Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Sync To SE-site Does Not Backup All Contacts And Immature Contacts
Sep 20, 2010
I have two groups of contacts "MyContacts" and "Utilities". When I set up synching I selected to copy "All contacts".
Unfortunatey, when I look what's on my area on sonyericsson.com/wportal I see only the contacts from the group "MyContacts".
I.e. the site creates a false feeling of security - if I need to restore my phone from this site I will irrecovarebly lose lots of data.
I don't know is SE forgot to test their function or Android-hackers don't understand the features of the contacts.
All area of handling the contacts stinks seriously, and mkes you wander if the Android people ever used a mobile phone :
1. X10 does not accept contacts sent via SMS (VCARD-format), (or via MMS or bluetooth)
2. X10 does not sync with Outlook where most of business people have their contacts, and maintain them when receiving corporate mails etc.
3. The only way to get the contacts is to export from PC to a csv-file and import to gmail, and then sync to the phone. This is not that flexible due the export via csv. I.e. If I create cntacts in the phone they will not reach Outlook.

When I save contacts to the memory card I get a file named 00001.vcf. When I open this file in outlook it seems to contain only the first of all my contacts. Can I open this file in another way to get all my contacts? Is it possible to import all my contacts to Pc Companion? When I syncronize the phone with this program I only get the bookmarks exported from the phone to the program. No contact is exported. I have already lost my contacts once and will be sure that I have saved them correctly.

From my late c702 I have a contacts backup (.dbk file) that I'd like to import to my Xperia mini. How do i do that?Alternatively, I have a csv file that I could import. Can PC Companion do that? Editing contacts in Google contacts isn't too user friendly.

Seems SE is ignoring the bulk of their users who use Outlook (like the majority of businesses do) without providing any path for those that use Outlook to whatever future they see. Hopefully, I can get my money back for my X10.

I'm having "fun" with syncing my X10 with gmail. Like an idiot I turned on the sync with the default "All contacts" setting and discovered that it'd hosed my phone's contacts (because I didn't have any in gmail - it's a new account). So I put some of the contacts back in and switched to the MyContacts/ Starred Android Contacts bit. Gmail contacts then seemed to be saved to the phone, but there was no exchange the other way. This morning, I tried a manual contact sync (from Settings) and it 'spins' for about 1-2 seconds and then stops, leaving the symbol up on the screen, and the last update time isn't updated from last night. Needless to say the new contacts from the phone aren't being sent up to gmail. A quick check of the phone logs (Android System Info app) isn't helpful.Edit: forgot to mention that Calendar sync works fine - with events being exchanged between X10 and gmail just fine. I know there's 'issues' with the initial sync (according to Google's support forums) but anyone out there had the same problem and - more importantly - got a resolution.

Anytime I add a contact detail via the handset if I let it sync, either via Google or SE, the contact will be wiped which is pretty useless (basically I cannot add new contacts on the handset, preposterous!). I contacted SE help, they recommended I use the software update program to update the handset software. I have done this but the update software tells me the handset is running the latest software, the problem persists.

