Samsung Fascinate :: Touchwiz Homescreen Got Killed
Oct 2, 2010
I originally rooted so I could remove the verizon bloat / crap. Then I realized I couldn't get OTA updates (and I'm not the type that wants to keep manually updating the ROM on my phone). So I did the "back to stock" flash that unroots the phone and grabbed the OTA update. Since then I've been using Launcher Pro just to hide the programs I don't like. Now, somewhere in this process, the touchwiz homescreen got killed. If I kill Launcher Pro, all I'm left with is a black screen with nothing on it. No TwLauncher dock, nothing. When the phone boots up initially, I'll have that black screen, then launcher pro and my wallpaper will appear over it as well. Any ideas how this happened? And could this hurt the operation of my phone?

How do I setup my default homescreen on touchwiz? I have removed several screens but now my homescreen is all the way to the right. I feel like this is a simple answer but I checked 4 pages of threads and couldn't find anything.

I saw this on another thread. Figured it would belong here well. Anyway, If you don't like the TouchWiz that Samsung has put on, you can follow this to disable it. This is tentative until someone can try it on a Fascinate for sure, but it should work. I have the system dump and the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk is a regular app under /system/app/. I may not be labelled as TWLauncher as on the video, but something similar to it. I will update as soon as I receive mine and more people doing it.

I am getting a new phone because mine got broken in half. I am torn between the X and the Fascinate. I am leaning toward the fascinate but want to know how to get google search on touchwiz because i don't want to switch launchers. I don't like adw or launcher pro. If I have to switch launchers to get google, I'll just get the X.

What will happen if I try to freeze TouchWiz using Titanium Backup?
I want to do it to save resources, but I feel like its going to really do something bad...not sure if anyone else has tried?

So i was busy installing apps and moving them around my screen when i accidentally hit the auto-brightness toggle on one of my newly installed widgets, i went to hit it a few more times to restore my previous brightness, but my screen totally turned off. The phone is still on, if someone calls me i can hear the ring tone perfectly.
I've done some Googl'ing looking for answers but i havn't found anything useful, I have already ordered a replacement fascinate under warranty, but it would be nice to find a solution to save myself 20 bucks on a zagg invisi shield..are there any know solutions or ways to factory reset without using the screen?
The Samsung logo and Galaxy S boot-up are visible, but when it normally shows the unlock screen its completely black

ALL THANKS GOES TO rolle3K: TouchWiz30_rolle.apk ... at uploaded.to - Free File Hosting, Free Image Hosting, Free Music Hosting, Free Video Hosting, ... (I got it from bais on MoDaCo). It is an apk and it has been tested and proven to work on FroYo and clair (not sure about Cupcake/Donut). Install through adb or a file explorer. I tried it out, not too bad. Still prefer LauncherPro but I can show this off if an iPhone fanboy talks about how great iPhone UI is. Couple of notes: -To edit bottom dock, go into menu, press edit, this allows you to move icons around between dock and menu. -To edit order of homescreens or # of homescreens, go home, press menu and then edit. Couple of flaws: -Cannot set your own icons for bottom dock (you can change which apps are there but cannot use custom icons). Cannot set a default homescreen.

I'm just curious how you have the homescreen (and all the other screens) setup? I'm severely lacking in creativity, and I just noticed all of my screens are just random messes of crap that looks bad and could probably be a lot more streamlined. If anyone would be willing to post up SS of their screens.

Is there any settings or apps that will allow SF to return to the home screen when you turn on the phone again? It would be nice not to have to hit the home button each time I turn the phone back on?

I replaced Touchwiz's home with GDE off of the martet. It makes the phone truly phenomenal. Now, it doesn't officially support cupcake, but if you can buy it off of a G1 or other 1.6/higher device, you will be able to download it on a 1.5. Otherwise, do a build.prop hack. I'll release one of my own, but I contacted the developer first to see if he'd just do it officially, it'd be much cleaner and safer.

