HTC Incredible : Need Visual Voicemail Services - Google Voice- Youmail?
May 6, 2010
I need some help with the various visual voicemail services. I've done some searches and can't find what I'm looking for. All I want is to have my voicemails transcribed and available to be read, or even sent to an email or text or whatever.
What is the best service? Google Voice? Youmail? Will I have to change my outgoing message to set up the service? (in other words, will it affect those people calling me? Will they be able to tell?)
Finally, if I buy a Google Voice Invite, can I JUST use the visual voicemail feature? I have no need for the other features it offers.

Since I am waiting to get my google voice invite, I am attempting to try this app. Has anyone been able to get it working on the Droid? When it dials the number to forward voice mails to the YouMail site I get a recording from Verizon to call Verizon customer service. Verizon customer service tells me to contact the app. While waiting for a response from the developer, does anyone here have any information? The code being used to attempt to forward voice mails is *71.

I've been using Google Voice for my VM for about a month and a half now with no problems. But every once in a while, I wake up with a notification from the Verizon Visual Voicemail program. There are no new VMs, but it's annoying all the same. Is there a way to stop this, or do I just have to remove the program completely?

I have been trying to activate either Voice or YouMail to no success. For both I am instructed to dial a *7 number and for both I get a Verizon nessage saying this feature update could not be completed. Calling Verizon of course is no help as they say they dont support third party applicatons. Why wont any of these numbers go through for me? I was using Youmail on my previous Stom with Verizon, but no it wont connect, and I just cant get Google Voice to recieve a message either. After setting up accounts with both I call my phone from a landline and leave a message and can only retrieve it by calling *86 (Verizon voice mail) from my cell phone. So its not forwarding. Any suggestions?

I'm running the original Motorola Droid with Android v2.2.I'm sure this has been brought up in the past, but I've searched and can't find any real good answers.I've had Google Voice for about a year now on my Droid. Here are some concerns I have:
1) It uses anytime minutes when someone is leaving a message.
2) Often it doesn't know when the caller has hung up and eats up additional minutes recording only silence.
3) With the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
For a couple months last year I had Verizon Visual Voicemail and these were the concerns I had:
1) It costs $2.99/month (but doesn't use anytime minutes)
2) Like Google Voice, with the in-call volume maxed out I can barely hear the voicemail through the handset speaker.
3) Notification of voicemails was nowhere near as quick as regular voicemail or Google Voice.
My biggest question right now for both of them- Is there any way to get the in-call volume fixed when listening to messages? Anyone else having these issues? It's important for me that voicemail volume is good and notification is quick. I can't seem to find a visual voicemail option that hits all the nails on the head.

Do you get a whole new number ?
Does it get the voicemails that are new that were there before you got google voice ?
What is the difference between google voice and Verizons Visual voicemail ?

how realiable is your gvvm? I just switched to it from verizons version and it seems like i'm not getting all my messages. Sometimes i'll have voicemails that play nothing for a long time, some will start in the middle of the conversation, etc. What annoys me the most is that sometimes it seems it will go to the verizon voicemail box as I'll get a text from verizon stating i have a voicemail.Anyone else have that problem?

I am joining the Captivate crowd. Currently browsing deals (frustratingly, most won't allow me to choose the small plan I require).
I read a few places that you can't use voice command/control when the phone is on bluetooth. Has there been any change to this since it was first released?
My car stereo is equipped to use a phone via bluetooth, with a microphone mounted by the rear view mirror. I live for this at times, but voice dialing would be 10x more helpful than scrolling through contacts on the stereo screen.
Also, I'd love to know if you can legitimately get visual voicemail without paying a monthly fee? At least for now, I want to keep the phone legit and not mess with warranty, etc.
I'm obviously asking for a brand new phone - as of right now, not "well, when it was released x, y, z" as I think sometimes things change quickly with phones.

Searched for this but didn't find anything. I have my GV voicemail set up to go directly to my voicemail box (no pin) when dialing voicemail from my phone. I have everything configured correctly on the GV site and on my phone (dialed the *71GVNumber). When I call my voicemail it just rings and I have to press * to get to the PIN prompt. Is there something different about the Incredible that this doesn't work correctly? I had this correctly setup on my Storm2.

So I set up Google Voice to be my voicemail provider on my phone.
Twice.
The first time I did it directly on the site and followed the instructions.....THEN I went to the phone and actually changed it in the Voicemail provider settings (there is a spot for it)
When called it still made me put in my voicemail #.
So I started the process over again.
This time I set up my verizon voice mail with the phone number and the ",****" for the pause and the password. Then i told it to use google voicemail.
Then I went into google voicemail and set up the phone again.
And....
Voila....it automatically puts in my password for me now. Although on the phone it doesn't show that its there at all.
There doesn't seem to be a reason to switch the setting on the phone as the voicemail indicator in "messages" doesn't change.....and also It doesn't seem to be able to set up the true visual voicemail through it.
You have to use the Google Voice app to get them and just search through your mails. (If anyone has a way around that one I'd be grateful - for both the message indicator and the visual voicemail)

I am currently using Google Voice for my Visual Voicemail. When someone leaves a voicemail, I get about 5 notification sounds in a row! It's so annoying. I bascially get a couple of email notifications, a message notification, etc. Is there a way where it only makes one notification sound and just shows that you have a new voicemail? I don't need a bunch of things going off at once.

