Anyone know if I can do a hard reset w/o the touchscreen?
I drowned my Sprint Hero in Diesel fuel last week, & before I return it to Asurion / Sprint I'd like to erase all of my personal data from the phone. The trackball & keys work most of the time, but I can't seem to click or highlight the "erase everything" button. Touchscreen is totally non functional.

I Finally rooted my Sprint HTC hero and was happy after two hours of figuring it out. Well I did a factory reset and I accidentally removed the two IM apps and now my home screen wont load it says the HTC sense has stopped unexpectedly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was having a bunch of issues with crashes, lag, bluetooth, and 100% awake time. And now they're gone. The only thing is - I don't know why. And my past experience with the hero is that issues you think are dealt with, sneak back in when you least expect it. I was experiencing issues even after I wiped my phone, then installed the official Sprint Rom (replacing the leak). Then I hard shut the phone down and was going to hard reset it again. But first, I swapped batteries. Then did a hard reset. Does anyone know if taking the battery out could have had any effect at all? I don't want to start an old wives tale about the phone if there's really no technical reason this should have done anything.
Whatever the case, I've re-installed all the apps I was using before. I've run every single program I could to see if there were any that would crash - and so far nothing has. I had WiFi and mobile network turned out, my bluetooth connected and was using Google Maps without any problems. I have yet to experience the landscape keyboard lag that everyone else is talking about. The phone can still be a bit sluggish here and there - it seems especially when I have my bluetooth headset connected, the phone can take a couple of seconds to make a call when I push on an picture in the "people" widget. But honestly - that seems to be the only complaint I have and I've been pushing the phone really hard trying to replicate old problems or find new ones.
So I need to hard reset my phone don't want to lose anything. And are the settings saved or no.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLong time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself.And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. But there weren't any apps on the device in the first place that were really out of the ordinary.- Gmail POP3 Yahoo- Corporate E-Mail to Microsoft Exchange Server (No, it wasn't the Exchange Admin sending a kill package, I'm the Exchange Admin)

I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.
My Hero is in a startup loop. Has anyone else ever had this problem? What is the fix. I can't get the phone to start up so that I can do a factory reset. Is there anyway to do a manual factory reset?

My question is simple, will hard reset "restore" EVO back to factory settings, AKA 2.1? I mean when you bought the phone, 2.1 is "baked" in the internal memory. When you update to 2.2, will 2.2 also be "baked" in internal memory so that whenever you hard reset you will always go to 2.2 status? I think it is, but please clarify?

Details = Followed instructions from a Youtube video, and got a CyanogenMod. Pretty cool and all, but wanted to try another. Used the same method described in the youtube video to get this Fresh rom i keep hearing good reports about. Liked it, but now wanted to do a factory reset, and it goes back to the previous, CyanogenMod.
I am turning my Hero in for a new EVO and I had information in my Google Voice account that I do not want anyone at the office to be able to dig up...
I performed a factory reset (per the manual) and I want to be 110% sure that no one will be able to "resurrect" my old Google Voice app and see anything...
Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my phone feel so slugish and the mp3's are not playing on any music app. Ive searched through the internet that if i do a hard reset and clean dalvik cache that should fix it. But when i done that something went wrong with my android phone. It boots with no problem but when the boot finishes the screen just go black. I know it is booted cause it vibrates when i press the buttons(haptic feedback) but its just black screen. Im using mt6516 android platform phone. Cherry Mobile Candy to be exact.

I just did a hard rest and now when the phone turns on, it just sits at a black home screen. The only thing i can do it hold down search and search the web, seems like from deleting some widgets it messed things up. Any way i can install a new from or something like that?

For instance, I can type in a google search, but I can't click on any of the results, but I can click on the "Options" tab next to each hyperlink. As I click on these links, they will become underlined, but nothing happens. I tried a factory reset on calibration and that did not work.

So far I am loving it way more than my old winmo phone.That said, I find that the screen is just not nearly as touch sensitive as my ipod touch and im kind of disappointed. I have to press things sometimes 2 or 3 times to get it go. Especially in the corners

2. I have a screen protector. Its a $20 Invisible Shield by ZAGG that is off the shelf. Could that be causing the slow and unresponsive screen? What do you guys use?
3. Does the hero really NEED a screen protector? I previously had an HTC touch DIAMOND and i didn't use a screen protector evre and it got scratched up to HELL. Just for reference, I used my ipod almost in the same way (in and out of jeans pocket, not with keys, etc) and it didn't scratch AT ALL.Any way to improve this would make me way less disappointed here.
Sometimes the touchscreen is just fine, but other times it falls in sensitivity.I find myself have to press down hard on the screen in order for it to recognize the touch.This has been the case both with or without a screen protector.Anyone else experience this? Can this be improved in any way by the future 2.1 update?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI did not register my googlemail account on my Hero when I initially set it up but want to do so now. I get the old 'sim card may not be provisioned for data services' error message and have read up that I will have to do a hard reset.
This will wipe out my texts so I want to know is there a way to back them up? I am aware there are utilities in the android marketplace for this purpose but as I cannot sign in to my googlemail account via my phone, I cannot make use of them.
First post here. I've tried searching for this issue but have come up with nothing, so if it's been posted, please point me in the right direction.I've had my Hero since January (Sprint) and this only came up in the last couple of days. About a week ago (05/28/10) my Hero froze and Sprint issued me a new phone which they updated to 2.1. On Thursday (06/03/10) I noticed the sound when I use my touch screen is much louder than it used to be. I'm almost positive the new phone wasn't quite this loud when I first got it. The sound I'm talking about is not the 'tone' sound as I've disabled that, but the 'ticking' sound when you launch an app or shortcut. Does this make sense? Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is there a way to make this sound quieter? I'd rather not disable it completely as I like a little bit of feedback that a button has been hit.

I use a blackberry at work and it seems when I use that one, it is the only time I lose all screen functionality. It starts going haywire. If I touch the A key, it will select the N or something completely off the wall. If I unplug it, wait about 60 seconds, it works again. Wonder if anyone else has an issue with other brand chargers? Going to toss this one but thought I'd let people know in case they run into the same issue.

I had an InvisibleSHIELD for my old Blackberry and I loved it for its durability. I was thinking about putting one on my new Sprint HTC Hero, but I remember it having kind of a tacky, gummy, sticky feel to it...kind of resistant to sliding your finger over it smoothly. That doesn't matter to me whatsoever when I'm not using a touch screen, but has anyone used one on a Hero? I don't want to buy one and find out it makes my phone harder to use.Specifically, I've just gotten pretty good at using SlideIT (wish I could try Swype), and I have a feeling that with an InvisibleSHIELD it will be much harder to accurately move my finger to the right spots on the screen at the right times. Has anyone had any experience with this?
View 17 Replies View RelatedAlmost every day when I wake up I check my phone and 9 times out of 10 the touch screen does not work. I cannot make a call or check anything. I have to push a lot of buttons and take out the battery and generally wait a while before my expensive phone to start to work. Is there a fix for this? I've already had to go to sprit to do a hard reset because the phone got, "kicked off the network" for some reason the sprint people could not explain. Any solution for the screen issue?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI father-in-law has an Atrix 2 and the screen was in perfect condition. It was running extremely slow, so i did a factory reset for him. There is now a weird mark on his screen that seems to get bigger everyday. I told him it has nothing to do with the factory reset, but I believe he may have had it in his one cargo pocket and press against something. There is no visible damage to the exterior of the screen. I have attached a photo to see what it could possibly be if it is not from physical damage.
