Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: Poor GPS Performance - 1.6.3.2 And JC6

May 22, 2010

I have no issues with GPS with my stock 1.5 ROM. The signal is picked up within a few seconds, even in my basement. Once I updated to Galaxo 1.6.3.2, the gps performance is extremely bad. Most of the time, my phone is only picking up 2 satellites, not enough for a lock. If I am lucky enough to get a lock, it doesn't last very long. I have managed to pick up 7 satellites once, but the reception on each was extremely poor, not enough for a fix. I tried flashing back to stock, which again, had very good GPS performance.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what underlying issue is causing the poor GPS performance? I understand that JC6 ROM (and Galaxo is built around it I believe) is from Russia. Does android have a cache of nearby satellites (similar to how QuickGPS works with windows mobile phones), and could it be that these satellite location are optimized for Russia? If not, is it an inherent problem with Android 1.6? As I use my gps quite often, hopefully someone can provide some insight, or I might just be driving an infinite loop of circles in the near future...

My battery performance has never been better now that I quite looking at it all day and my sanity has slowly begun to return.

Motorola Droid :: Will D2 Standard Battery Work In D1?

Aug 24, 2010

With the recent short battery life issues occuring since the OTA, my phone is lucky to make it a day with minimal use. I am taking a trip in about two weeks to vegas and plan on using my phone heavily there for pictures and what not, so I wanted to pick up a spare battery to take with me. VZW online store is sold out of the standard D1 batteries currently but has D2 in stock and it shows the same stock part number. However the D2, according to the description uses 1420maH where as the D1 uses 1400maH. This is greek to me. I remember reading a post recently where the extended battery for the D2 was working well with the D1 and I was just curious if anyone knows if the same will apply for the standard battery.

HTC Incredible :: 90 + Hour Standard Battery Life Achieved

May 16, 2010

The purpose of this discussion is to talk about how applications and usage settings have an impact on standby time. I think we can *all* agree that our Incredible spends more time in idle mode as opposed to actual screen-mashing, voice jabbering, finger pinching usage time. So if one person's battery drops 6% in an hour of standby, and another's only drops 1%, what is the problem? And more importantly, what is the solution?

Standby/Idle: The state of the phone when the screen is off. Pressing the power button brings the device out of standby and all functions are immediately accessible. Phone calls and notifications are possible in standby/idle. Off: The state of the phone when all radios and electrical systems are turned off. Pressing the power button initiates the boot sequence, where one must wait for some time before using the handset................

Motorola Droid :: Best ROM And Kernel For Battery And Performance

Oct 3, 2010

Ive used Cm6 and had some homescreen lag issues so i tried liquid frozen yogurt 1.6 and i love it. i ran the slayher kernel and it seemed to be doing just fine. it is snappy and battery life is better than CM6. I also tried simply stunning v4.8. I really like SS a lottt but with the chevy kernel my battery life was absolutly terrible. I don't know why that was so i switched back to Liquid froyo 1.6 and my battery life is a lot better now. Does anyone know about UD extreme 8? ive heard good things but i just wanted to know a little bit more about it. So basically my question is what do you guys think the best ROM and kernels are for performance and battery.

HTC Eris : Set For Balance Between Performance And Battery Life?

Aug 15, 2010

Got some great help last night getting setcpu up and running and there is some difference, mostly because I'm using LWP. I just had some questions on setting it up correctly. On the main page, you have the two scroll bars (I have both set to 710 and haven't had any problems) , under that is the Scaling option, What exactly does that do, and how should it be set for the balance between performance and battery life?

Follow up question, under profiles, is there any recommended profiles I should set up? Currently I have Screen off: 528/528 on demand with priority 50 (not sure what all of this means though). Are there any others that should be established?

Motorola Droid X :: 100% CPU Usage - Performance - Battery Life

Nov 5, 2010

My X recently (within the last week) started having extremely poor battery performance under the same usage conditions as the previous week (K-9 syncs every 15 min, maybe 2 texts per hour, 2-3 emails per hour, maybe 5 total minutes of phone use). After 4 hours, the battery would be at 20-30%

To make matters worse, most functions were extremely slow to respond (contact loading, test message loading, recent calls, bookmarks, any scrolling was choppy, etc.) The delay when trying the most basic things (opening the browser, making a call) was getting unbearable.

I started backtracking the changes in the last week. Although I started tinkering with Google's App Inventor over three weeks ago, that's where I focused. I uninstalled all App Inventor programs, including the Eyes-Free Text to Speech engine. This engine was recommended by Google to do things like read text messages in the Apps you create.

Still no luck.

I decided to investigate the battery use a little more. In Battery Manager, I found that "Android System" was using about 70% of my battery. I was typically used to seeing things like "display" at the top.

I have an app called Android System Info. This showed my CPU usage pegged at 100% (even after a reboot). It never got lower than 99%. The biggest CPU hog was "Android System" at 75-80%, consistently.

