I've had an SGS for about 10 days now and I really do like it, but the battery thingy really kills the whole eperience :S
I remember before I bought this phone I made a thread about the battery life and everyone said that I could easily fix it.
So how do I make my SGS not use 90% of my battery life?
PS. Got the brightness at 0 and the sound volume at 0 (Only on vibration atm)

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI connected a usb cord that came with my galaxy, to the front usb ports of my new computer. I built it myself but i think i connected the from case usb cords wrong to the mobo or may be the mobo is defective. My phone turns off as soon as i connect it to the usb cord connected to the front. Could the battery be screwed? My phone still boots up, it just doesnt charge as fast. If not at all i left it connected to the wall charger all night tonight and it was only half charged by morning. Should I just order a new battery off ebay for my galaxy?

i have a 3-week old Galaxy S and i'm loving it. but i noticed that it seems to be "slower" in some ways (compared to the iPhone 4) in the way it open & closes an app, the way it loads an app sometimes, the way it animates in going back to previous screens or menus and in general really. don't get me wrong it's quick but having a 1GHz processor i'm kinda left feeling and wanting.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi know you all gona say that i should have used forum search which actually i did and i still cant find the answer of how to root (most resent or best methods). today i decided to go the way most of you went and root my galaxy so i could enjoy some of the features or customise the devise for it to be either faster or better somehow (particularly im interested in fixing HW acceleration of openGL). but my main problem is still that ADB doesnt show my device in the devices list after adb_devices command... i think ive tried everything: reinstalling drivers and NPS, SDK 1.5 r1 putting in debbuging, restarting phone even using USBdeview soft to uninstall all android and samsung drivers and try to make it work but still nothing... all day wasted, many forums read, downloaded KAM187s drivers and still nothing im on H8 firmware how to make adb recognise my phone and list it) plus i want some info on how to push this openGL fix on my phone after i root it (if ever) by the way tried on Windows 7 and XP sorry for making a new thread but i think im not the only one whose phone is not listed by adb as i read it on other forums.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android and rooting. I have a Galaxy S and love it! I didn't even know what rooting was. I just came across it after looking for ways to make my phone faster. After a while I realized my phone speed slowed down and was looking for the reason behind it. That's when I learned rooting is the answer. So I used the One Click method and everything is fine so far.
My Kernel is 2.6.29 root@SE-S602 #2 and Baseband is XXJF3 (2.1). So I went into my apps and saw the superuser permission app. But it doesn'thttp://android.bigresource.com/add/add.php work! It is just a blacked out screen. So I am not sure where to go from here. I have tried searching for an answer but couldn't find one, just guides how to root. How to make my phone faster from this point? I get confused with all these ROM things! Which is the best ROM? MoDaCo? Is there a Froyo version of it?
I have heard many many many references to 'fastboot' it's obvious it's on the phone, but every time I look at a rooting or firmware update guide, it seems to imply that it's part of the android sdk. 'just go into the tools folder then run fastboot command filename.ext'But fastboot.exe, fastboot.com, fastboot.bat, fastboot.msi. any thing that would cause a command called 'fastboot' to run out of that folder does not exist in the android sdk.So where is fastboot coming from on the pc side of things. where specifically is this component or program gained? should it be in the sdk? I've installed every release of it, it's not in any of them.This lack of 'fastboot' on the pc side of things is the only thing that's stopping me at this point.Where is this fabled, and seemingly non existent fastboot application?

