You can now force roaming on the Hero: Mod to enable forced roaming - xda-developers
The current mod is for Fresh 2.3.3, but this can be ported over to other ROMs.

I followed all the steps from [Guide] Root/ROM FAQ/Tutorial and installed Fresh. However, when the phone comes up everything is [OK] but in the bottom Initialize Fresh Rom [Wait] flashing.It keep on rebooting and comes to same point for past 30 minutes.Did I messed the rooting part or ROM installed?Is there anything can be done here? or do I wait?
View 12 Replies View Relatedafter installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am getting a forced close error everytime I try to remove the HTC Messaging widget from one of my screens. I tap and hold down on the widget to select it so I can move it to the "remove" button at the bottom of the screen. Well when I tap and hold I get a forced error close message. Any ideas what I need to do to correct this issue. I'm using the original messaging app, and only have 3 other non related apps downloaded.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen traveling near my home area I encounter areas with no Sprint service. The phone roams into Verizon network which is very strong in my area. Beginning last week when I attempt to make a call when roaming on Verizon I get a message stating Verizon can not verify this phone number unable to make call. I contacted Sprint about the problem. They suggested a few things i already did, update PRL and profile etc.... which did not help. They told me there was nothing they could do because they cant guarantee service on their phones when roaming. This baffles me because phone roamed fine on Verizon for 6 months all of a sudden it doesnt. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? About 30 percent of my home town has no Sprint coverage so I guess I am just SOL.

Maybe I hit a pocket of wifi access, I dunno.So, is data roaming happening? If so, is it included under the "no roaming charges" umbrella that comes with the Everything plans or could be be charged for roaming data?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Hero has been stuck on roaming since Tuesday night and now has no EVDO service after a tech had me do a soft reset and update my profile.The Sprint store told me last night that they just received a bulliten about this and for some reason it only affects HTC heros on their network.I was given two different stories by techs over the phone and am really unhappy. It seems a bit odd that nobody has posted about it here.I live in Houston Texas.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have been a Sprint customer for a very long time. My wife and I both have smartphones and we have the Unlimited 1500 plan. To my knowledge, this includes everything (excluding International calls.....which I know for a fact thanks to an $1800 fraud that was on my bill 2 months ago). I digress, data roaming is included as a part of this plan as far as I know.
I checked my bill online yesterday, and there was an alert that I have used 3800+KB of data roaming.
Now....let me start by saying, yes, I do have the setting checked to allow for data roaming (as to my knowledge, it's included in my plan). I do have the Hero (my second one) and for the life of me, I can't figure out why it goes into roaming mode more than any other Sprint phone I've ever owned. My wife's phone could be sitting next to mine, and I'll be roaming while she is not. That being said, I can guarantee there have been instances where I've roamed and pulled down data (checking email, automatically checking weather/facebook/twitter/etc, internet) and I've never seen this alert on my account.
I called Sprint last night to question it, and they put a $20 service credit on my account. That's all fine and great, as I'm not going to turn down free money, but I had explained that my concern was that the alert is showing up to begin with. I even explained that while I appreciate the credit, I'd rather just have this situation resolved so that I don't have to call back next month if these charges appear.
My question is this, has anyone ever seen this before? I am rooted, I am running Fresh 2.1.1 and I have the latest SPRINT radio flashed from Flipz' website. I have had this setup for a little over 2 months now, so this isn't the first billing cycle that this setup has seen. I can't figure this out for the life of me.
If this continues to be a problem, it's either going to require a new device or a new carrier. I live in a very populated western suburb in Chicagoland and have NEVER had a problem with roaming or poor signal until I got the Hero in October.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI haven't rooted or flashed a new ROM to my phone yet, but I'm thinking about it.After reading Fresh 2.0d seems like a good one, especially since it doesn't have all the bloatware with it.The only app that I want from the bloatware is the Sprint Navigation.I saw the file to reinstall all the applications back, but I only want the Navigation.Does anyone know how to flash just that app to the phone and skip the rest of the Sprint bloatware?
View 15 Replies View Relateda little background info, rooted my first hero no problem using fresh kitchen, but ended up bricking my phone. got my new hero today from sprint, came home connected it up to 2 different computers to try and root it but in both cases both htc sync and kitchen dont see my phone, but i can run the tests in kitchen and see my sd card if i mount it.my build number is 1.56.651.2 cl85027 release-key and it says my hardware version is 002 if that helps.

Now that 2.1 is out, is there anyone out there that has hands on with both that can compare the two? Basically, I'm looking to find out if I should swap over to Eclair.

I recently flashed to fresh 2.1.2 and I found that the grey arch is back on my lockscreen. what Im wondering is if there is anyway that I can get rid of that grey arch WITHOUT using a vanilla style lockscreen (I like the simplicity of just the clock and which ever picture I choose)

I have a Sprint HTC Hero, and I rooted my phone about a week ago. I flashed the Fresh 1.1 ROM, and since then I don't think I have been receiving all my text messages. Could the rooting and Fresh be the cause? If so should I go back to the factory settings?

Now when my hero boots up i get "Sorry the process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly please try again." and "Sorry the process com.google.process.gapps has stooped." Then i get the "Complete action using" screen HTC Sense or Launcher. It seems like if i click HTC Sense i keep getting the Force Quit but if i select Launcher i get to the home screen but cant place phone calls......
View 10 Replies View RelatedI use my phone daily in a non-Verizon network, so having Data Roaming enabled is very important for me. The new ROM I installed, however, does not have a menu option for enabling/disabling Data Roaming.
Any way to do this through script? Or maybe there is something that can be changed in "build.prop" (or another file) that would change the default setting of Data Roaming disabled to be enabled?
This is for Rooted users with fresh rom using Pre-kitchen.Can someone tell me how to use kitchen?I have fresh 1.1, I downlaoded pre-kitchen to my PC and unzipped to it's own folder.I open the exe and the kitchen pops up. If I try to click "help" and send test message it says it's not connected. have I missed something?

Very easy to install once I figured out the .NET issue with my windows pc (just needed to update the .NET stuff, @ windowsupdate.com, pretty easy), and very easy to use, though it sure would be nice if the "Kitchen Tutorial" section of geekforme.com was completed. I'm a clicker and tweaker by nature and I knew I couldn't screw up too badly (just flash it back to stock and start over if things turn sour) so away I went. There really is no need to fear with this (pre) Kitchen set up.The auto-root was FAST and very easy. Pulling unwanted applications and pushing files to the device, also simple. Even swapping the theme and lock screen was pretty easy. A good, solid tutorial on the site (which I understand is in progress) would have helped, but there are good people in this and other forums who are happy to help if one gets stuck.
I had rooted my phone previously and removed many stock applications, so I did not notice as large of a performance jump that most do coming from a stock device, but it seems a bit snappier, post Fresh.I have noticed that my battery seems to be draining quicker post Fresh. I charged fully before bed, placed the phone in Airplane Mode and set it on the table. When I woke up this morning, the device had dropped to 50% in 6-7 hours of no use. I don't recall seeing any threads talking about speedy drain post root/fresh, so I'm looking into it. There are no apps installed that I didn't have on the phone before I noticed faster battery drain, save for those installed with Fresh.I'd say it was due to me playing with it more, but I was sleeping... Unless I'm fiddling with it in my sleep... The phone shows an up time of 8hr 27min with an awake percentage of 81%. It seems I've missed something that's keeping the phone awake. Suggestions?
I am using fresh 2.1.2 - what do I need on my computer (drivers?) - to be able to do WIRED tether? I am trying to use the wired tether that is built into the Fresh Rom 2.1.2.
