that when they were fixed it was OK to have an update system that forced us all to completely rebuild our phones or partly rebuild them if we were prepared to buy a third party app to back them up.
If HTC seriously want to take on the Iphone they are going to have to be a lot slicker in future. Just having a great product is not good enough you need the whole package if you want mass market appeal. In the end they may have shot themselves in the foot. This update may have largely fixed the lag but all those early reviews are still out there and people considering this phone will still find them and be put off for months or years to come. Don't get me wrong I love it and would not change it for an Iphone or anything else I am just sad that such a great product has been so badly tainted by poor customer service and niggling faults.

So my battery life was pretty poor, i'd be lucky to get 5-8 hours with minimal use and playing around with 4G on occasion. I tried my wives Hero battery to see if it made a difference.. it didn't seem to. So after her phone charged my battery up I swapped back. Now with normal use, playing music with it in the car, browsing the web on occasion, doing speed tests 3G/4G, couple hours of phone calls, some games, messing around with the LEDs as a flash light i'm still at 30% with 1 Day 4 hours unplugged. What the heck happened with her phone charging my battery!? What an improvement! I made no other changes on the phone besides that. I'll see if after my own phone charges the battery if this lasts or if perhaps there is an issue with the phone charging the battery. Pretty odd, just thought i'd share and see if anyone has any ideas what could be happening.

Why does the youmail app not let my phone sleep? Background: Installed youmail app, realized battery was going FAST. Looked at awake time and it was 100%. Uninstalled all apps since the awake time debacle. awake time returns to normal. Re-install only youmaill app, awake time goes back to 100%. Go into preferences or settings, whatever and set for NO polling at all unless requested, no notifications, nothing. Awake time still 100%.Un-install youmail, awake time back to normal.I really like the app and the widget, someone tell me there is a way to fix this. I would like to re-install and use this app.

Just ordered my Droid X online. I'm coming from a BB Tour, and am excited to get more intimate with the Android OS . 1 thing I wanted to ask about though is Youmail. Has anyone come from a BB using Youmail and transferred it over to Android? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. Is it as simple as downloading the Youmail app on the Droid X and logging in, and boom everything is back to normal? Might be a stupid question, I just haven't heard much about Youmail on Android and switching between different OSs and such. Also, for those who switched from Youmail on BB to Android, are there any big differences? Is the app better/worse on Android?

I have been trying to activate either Voice or YouMail to no success. For both I am instructed to dial a *7 number and for both I get a Verizon nessage saying this feature update could not be completed. Calling Verizon of course is no help as they say they dont support third party applicatons. Why wont any of these numbers go through for me? I was using Youmail on my previous Stom with Verizon, but no it wont connect, and I just cant get Google Voice to recieve a message either. After setting up accounts with both I call my phone from a landline and leave a message and can only retrieve it by calling *86 (Verizon voice mail) from my cell phone. So its not forwarding. Any suggestions?

Since I am waiting to get my google voice invite, I am attempting to try this app. Has anyone been able to get it working on the Droid? When it dials the number to forward voice mails to the YouMail site I get a recording from Verizon to call Verizon customer service. Verizon customer service tells me to contact the app. While waiting for a response from the developer, does anyone here have any information? The code being used to attempt to forward voice mails is *71.

I need some help with the various visual voicemail services. I've done some searches and can't find what I'm looking for. All I want is to have my voicemails transcribed and available to be read, or even sent to an email or text or whatever.
What is the best service? Google Voice? Youmail? Will I have to change my outgoing message to set up the service? (in other words, will it affect those people calling me? Will they be able to tell?)
Finally, if I buy a Google Voice Invite, can I JUST use the visual voicemail feature? I have no need for the other features it offers.

after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

I have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings. If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

Please Post all Sprint Hero update rumors here. This not to be confused with the " Official 2.1 Thread. I would also sugest to our ever so patient moderators to move any post of this nature to this thread. Let's clean up the forum and when the update is out out we can get rid of all this with one flush.

I searched up Android 2.1 on Google and I Found a website with Sprint Hero - 2.1 leaked! "Website: Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 Upgrade Leaked" Rumors have been flying around the web about Spring releasing an official Android 2.1 upgrade for their HTC Hero mobile phone. The dates for the Android 2.1 upgrade for the Spring HTC Hero have been speculated to be either on April 29th, and others simply by the end of April. But according to BlogsDNA.com, hackers at XDA Developers forum have leaked a Sprint HTC Hero test ROM marked:
RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.20.651.1_signed_test The stands for Radio Unit Update, and is a common package that HTC phones of all kinds use, from Windows Mobile Phones to Android Roms.Without a doubt, the remaining days in the month of April building up to be full of high profile mobile phone announcements.Expected this month (April) are the HTC Incredible and Nexus One at Verizon, and now this, the Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 upgrade.
Rumors were also spreading about a possible iPhone / Verizon deal being announced. We ve already had the iPhone OS 4.0 announcement. And of course, I would be remiss to leave out the iPad announcement from Apple.

I recently rooted my phone and was wondering how to install custom themes and lock screens for my hero. I am new to this as the title implies, so a link/instructions on how to install/create these would be what I'm looking for. I also am looking for solutions that do not need to install a new ROM as I just want to mod the current one that I have since i haven't found one I like. I rooted the 2.27.651.5 official sprint software with the instructions from the xda forum here: [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers.

iv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.

Does anyone else want the stock (white) nofication bar on the Sprint Hero? If any one has it on their please share how to get it. I think because its a HTC phone it is made with the black bar, but is their anyway to extract the APK from any other android phone if such a file exists and just install it on the Hero, I really prefer the white one.

I have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

I just got my brand new EVO and was incredibly annoyed I'm 3 blocks away from having 4G in my house. That's a deal breaker for me, as I'm home alot and I have to pay for something I can't use much.
All I really need this phone for is GMail, Google Voice, Google Turn-by-Turn, Web browsing and a few core apps like SplashID and Evernote.
Does the Hero have all these "core" features? Is there anything the EVO has, in terms of software, that the Hero doesn't? Is there anything that is *really missing* from the Hero that the EVO has?

Sprint gears up for more Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile goodness Boy Genius Report
Sprint said itself that the Hero/Moment would be getting software updates. They didn't say 2.0, but HTC already said they're skipping 1.6 for 2.0. It would be suicide for Sprint to go to 1.6 when Verizon will have 2.0 in 3 days.
Yay Sprint! Now don't be too laggy in releasing this! My phone has SO many bugs it's not even funny!

Musicmod is a great music widget. It's much more responsive/faster than HTC sense's music widget. However, it will NOT play tracks in their correct order as the sense widget does.

I have seen several quadrant scores of the Evo with froyo and they are all in the mid 1200's. Thats very close to what most stock 2.1 X's are running. And keep in mind that a stock 2.1 evo is like 750 quadrant.