So I have had Google Voice for the past month or so. I have had several people call me and I let it go to Voicemail and then they later tell me that the voicemail wouldn't work for them. They say they don't get my message and instead get some form of automated message that cuts out about halfway through and then ends the call.

Google voice has been sort of flaky for me since I started using it.
I use my old number, and I only use google voice for voicemail, I have it set up on my phone and in google voice.
Sometimes if I decline a call they will get a verizon error message. And today out of boredom I called my cell phone from my work phone and it just rang...and rang...and rang....and rang...and voicemail never picked up. But then I got a notification from google voice that I had an 18 second long message which was completely silent. I did it again, same result.
I logged into google.com/voice and confirmed that my greeting is set up.
It's sad, because I love google voice. But if voicemail doesn't work then it has no value...I can't have people calling me hearing error messages or never getting to leave a message.

I was having some issues with Google Voice (people saying that they didn't always get my voicemail or sometimes it was some automated thing instead of my Google Voice message). I can't afford not getting my voice messages so I want to switch back. However, now whenever I get a voicemail it shows up in my notification bar and I click on the notification and it automatically calls a google voice number. However, when I enter my pin it says I have no messages. So I'm assuming they are on my Verizon Voicemail. But I can't get to them. I finally figured out that in settings you have to then go to the Call menu and change the Voicemail Service back to "My carrier" from Google Voice. But then the Voicemail Number stills shows as the google voice number. What is the number to change it to for Verizon Voicemail? Will that take care of it and allow me to check the 3 unheard messages and then get all of my messages from here on out?

I tried searching for the question I'm about to ask and didn't find any threads so here it goes. Can someone post the steps to setting up Google Voice as visual voice mail for the Captivate? I know it's probably something very simple but I just can't figure it out ( yes, I'm a bit slow ).

I got the Droid yesterday, and I'm trying to use Google Voice *just* for voicemail. However, it seems like I never get notifications about new voicemail, unless the app is open. Also, recorded voicemail is very soft when it's played back, almost too soft to hear.

I had VZW visual voicemail (VVM) on my BB Storm before I got the Incredible. When I switched over, I noticed that the Incredible had a VVM app native to HTC, and I have been using that app. However, the $2.99 service is still on my VZW account which started when I was using the Storm. If I'm not using VZW's VVM app, do I need to pay the $2.99 a month to get VVM using HTC's app?

Sitting here waiting on my Incredible to arrive, and I was just curious as to how many of you actually opted for the $2.99 charge to take advantage of the visual voicemail service offered by Verizon?
I like the convenience of not having to call my VM number and enter my pin when I receive a VM, but a part of me is saying it's not worth the charge.
I don't receive or make a lot of calls, as I mainly text and use data, so phone calls don't make up that great of a percentage of my actual use of the phone.
Is the service always accurate? When I had T Mobile, sometimes the VVM wouldn't work. I would miss a call and receive a VM but I would have to call the number to retrieve it.

I have root. Now how do I go about removing Visual Voice Mail? I already removed CityID and Footprints but I can't seem to find any tutorials for removing VVM. And as a side note, I'm surprised that Google Voice doesn't integrate more on this phone. I mean, it's a Google phone/OS, why not incorporate it seamlessly? Is there a way to have like a notification "star" on the Voice icon when I have new voice mail? I don't really like having notifications delivered to me via gmail.

I want to use WiFi while I'm at work to save battery (my 3G coverage is awful and it constantly searches for it). Everything works except for Visual Voicemail. the second I turn "mobile network" back on my voice mails appear. Is it a silly setting I'm doing wrong? or does Visual voice Mail need 3G to receive? When I try and use WiFi, I turn on WiFi and turn off 3G.
I haven't tested to see if I could get my voicmails the old fashioned way by dialing in (while on WiFi only) but I do know that I don't get a indication that I have an email (so I wouldn't know when to dial in if it did work the manual way). I know someone spoke about they use WiFi instead of 3G while at work and every thing was perfect but I don't know if he subscribes to Visual Voicemail.

I have 3 questions about Visual Voicemail in the Incredible.
1. Is the Visual Voicemail that's in the phone the correct one, or do I need to download the app? It seems when I get a Visual Voicemail, it is showing up in with my text messages. Is that how it's supposed to work or is there supposed to be a separate app?
2. Is it just me, or do people who leave messages sound mechanical? The few voicemails that I've received so far sound terrible. They sound like their voices are synthesized or something. When I talk on the phone, people sound totally normal.
3. Do I even need to pay the $2.99 per month that I am paying Verizon for this service? Or is there a free app available that does the same thing?

Saw the other thread, but didn't want to hijack with a different question.
Is the voicemail application inside of the messages application actually Verizon's Visual Voicemail? I saw on the market that there was an app for VVM, nd the interface looks different. I just want to make sure I'm using the right app and not using minutes and paying for VVM at the same time. Sorry if this is a dumb question and thanks in advance for help.

I have a GV account that I don't really use much, but I am familiar with the system. I know they also offer just VM so you can keep your current cell #. What I want to know is, what do people think about the Sprint visual voicemail that comes on the Hero as it compares to google's VM. Besides transcription, are there any benefits? Are there any downsides?

Just got G-Voice and at this point, all I want to do is use it for visual voicemail. During setup, it asked me if I wanted to use my carrier's service or Google's service. I chose Google at which point I had to call a provided number that seems to initiate forwarding?
Anyway, just wondering what would happen if I choose Verizon's service instead of Google? Do you still get visual voicemail?