Because of several issues with SE sync, I am trying to use Google sync instead. However, this is also not working as expected: I wished to have all my phone contacts transferred from the phone to Gmail contact list. I started with an empty Gmail contact list. I enabled Google sync as described on the SE website. I don't know exactly what it does, but I also enabled Settings -> Data synchro -> Gmail (perhaps related to my e-mails?)
Result: Calendar syncs without problem. Contacts do not transfer from phone to Gmail
Second trial: I created a new contact "A" on GmailI created a new contact "B" on the phoneI ran sync
Result: Contact "A" synced successfully from Gmail to phone. No sync of contact "B" from phone to Gmail.
Third trial: I modified contact "A" on the phoneI ran sync
Result: The modification done on the phone did not sync to Gmail
Hints from the phone: When I try using Google sync for calendar, the sync icon shows for some seconds, before the date of last sync is updated. All ok. When I try using Google sync for contacts, the sync icon shows for 5-15 minutes. It then disappears, but no date of last sync is added. When I check the contact list, contacts have been synced from Gmail, but not to Gmail.
When I select Settings -> Data synchro -> Gmail, the sync icon blinks for some seconds with a yellow warning triangle. I don't know if this is related to my Gmail e-mails. The e-mails in the Gmail app are loaded without problem.I have already tried going to "manage application" and clear data for "Gmail" and "Gmail storage". I should probably mention that I synced my phone contacts with Gmail some months ago, without problems. This means that my Gmail contact list was not empty when I started messing with this. However, on my first sync attempt, contact lists on the phone and on Gmail were not synced. Instead, all Gmail contacts were added to the phone, causing 95% duplicate entries. I exported my Gmail contacts, deleted the entire Gmail contact list, and synced again to remove duplicate entries from the phone. Then started the process above. I would rather avoid deleting all the contacts from the phone to reload them from Gmail or SE sync, because addresses, facebook/twitter connections, etc. do not sync well.

Turn on USB Debugging then connect your phone via USB to your PC don't Mount the SD Card then run the program you installed It syncs Outlook 2007 contacts I don't know about earlier versions though check the settings and set advaned options the way you want Sync Outlook to phone Sync Phone to Outlook Sync both You can tick ones in the list that yo do not want syncing Explore how this works before you do any full syncs so you know its doing what you want You can also Messages - inbox, outbox, draft Apps - Start, Delete, also Install from your PC Files - Phone, SD Card Calendar Alarms Calls - Missed, incoming, outgoing
I have tried it for a couple of days and it works great the best all round android phone explorer, it is free but has a donate option which to be fair.

For 1-2 weeks I cant sync my contacts with google any more.
I have turned auto sync off and just try to do it manually
It tries for like 5 sec then says "there is a problem with sync, it should work soon, try again" or something like that.
Now this HAS worked before, even after I updated to 2.1, but now it just wont.
Think its a great way to keep a backup of the contacts.
Manual sync for Gmail in the same menu works fine.

My week old phone seems to randomly select contacts and deletes them from my phone. I have to then log onto the website and go into the synchronisation page and rummage around in the contacts trash to restore them and then re-sync..
I have the Google Sync selected within the Data Synchornisation settings but I have auto synchronisation turned off.
Do I need to change my sync settings or is there a problem?

Just received my phone yesterday and had a problem getting the SIM contacts from my old W910i phone to the Xperia x10. Followed the instructions to the letter, then called up Orange and they tried a few ways to get them over, went to the shop this morning to try and sort it out but after over an hour it was to no avail. The young chap in the store said that it must be based on the database setup - they must be incompatible.
So I now have to manually input my old contacts on the new phone when I encountered another problem - whilst inputting a contact detail, I pressed something on the bottom left of the keyboard and suddenly I am faced with Korean language. I went to Settings and set the language to English UK and went back to the contact I was editing, but still faced with a Korean keyboard.

I am having problems with my contacts showing up on my Black Xperia X10i. I made sure I saved all 170 contacts to my AT&T sim card before I put it in the phone. When I put it in, and turned on the phone, nothing showed up. I tried to go through settings to see if it had to be checked but I can't find anything.

I installed android 2.1 today but for some reason I can't restore my contacts.I followed the instructions on the sony ericsson webpage and used the SE backup software to make a backup of my contacts, mms, photos etc. When I restored everything after the update everything was restored except my contacts. How can I get my contacts back? Is there some way to extract them manually from the backup file or something? The backup software can't seem to restore them for me.

My problem is I didn't want to sync my google contacts with my phone directory but it automatically did that when I downloaded applications from the android market (bec. downloading requires me to log in to my google account).... it freaks me out because I don't want to do that. My phone directory should be exclusively for phone nos. only, no email addresses. I want to delete some entries in my phone directory, how can i do that WITHOUT doing it one by one?