I heard that someone somewhere in china or something was using 2.1 on the moment and that it included touchwiz. I don't know if its true or not but I am interested in knowing what the actual touchwiz owners/users think of it. Do you like it? Don't you like it?

Just want to know what exactly TouchWiz is, since it seems to be the only thing that keeps me from buying this phone over the iPhone 4 at the moment. Everyone keeps saying that it slows the phone down, and each person has something different to say about the possibility of removing it and the phone running faster. Would be nice to clarify on that, since it seems like some people just got lucky with their phones, they're just used to a slower speed, or that the other people just don't know how to remove all the bloatware properly.

I've spent the last week or so retooling my launch screens with different launchers (LauncherPro Plus, Open Home, ADW) and I liked features of them all, but no one launcher had all the features I wanted and no one launcher looked completely ready for prime time. So yesterday I went back to TW, just to see what I was missing and found that I like it better than I did before. It's not on par with Sense (I had an Aria before I went to the Cap), but it's a well-executed UI with enough polish to make it look slick enough. The third party stuff was always a little janky and I had to futz with the phone to get it right. I come from a graphics background and, while I don't really dig the cartoony icons and I wish I had the option to select my own, it's a nice looking interface.

What parts of the UI are Touchwiz and which parts are pure Android? I looked at screen shots of the Android system on the Web and with the exception of some different buttons here and missing ones there, they look very similar to me.

I do not like touchwiz I simply would like to use the stock android 2.1 until 2.2 comes out does anyone know how disable this at all, plus I would like to use some apps in market which causes problems with this touchwiz 3.0. Applauncher pro runs buggy with touchwiz, and for some reason alot of the market apps are missing and does not allow me to download them like I am able to on my N1. Curse this Touchwiz 3.0 crap I want it gone please if anyone knows how I can remove or atleast disable it that would be great, I would like to run other launchers and cant seem to do this really with this Samsung crap launcher ruins everything. Seems like my N1 is just about able to download everything on market.. I shit you not like half the apps I have and like on my n1 are not able to work on my vibrant.. this is so lame and I am very upset about this their has to be a reason, My n1 still runs way faster and smooth with other launchers like app launcher pro compared to this crap touchwiz.

I haven't been lurking the forums enough to know if such a thread exists, so I'm sorry if it's a repeath, but I would like to know whether you guys like or dislike TouchWiz 3.0 on the Galaxy S phones, why, and whether it's worth it to use ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro.

My question, is it possible for me to somehow get the stock Touchwiz texting app on a Samsung S3 running CyanogenMod 10.1.3? I'm not really a fan of how the Google one is set up.

Launcherpro Plus seems to be laggy at times especially when pressing the home button while you're in a program e.g. Angry Birds. With touchwiz, this lag is completely gone, making the experience much better. With Launcherpro Plus, I'd have to wait a couple of seconds for the home screen to pop up. Is this just my phone, or is the lag a price you have to pay for an awesome launcher?

I've not used touchwiz before, but have used sense for about 30 days. i shouldn't have a problem adjusting, but there are a couple of items that stood out as bad design (so far): 1) waste of space at top of portrait view, the 7 dots to indicate screen positions. 2) the four icons at bottom of portrait view (or on right of landscape) are not customizable.

Just got a Samsung galaxy note 2, and have been making it less touchwiz like with custom launchers etc. Unfortunately I cannot root it right now, but will do in the future.
My query is about what the tab is in this screenshot, and how I might disable it, as it looks awful and gets in the way.

I tried to install a new ROM and I have killed my phone. This is what happened. I downloaded Voodoo (something) rebooted in recovery mode, and selected the file installed it and rebooted the phone. my phone turned on showing on the screen only Samsung and above it Vibrant. a voice on the phone told me "this will take 15 minutes." and that was it. the phone is now stuck on that opening screen and I can not get to download or recovery mode. It does charge if turned off and plugged in.