This App has a tab to view the log, and I noticed several recurring error messages in the log. They were occurring at the rate of about 180 times per second! The error? "Invalid TTS Engine" Well, the TTS is controlled by the "Android System". The "Android System" was constantly trying to load the uninstalled TTS engine.

I went into "Settings...Voice input and output", and, although the Eyes Free TTS engine wasn't available, the default TTS was not set. I checked the box to have the native TTS as the default, and checked the box for "Always use my settings".

Everything immediately went back to normal. CPU usage is now around 10-20%, and "Display" is back at the top of my battery hogging functions.

Battery life is back to over 10 hours, and the delays are gone.

HTC Hero :: Battery Performance Report - Draining Very Fast On 3G

Nov 5, 2009

I was quite frustrated earlier with my battery performance. I turned off:

- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- "Use wireless networks"
- Gmail/Email pull and Auto-sync (but leave the "Background data" on)
- "Enable GPS satellites"
- Weather update
- "Enable Always-On mobile" (but leave the "Mobile network" ticked)
- and let Twitter/Facebook to automatically update only once/twice a day.

Still the battery was draining very fast. The only thing I did not turn off is the 3G. Yesterday I decided to switch to 2G and replace the built-in SMS with Handcent SMS. To my very surprise, the battery life improves greatly. I will now do a test to see how fast it drains. I have just fully charged the unit and will update it here once I get the result.

Motorola Droid :: People With Poor Battery Performance

Dec 10, 2009

I see some people in the forums bragging about how great their batteries are and i am jealous I took mine of the charger at 7:00 this morning and at 3:00 my phone was already down to 40 percent. My question for the users that also seem to have poor battery life is, once your phone reaches 40% does a reboot give you more battery life? Every time my phone reaches 40% a reboot brings mine back up to 60%. This happens every time so it is not a coincidence or a onetime thing. I am curios if the reporting is off because it is almost 5:00 and i just did a reboot and now I have 60% left. I can live with 40% usage from 7:00 to 5:00 but I can't live with 60% usage from 7:00 to 3:00

HTC Hero : How To Increase Battery Life And Performance On New Shiny ROM

May 11, 2010

There are a few things you can do that will help your battery life and performance...

Performance

 Do some graphical tweaks...
1. Install Spare parts
2. Set Window animations > Fast
3. Set Transition animations > Fast
4. Set Wifi sleep policy > Never While Plugged

 Adjust the Android memory management...
1. Install Autokiller
2. Menu > Presets
3. Most people have best results with 'Moderate' but you could also try 'Optimum'
4. Menu > Settings > tick 'Apply settings on boot'

Battery

 Wipe your battery stats...
1. Allow the phone to discharge completely
2. Boot into recovery (hold Home and press On) plug the phone in if you don't have enough charge to get into recovery
3. Select Wipe > Wipe battery stats
4. Go back and Reboot
5. Leave the phone to do a complete charge (preferably over night)

 Adjust your radio settings...
1. Go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Update PRL (it's normal that the phone process will force close at this point and the radio will reboot)
2. Go to your dialer
3. Dial *#*#INFO#*#*
4. Click 'Phone information'
5. Scroll down to the first dropdown selection and set according to your preference below...

WCDMA preferred (default) - This will automatically switch you between G/E/3G/H depending on the best signal available by constantly monitoring all signals. This uses the most battery.
WCDMA Only - If you only want to use 3G/H (3G) and do not want to use G/E (2G) select this.
GSM auto (PRL) - This is the preferred option as it will allow you to use G/E/3G/H but uses the PRL list on your phone (provided by your carrier in the PRL update) rather than constantly monitoring all frequencies thus saving your battery. This may not work with all carriers if you have difficulty getting mobile data in some areas you will have to use one of the other options.
GSM only - If you only use G/E (2G) select this (it's the same as selecting '2G only' through the settings menu). This option uses the least battery.

Upon making your selection the radio will reboot and the setting is saved, so just back out back to the dialer and you are done.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Phone Battery Gets Hot / Why Is So - Fix It?

Oct 16, 2010

I just got a new Samsung Galaxy S phone from a local AT&T store in the US. I took the phone home the first day and spent a few hours scrolling thru the menus and getting familiar with the phone. I did a software update on the phone it has ver 2.1. I also went to a few websites to test the browser. I made about 3 calls and talked for about an hour. I had the phone turned on the entire time, I was not in standby mode.
After about 2 hours - the back of the phone where the battery is, started getting hot.

It didn't burn my hand but it was like holding a very hot cup of coffee in your hand. Very uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this problem with a battery getting hot?

Why is the battery overheating? I'm afraid to use the phone now, it might burn up something in the phone or ruin a memory card or something else.
What's causing the battery top get really hot? How do you fix this problem?
