Samsung EPIC 4G :: Non Root Way To Disable Touchwiz?
Jul 6, 2010I think I might like vanilla android over touchwiz : ( Any word on being able to disable touchwiz yet? I know most sense phones allow this is the only reason I'm asking.

View 7 RepliesI saw this on another thread. Figured it would belong here well. Anyway, If you don't like the TouchWiz that Samsung has put on, you can follow this to disable it. This is tentative until someone can try it on a Fascinate for sure, but it should work. I have the system dump and the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk is a regular app under /system/app/. I may not be labelled as TWLauncher as on the video, but something similar to it. I will update as soon as I receive mine and more people doing it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got a Samsung galaxy note 2, and have been making it less touchwiz like with custom launchers etc. Unfortunately I cannot root it right now, but will do in the future.
My query is about what the tab is in this screenshot, and how I might disable it, as it looks awful and gets in the way.

Launcherpro Plus seems to be laggy at times especially when pressing the home button while you're in a program e.g. Angry Birds. With touchwiz, this lag is completely gone, making the experience much better. With Launcherpro Plus, I'd have to wait a couple of seconds for the home screen to pop up. Is this just my phone, or is the lag a price you have to pay for an awesome launcher?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've not used touchwiz before, but have used sense for about 30 days. i shouldn't have a problem adjusting, but there are a couple of items that stood out as bad design (so far): 1) waste of space at top of portrait view, the 7 dots to indicate screen positions. 2) the four icons at bottom of portrait view (or on right of landscape) are not customizable.

Does anyone know if the "MR1 DG27" update that's available for the Epic fix the root exploit? I'm tempted to update but I don't want to end up with an un-rootable phone!
EDIT: Whoops, sorry should have posted in the Rooting sub-forum! Could a Mod kindly move this thread?
I successfully rooted my phone tonight. No problems there.
I successfully installed the Epic Experience v1.1.10 ROM. Everything seems to have installed properly.
All seems to be well, so I went to install Titanium Backup to restore all of my apps from my stock Epic. The installation went fine. I try to run the app for the first time, and I get the following error: "Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again".
So I know that my root included BusyBox, because I was able to install and run it on the stock ROM. But just for kicks, I clicked "Problems?" and downloaded the version it says will work. No difference.
I have rebooted the phone several times. Makes no difference.
I have deleted and re-installed Titanium Backup. Makes no difference.
I am trying to root my phone . I'm using one clikc root exploit . When I use Run the batch file it opens with a command prompt like its suppose to but then it says click any button to continue and I do . It gives me that adb is not recognized as an internal or external command .
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn the end I found it fairly easy to root my samsung epic 4g galaxy sph-d700 but the documentation was a bit tricky (because some of it was based on odin rather than heimdall, it wasn't always clear where to get ROM's, how ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) fits into the picture, etc.).
(1) Install heimdall on the computer running ubuntu (heimdall is a program that will flash ROM's to the phone) apt-get install heimdall-flash
(2) Download to the computer the latest CWM and an appropriate, i.e., pre-rooted, ROM from an archive such as that of kennyglass123. BML ROM's may be easier for beginners than are MTD ROM's. The ROM should be matched to the phone, which means both the hardware and the system it is replacing. I used cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar (ClockWorkMod Recovery; extract its contents) Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip (a ROM and system for the android phone; leave the file zipped)
(But ThePeoplesROMv2.22_BML.zip has also been recommended and there are others in circulation).
(3) Connect the android phone to the computer via USB cable; the phone should show up on the desktop as a removable disk. Transfer the ROM file (Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip) from the computer to the sd card of the phone (just as you would transfer any file, e.g., an mp3, by drag and drop or by copying from the command line from/to the appropriate directory).
(4) On the computer extract recovery.bin from the CWM tarfile tar xvf cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar (I renamed recovery.bin to cwm5_recovery.bin to remind myself what it is.)
(5) Disconnect and turn off the phone and restart the phone in Download mode by turning off the phone and turning it on while holding down the number "1" on the physical keyboard. "Download" mode starts (black screen with yellow triangle with worker digging).
(6) Connect the phone to the computer by USB cable. From the computer use heimdall to flash the CWM file to the phone as a recovery file. Flashing is not the same as file transfer: phone must be in Download mode and the heimdall program must be used to flash the file onto the phone's ROM. The command is:
heimdall flash --recovery cwm5_recovery.bin
(7) Disconnect the phone and restart phone with on/off, camera, and volume-down buttons ("three-fingered salute"). Hold all three buttons until the lighted buttons at the bottom of the phone turn on. Phone will start in "Recovery" mode with a menu of 7-10 items.
(8) Navigate the Recovery menu with the volume up/down keys and select items with the camera button. Select item "Install zip from sdcard". Navigate file menu to choose Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip (or another zipped ROM file you have selected). ROM will install.
(9) When the Recovery mode menu returns, select "Reboot phone" and the phone should boot (slowly the first time) to the new ROM and be rooted. There will be a new "Superuser" app on the phone and you should be able to install apps from the Play Store that require root privileges.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am ok with touchwiz and wonder is there a 1.6 rom including it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI replaced Touchwiz's home with GDE off of the martet. It makes the phone truly phenomenal. Now, it doesn't officially support cupcake, but if you can buy it off of a G1 or other 1.6/higher device, you will be able to download it on a 1.5. Otherwise, do a build.prop hack. I'll release one of my own, but I contacted the developer first to see if he'd just do it officially, it'd be much cleaner and safer.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI heard that someone somewhere in china or something was using 2.1 on the moment and that it included touchwiz. I don't know if its true or not but I am interested in knowing what the actual touchwiz owners/users think of it. Do you like it? Don't you like it?
View 17 Replies View RelatedJust want to know what exactly TouchWiz is, since it seems to be the only thing that keeps me from buying this phone over the iPhone 4 at the moment. Everyone keeps saying that it slows the phone down, and each person has something different to say about the possibility of removing it and the phone running faster. Would be nice to clarify on that, since it seems like some people just got lucky with their phones, they're just used to a slower speed, or that the other people just don't know how to remove all the bloatware properly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last week or so retooling my launch screens with different launchers (LauncherPro Plus, Open Home, ADW) and I liked features of them all, but no one launcher had all the features I wanted and no one launcher looked completely ready for prime time. So yesterday I went back to TW, just to see what I was missing and found that I like it better than I did before. It's not on par with Sense (I had an Aria before I went to the Cap), but it's a well-executed UI with enough polish to make it look slick enough. The third party stuff was always a little janky and I had to futz with the phone to get it right. I come from a graphics background and, while I don't really dig the cartoony icons and I wish I had the option to select my own, it's a nice looking interface.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat parts of the UI are Touchwiz and which parts are pure Android? I looked at screen shots of the Android system on the Web and with the exception of some different buttons here and missing ones there, they look very similar to me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI do not like touchwiz I simply would like to use the stock android 2.1 until 2.2 comes out does anyone know how disable this at all, plus I would like to use some apps in market which causes problems with this touchwiz 3.0. Applauncher pro runs buggy with touchwiz, and for some reason alot of the market apps are missing and does not allow me to download them like I am able to on my N1. Curse this Touchwiz 3.0 crap I want it gone please if anyone knows how I can remove or atleast disable it that would be great, I would like to run other launchers and cant seem to do this really with this Samsung crap launcher ruins everything. Seems like my N1 is just about able to download everything on market.. I shit you not like half the apps I have and like on my n1 are not able to work on my vibrant.. this is so lame and I am very upset about this their has to be a reason, My n1 still runs way faster and smooth with other launchers like app launcher pro compared to this crap touchwiz.