The thing is I can't remember how I set my song as my ringtone. It is a full song and I easily set it as my ringtone. I didn't put it in a custom "ringtones" folder or anything.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make Galaxy S light up the menu, back button or the screen periodically to notify the presence of an unread message when the screen is off/locked?
I know it lights up and makes a sound when a new message comes, but afterwards there is no way to find out without pressing the middle button or the side unlock button.
I am so used to having a blinking LED message indicator in my previous nokia, I think it�s a really nice feature, because you can know just by looking at the phone without even touching it, very handy at night or when your phone is out of reach. I�m really going to miss that feature.
1. I am not able to run USSD codes on my GalaxyS-I9000. Whenever I dial any USSD it says "USSD Code Running" and then it disappears, nothing happens after this.
2. Every time after I hung up a call in my old cell/any other cell it use to show the balance amount I have (prepaid card) and last call cost, but in my GalaxyS its not showing anything after the call.
Igot daily briefing runnig with the weathr, just the weathr and it uses the entire screen to run, and phisically it only takes on third of it. How can i make to use only what it needs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I've been trying to make my calendar start on Sunday, I have changed the settings to do so, but the calendar still starts on Monday.
I use CalWidget and in the "Miscellaneous" settings I've ticked the "Week starts Sunday" setting, still no luck.
My cloud Google Calendar starts on Sunday as well.
Am I missing something? It doesn't seem to me like this should be hard to do, and I'm not computer or Android illiterate, but I just can't seem to figure this one out.
im a galaxy s2 gt-i9100 user and how do i make my status bar thinner as it is taking up a bit of space?? Do i decompile systemui.apk or seclauncher2.apk? And what line is it to edit? I do not want to change my lcd density as touchwiz becomes weird and i do not want to install a 3rd party launcher.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Samsung Galaxy S phone from a local AT&T store in the US. I took the phone home the first day and spent a few hours scrolling thru the menus and getting familiar with the phone. I did a software update on the phone it has ver 2.1. I also went to a few websites to test the browser. I made about 3 calls and talked for about an hour. I had the phone turned on the entire time, I was not in standby mode.
After about 2 hours - the back of the phone where the battery is, started getting hot.
It didn't burn my hand but it was like holding a very hot cup of coffee in your hand. Very uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this problem with a battery getting hot?
Why is the battery overheating? I'm afraid to use the phone now, it might burn up something in the phone or ruin a memory card or something else.
What's causing the battery top get really hot? How do you fix this problem?
When I use the dial pad the tones are short but when I call to my voicmail then bring up dial pad the tones on the dial pad (the numbers) are long. How do I fix this and make them like the normal short dial pad?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPrior to getting the Galaxy S, after I read what Samsung were saying in the manual of not to overcharge, I investigated the reasons and wrote in various topics on the battery and the differences between Li-Ion & Li-Pol battery types.At that point with all the evidence found it made sense to believe that what Samsung were saying in not to overcharge was accurate.Basically, at that time it was believed the phone used a Li-Pol, Li-Pol batteries are different in that they are 'wet cell' as opposed to Li-Ion which are 'dry cell' charged.Li-Pol can be manufactured much thinner but can not be manufactured in different shapes.This is to allow the wet cells whilst under charge which become hot to move around the battery freely. If a Li-Pol was manufactured in different shapes like Li-Ion it would create a 'hot-spot' in an area where the wet cell could not move fluidly around the remainder of the battery.However, it has now come to light that this is not the case and that the batteries provided with the phone are indeed Li-Ion.Anyway, moving on to the present.
After now getting the phone and doing a bit of testing I have found the overcharging issue NOT to be an issue.When you commence a charge on the phone the icon changes to a charge state.However, once the battery has reached maximum charge capacity the battery icon automatically changes to a 'Non-Charge' state and then the phone simply runs off it's own battery. This is despite the phone is still connected to the charger. It's just that the charger although still attached is no longer charging the battery.As soon as the battery falls below a certain figure (I've had different figures ranging from 98% right down to 91% which is probably due to whatever the phone is doing at that particular time to wake the phone up from realizing "hey, you are still attached to a charger, now wake up and start charging again").
However, this simply has not been my experience at all, I get a couple of days out of my SGS whereas some others report only getting a day.
I just thought it would be interesting for us to post in here how much battery life we are getting for the amount of use we put the phone to.
There must be some sort of pattern.
My usage:
anywhere between 10 - 30 texts per day.
Several emails - sending and recieving.
a few phonecalls.
30 Minutes of gaming.
Twitter.
Live wallpaper running.
BBC News widget running and Weatherbug widget running.
I also listen to some music but this varies day by day.
3G and HSPDA are left on constantly as is my wireless.
GPS is turned off.
Thats my usage and i get at least a day and a half. Would be interesting to compare...
With the standard battery how many times per week do you recharge your Galaxy S ?
1. 7-10 times (every day or several times per day).
2. 5-6 times.
3. 3-4 times.
4. 1-2 times.
5. Never you moron ... I was struck by lightning years ago and I charge everything within 10 feet of me automatically !
I have a black background, I keep the display settings at the lowest brightness settings, and I keep the screen off when I'm not using it, but my phone is dying after 8-10 hours if I don't use it very much and 4-5 hours if I use it regularly. Every time it indicates that it needs to be recharged, 65-80% of the power is going to the display. I...don't see how that can be.I'm using a Samsung Vibrant that I bought on July 30th.
